Hello everyone, my car(Toyota Camry 2005 v6) radiator started leaking recently. I took it for repair but it didn't solve it, I was told to get a double cell radiator since the one currently there is a single cell.. What do you guys think?

Your car didn't come with "double cell" radiator . it came with the original radiator ..

Why in God's name u want to put something that was not from the manufacture is beyond my comprehensive thinking..

Kindly buy a tokunbo radiator and use original coolant. And you should fine. Don't let mechanics tell you that u need double cell radiator because of our weather bullshit .... You have USA states like Las Vegas Texas, Arizona , Florida that have same weather conditions as Nigeria.....

Are u now telling me that car manufacture makes cars for hot regions and ones for cold region... Smh

Below is a 2010 camry radiator I bought for customer . He was facing similar issues like u

Prediluted 50/50 coolant. This is already mix with water from the manufacture. This is ready to use right away. I recommend this alot to my customers....

Concentrated Coolant..... You will need to mix it with water yourself. You have to use distill water. Who has the time to be looking for distill water.. And u have to make sure u get it right... Personally I don't have that time, I just want to buy coolant and put it into the radiator . I don't want to be worrying if I got the right mix or not

A used radiator is a used radiator. Radiators do not last forever, they become old and the plastic covering becomes brittle and it cracks then breaks.

If you want to give advise on this thread , do not use Tokumbor parts gotten from the junkyard .

A brand new radiator (China double cell) will outlive what you have there.

1. The car didn't come with double cell radiator .. So why would you replace with double cell ....

2. The Tokunbo parts I get for my clients are from ebay. These parts are guarantee for 6months to 1 year. So these parts are tested before been sold

Most junkyards you walk into to get parts will not give u any guarantee and in most cases will tell to you to take the parts from the car yourself.

3. Brand new radiator is not a problem. If a client wants a new radiator I can get it for them . And I make sure it is OEM ...... So cost comes down to what the client can afford....

Me and you are aware most Nigerians don't follow owners manual. And most Nigerian car owners use water instead of coolant. And the ones that are using coolant, most likely are using colored water which is fake ......... We know that using water will damage your radiator , it might not be right away but in the long run it will get damage........

From personal experience.. I have never replace any radiator from my personal cars before. My 2005 Nissan that I used . I bought it brand new back than. Till the day I get rid of the car I never replace the radiator . The only thing I did was a radiator flush which cost me about $100.00 . And I drove that car for 10 yrs without replacing a radiator.......

The cars I use for uber , I can't really recall anytime I change radiator . And if I did it was due to so much dust clogged in the radiator . And you know have been doing uber business for 8yrs .....

Conclusion.. We should try to encourage car owners to always follow owners manual at all times........

Ps. We should dismiss the idea that the use of double cell radiator is due to our hot weather. That is a illiterate notion. States like Florida, Texas , Arizona, Nevada etc to name a few. All have same weather conditions like Nigeria or even hotter. Are u now telling me they make cars for hot regions and cold regions separately?

Double or single radiators do not affect the operating temp of the engine. (Read to gain knowledge)

Most junkyards you walk into to get parts will not give u any guarantee and in most cases will tell to you to take the parts from the car yourself.

eBay is an online junkyard. (You don't need to read, its common sense.

This is what you should sell.

EBay online junkyard grin ....... Parts dealers that gives 6months to 1 year warranty on a part . you call that junk. There is junkyard near my house , very big and well known. I only buy car batteries from them all their parts have no warranty........ This is why I buy from ebay.........

When an ebay seller guarantees you 6moths to 1 year warranty on a part. Trust me the parts has gone through some testing before been sold........

My car didn't come with a double cell radiator. Why would I replace with double cell ? My car came with an automatic ac compressor, and why would I replace it with a manual ? Why do we make things so difficult for ourselves.........

If you need cars that are made for our road and weather . why don't you and Nigerians patronize home grown auto makers like Innoson Motors. These cars cheaper and are made for Nigerians by a Nigerian. This will help to give the Naira more value and protect our foreign reserve

Wow... Now I am more concerned. I was initially worried about the double cell matter, worried that it may have an impact on the car system, hence why I sort advice from my Ogas @Dru23 @GAZZUZZ and other Chairmen in the house
At this point I am kinda speechless. So Tokunbor or New double Cell?

Where do used parts on eBay come from?

The guarantee given is from manufacturer of part or seller?

If from seller who transfered the guarantee he is giving to him?

Good ... Hopefully we can an objective discussion..

This huge parts sellers on eBay. They run are multi million dollar business. Meaning that they have the resources to take cars apart and test them....

So each time they pieces cars apart . they will ran a check to make sure parts are still good .. Now if the parts are not good , they will fix them before selling them .....

It will be counter productive for them to sell u parts that will not work and than you u end up returning it to them. Keep in mind some of these guys pay shipping cost themselves to get the parts to you. And others do free shipping....

Most times the parts I do buy are already cleaned out and oil or grease is removed.. For them to guarantee u 6months to 1 year it means that the parts are in good working condition......

Now unlike our brothers that brings car parts from different parts of the world. Will not have the time or the facility to make sure whatever parts they are loading into a container is actually good .. This is why when u buy parts in ladipo or elsewhere u are given 1 week or just few days warranty..

Bottom line here . eBay parts dealers are giving the seller a warranty that the parts been sold to you is in good working order.....

Below for example the 2010 Camry u see pic . is in good working condition . there are no cracks or holes. The only thing is that it is dusty from sitting too long... and also it was neatly packaged and protected to avoid any damage during shipping....

Bros, listen and listen carefully.
Double cell oo, single cell oo, e no matter.
Double cell improves cooling die to increased surface area.
It's better. It does no harm to your car as long as your thermostat is present and your fans are working in the factory state.
Radiators have plastic parts which go brittle with age and repeated heating and cooling cycles. It is not advisable to buy used radiators unless you are in a bind either due to location, availability or financially. If you can afford a new radiator (wether single or double cell is irrelevant), can find it and timeframe for delivery allows, then by all means get a new radiator. It's even a maintenance item on some cars (Acura MDX at least).

Oga GAZZUZZ i serviced my injector mouth but noticed the car idles high especially when D is engaged this makes the vehicle move faster than normal. I bought a new injector mouth yet problem persist. The car had always pulled a P1659 ECTS relay malfunction off even before and after the servicing of the injector mouth. All efforts to rectify that code has proven abortive. Your kind advice on what you feel would be appreciated.

|What is P1659 HONDA code meaning?

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the throttle valve opening. The system includes the throttle actuator, the throttle valve, Throttle Position (TP) sensors A and B, the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor, the Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) control relay, and the PCM. The APP sensor is operated via the throttle cable to determine the accelerator opening value when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal opening value is converted to a signal in the APP sensor and transmitted to the PCM to compute the target position. The PCM determines the throttle valve target position according to the signal received and operates the throttle actuator to move the throttle valve to the target position. The actual throttle valve position is determined by TP sensor A (installed in the throttle body). When the voltage is applied from the ETCS control relay to the IG1ETCS terminal for a set time after the ETCS control relay is turned off, the PCM detects a malfunction in the ETCS control relay power switch and a DTC is stored.

|P1659 HONDA code possible causes

Faulty Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) Relay
Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) Relay harness is open or shorted
Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) Relay circuit poor electrical connection
Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

|How is the P1659 HONDA code repair?

Start by checking the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins.

For P2185 code explanation please click this link

Always follow owners manual at all times.. You don't known better than the manufacture.

Owners manual did not say you can't install double cell. Do you even know double cell means?
There are instances where you can retrofit even better items in your car instead of what the car came with.
E.g.
1. On the mdx, if you want to tow in hot weather, you are better off installed a separate transmission cooler instead of relying on the radiator to cool the trans fluid for you.
2. There are instances where obeying the 5w20 and MID oil change recommendations have backfired and owners have come to realise that 5w30 and shorter drain intervals was the key to staving off the oil burn issue on the 2010 to 2012 mdx. Going against manufacturer recommendation of 5w20 and MID 7500 mile OCI saved them.
3. Low profile tyres fitted on new cars look nice and of course handle well but if you traverse rough terrain and don't track your car, you are better off with higher profile tyres with longer side walls. Your car won't flip over while doing legal speed limits. Speedo error is negligible (don't bring that up by the way).
4. A radiator (whether single or double cell) is a heat transfer device. It is as simple as that. It is not going to increase the workload of the water pump. It is not going to affect the volume water that the engine block can hold. Rather, a double cell radiator may ultimately even be a life saver by accommodating more water (handy if you have an overheating car), provide more volume to absorb the heat from the engine, reduce the run time of your fans since it will be more efficient that a single cell, pits less strain on your cooling fans (less on time), produces less strain on your electrical system (battery, alternator relays etc).
Come to think of it, it may even be better than the single cell.

Manufacturers cut a lot of cost and if a single cell can do it why would they install a more expensive double cell? They are all looking at the bottom line remember?

For radiators, new over old.

My dear brother again. You don't know better than the manufacture.....

People should use what comes from the car manufacture and not compromise anything .. Don't mix and match anything from the car .......... You are not smarter than the engineers........

Each year car manufacture improves their car .. Any errors that comes from a cars first generations is usually corrected in the next generation .. So if single cell radiator was an issue on first generations cars , the manufacture would have corrected it in the next generation to double cell .. Those adjustments would have been made ....

Please and please don't say na Nigerian weather dey cause am .. That the White man does not know what he is doing etc ..........

Below is my client car that I supply engine oil and other parts to.. This Benz is a beauty, can u imagine someone tampering with it . changing the radiator to double cell . changing the a/c compressor from Automatic to manual ? This car is a beauty why would anyone want to just tamper with the car by changing parts that don't belong ..........

I am car enthusiast and I just want cars to be the way it is intended to be

This will be my last response to you.
1. Sell your oil. This is not about who uses your oil. I couldn't care less.
2. Stop disguising tokunbo radiator as better than new. It is not. Never will be.
3. People often improve on what manufacturers installed on their cars from lighting, sound system, sound proofing, rust proofing, swapping cloth for leather, engine performance upgrades, brake system upgrades (bigger brake discs, ceramic pads, drilled and slotted rotors, single piston calipers to double or even three piston calipers, stainless steel braided brake lines), transmission fluid upgrades, exhaust upgrades (free flow catalytic converter exhausts, better performing j pipes), lighter wheels and tyres of same dimension etc. The list is endless. Yes. And the cars last and perform even better.
4. You do not know what single cell or double cell means. This renders any of your submissions on this topic meh.
5. I have tried to educate you, it is not my fault you didn't learn. I do it for posterity sake and other people who may be mislead by you.
6. Do not close your mind to new knowledge. It will help you.

What qualifications do you have to educate me ? Are an engineer? What car manufacture have u worked for? What is ur educational background? And what is ur experience with foreign cars.... And u want to educate me ....lol ........... Go and sit down my brother....

demolagilbert:
recommended engine oil spec include 5w20 or 5w30. Recommended atf is Hyundai/Kia Sp-iii, and lucky for you, I have limited qty of the ATF available at this time @ 7k per 1l bottle. You may check my profile for details.

Easiest tell tale sign of thermostat delete or bypass is that the radiator fan is constantly on when engine is running. Cost of replacement of those parts listed, I no know DAT one. Lol
Thanks bro.
Sorry the reply is coming late.
Actually opted for Honda Cuty 07.
