only a town? There are several places called Oru.. Oru/Olu/Orlu are Igbos who live near the rivers. They have their water dieties and great at navigating waters.
There are 3 Orlu/Oru based LGAs in Imo state alone. Oguta people are also Oru.

You see that Oru you talk about are priests who brought the oracles of Oru to the rest of Ijaws.
bro stop confusing yourself ORLU and ORU are different.
your photographed material only talked about some Nembeians who went to enquire something from Aro.
now let's end this madness for the last time.
FIRSTLY! ORU is not a deity but a word WHICH MEANS JUJU
SECONDLY! ORU IS NOT A NAME OF A PLACE, LOCATION OR ENTITY IN NEMBE.

I want to ask you, what is the meaning of your so called oru or olu or oguta whatever... does it mean the same thing?
NO!

First, Igbo refers to other riverine Igbos are Mba Mmiri... Mba Mmiri is not an ethnicity but refers to a geographical feature and people living there. Mba Mmiri translates to "Riverine areas" or River people or people living around water. Both Igbos, Hausa or anyone living by the water is called, "Mba Mmiri".

Which of the Google? How did Ijaw become 10% of 200 million? Where did all the Ijaws go to? Are you counting spirits?
You have 4 LGAs in Bayelsa and 2¼ in Delta state. Bayelsa your home town is the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of population. So, small with only 8 LGAs and only 4 of them are Ijaws. and in the last census, Bayelsa is 1.7 million. if Ijaws are 900k minus the other minorities, where are the rest of the 19 million?

Ijaws are not more than 2.5 million and I am being generous.

So, Ijaws are more than Ibibios that have up to 15 LGAs to themselves alone? or Kanuri that owns Bornu and Tiv that are majority in Benue and with a very large population in Taraba, Niger and Nassarawa?

Boss, check am now.
you just showed us you are un informed.
bayelsa is the principal ijaw state, doesn't mean ijaw begins and ends in bayelsa. there are ijaws in rivers, delta, edo, akwa ibom, ondo.
the very least source place is at a population of about 10 million, majority places us at 14 while a source places us at 18.

there are also ijaws in Sierra Leone and Gabon who are migrant fishermen.

Two Weeks After It Blew, an Oil Well in Nigeria Is Still Spewing

An oil and gas well in southern Nigeria is still spewing its contents at least 14 days after it first blew, causing growing anxiety among the local communities that rely on the surrounding land and waterways.

The world’s oil and gas markets have been all but unaffected by the incident because the well in question had been capped and wasn’t producing. But community leaders are increasingly worried about its impact on people’s livelihoods.

A not-much-reported, 2-week-old oil spill in Nigeria reminds us of what is an ongoing problem in the country. The footage, shot earlier this week, was sent to us by a local community leader. It's still leaking.

Aiteo acquired the license from a consortium of oil majors headed by Royal Dutch Shell Plc in 2015. The sale price of $2.4 billion for the permit and a pipeline is the largest paid so far by Nigerian companies acquiring assets from their international counterparts. Spills, particularly from pipelines, are common in Africa’s largest oil producer.

Experts are now ready to start the work of sealing the well so that the cause and scale of the leak can be determined, Idris Musa, director general of Nigeria’s National Oil Spill Detection and Reponse Agency, said by text message. A spokesman for Aiteo declined to

there is no Igbo speaking settlement or clan that is Igbo.
there is no chieftaincy war canoe-house that is Igbo.

your friend is deluded, even if she was decended from a captured slave, the Nembeians weren't careless like the opobo people...the Igbo slaves were quickly absorbed into Nembe and their children spoke the Nembe language. the Nembe culture and tradition was very strong. once a chief or a rich person buys an Igbo slave or from any other tribe, he or she will answer the name and will be inducted into the war canoe house and even renamed.
you didn't hear your friend well.
ask her well.
i can even drop my contact or mail address to hear from this your friend in person!

There was Igbo slaves but your judiciary and governmental area in the former time was the Aro god.

If I said, oh Nembe is Ijaw and this girl said so. You'll be like, yes...but there are proofs online of people going there and interacting with the people, there's even one on YouTube were we could hear them clearly speaking Igbo, you have a search engine research it yourself and check out facts.

Rather than filling hurt, because you want Bayelsa state only for you, so any other major tribe that you see there, you try to topple them down. Isn't that witchcraft.

Keep on speaking for the Nembe people, before you people said Opobo wasn't Igbo, now there's proof becuase someone had to go to the land and bring you proof, you guys are quiet.

Why don't you head to the Nembe streets, show us the street name and all as proof, go around the area and hear them talk, or go to the chiefs in the land, and let's have our evidence too, rather than you exchanging batter here that holds nothing.

So, I want to understand your logic. Opobo speaks Igbo as their mother tongue, we converse with Opobo in our native Igbo tongue and do everything together but they are not Igbo but you want us to agree that Nembe is not Igbo because of Language?

Nembe is Igbo territory. Thank you.

Ijaw is not in the top 5 biggest ethnic group.

Fulani, Tiv, Kanuri, Urhobo are larger than Ijaw.

Thank you!
Ijaw is not up to 300,000 people and they are making noise up and down...they even claim kalabar people is Ijaw. Kalabar people is even more populated than Ijaw. Even urobo people is more than Ijaw in population but Urobo people doesn't make noise and cause trouble like this. No tribe would be forced to join Biafra, but referendum would decide. Even Ijaw should be seen as been under Igbo.

Is not your town, biko...stop lying. I can say I'm from Nembe too. Mtcheww. That's by the way. First of all, as you said the Igbos held much respect by you people that's why you went to their God for unadulterated verdict.

Secondly, I've seen a video of Nembe youths, youths, not elders speaking Igbo in one of their many festivals. So, that means all the community in Nembe are Slaves. That's an insult to all Nembe people and Igbos too..for how dare you call the brethren slaves. Igbos can never be a slave to anyone.
Can't you see what they did in the iGbo landing, it's now common Ijaw they'll bow too.

You people may have told them or pleaded with them to join your culture. But you can be so humble to accept.

Rather than talking here, please go to Nembe make a video of the elders, the market Square, where there are lots of people talking the language. Ask the village chiefs, I mean old men and women about the Nembe culture and tag me please, let me keep quiet.

I'm saying this because on YouTube, there's been proof given, if in Nairaland here with videos, I've forgotten the thread.

So, do that as your research, and you can keep me shut forever.

Don't be deluded, Epie is descended from ijo.
just as nsukka is of ERI
they do not speak the same language, but it is what it is.
it is normal for people to claim being autonomous or authoctonous but ijo has 51 clans/tribes under it. because of the pride of the average ijaw man some tribes are trying to cut ties with him, even some of my fellow Nembeians claim they are NEMBEIANS and not ijaw, but I'll always ask, are you not still of your father even though you're grown and independent?
I am a Nembe man and I am telling you Nembe is a clan under ijaw, same as Epie, tuomo, buseni, tarakiri, agudama, akassa and the entire 51 tribes.
the language may not be exactly ijaw (ofcourse it isn't expected) as sub tribes usually have their corrupted lingua.

NSUKKA and arondiziogu are descendants of ERI but do they speak the same ERI language?
dude I didn't mention IYC. I am not a political person.
visit Nigerian archive, and you will see that the ijaws are the 4th largest ethnic group.

you talk about the Igbo landing, so it is the plantation in the landing was the only place igbos were sold?
the ijaws were very powerful and because of how reselient we were, we controlled the trading routes. stop being daft, we sold you people for mirror, Dane guns and rum, even umbrellas and fine fabrics.
we were the brokers between the Europeans, the Igbo pride can be measured in the fist of the ijaws, go and read your history properly. ok how did you get to the spot of the Igbo landing?
the ijaws put you in the white men ships and sent you there Madam... go and read up your history. the ijaws are the only people who had Cannons, do you know how expensive canons were?
I even saw my great great great grandpa's Canon when I visited my hometown last year. he got a Canon by exchanging Igbo slaves to the white men, and most war canoe houses had canons.
stop saying trash. we were the wealthiest in those days and we made those wealth by trading igbos and sending them to go and cultivate sugar Cain plantations in the Americas stop talking what you don't know madam, I will School you. you don't know history...I don't blame you because Nigeria do not teach history

ikwerre is never Nembe.
ikwerre is a tribe on its own Mr Man. and Nembe do not speak ikwerre or opobo. stop spreading fake informations.
try and be learned, I won't be hard on you because you're ignorant. there are over 360 ethnic groups in Nigeria, (hausa , Igbo, Yoruba, ijaw, ibibio) are the top 5
now in each of this ethnic groups are tribes.
for instance in your Igbo, they have nsuka tribe or language, they have mbanno, arochukwu, etc, distinct languages and tribes but under the Igbo ETHNIC GROUP.

In the IJAW ETHNIC GROUP, we have (Nembe, ibani, okrika, kalabari, gbaran, opobo, etc) all are tribes and different language under the IJAW ETHNIC GROUP.
same goes for the HAUSA AND YORUBA.

Ikwerre isn't any where associated with the Ijaw ethnicity or Nembe.
go and read up and stop spreading fake knowledge.
There's an error you made there. Nsuka, Mbanọ and Arọchukwu aren't languages, they're all DIALECTS. I'm from Imo state but if an Nsuka man speaks Igbo I'll understand everything he says.

In your case in the so-called South South, there are many different tribes there and some of the tribes speak Igbo. Port Harcourt was Originally Igwe Ọcha before the white man changed its name. Some towns inside port Harcourt bear Igbo names before it was changed by Ken Saro Wiwa and his people during the civil war. I saw a street signpost from Agip that bore Umuobiakani but that town is currently called Umuobiakani, umuola is now rumuola, nwike is now Wike. I have friends who bear typical Igbo names from Rivers State. It's kinda weird when I hear some people from Rivers State say they're not Igbo. Your name is Chima Nwauzo but you're not Igbo? Weird

Igbo hatred for Ijaw will never allow Igbo to achieve their plans. This one too much ooo!

and there is no other ethnic group in bayelsa except the ijaws.
kolokuma, Epie etc ARE CLANS OR TRIBES under the ijaws.
infact there are 51 clans or tribes which are descendants of ijo and they are stretched across bayelsa, rivers, akwa ibom, ondo, delta, edo.

there are also ijaws in Sierra Leone and Gabon who are migrant fishermen.

That's not how it works, language doesn't matter. If you claim Kalabari is Ijoh and claim Ogbia (that doesn't speak Ijaw as Ijaw). Nembe is also Igbo

Igboid, Bkayy make we claim our lost people and territories.

If an Ogbia man that speaks mmoghu can be Ijaw, why can't a Nembe be Igbo?

Nembe people sailed from Ndi Olu or Oru or Orlu people to Nembe. They were merchants and we remember them in this difficult times.

Thank you!

Yes o!
We must hold unto our people in Nembe.

Nembe people speak Igbo dialects like Ikwere, Ubani and Opobo people in Rivers State.

Lol...I served in Bayelsa and did this 2 days INEC work in Nembe...they do not speak anything like ibo. I do not know where you got this your information but you are totally wrong.

madam I am a Nembe man, I would have mentioned my war canoe house and my chieftaincy house, but for privacy sake.
even I can speak Igbo so that isn't an excuse. most of my cousins like me schooled in the East and can speak Igbo so does that make me an Igbo man?
you talk about the Igbo landing, so it is the plantation in the landing was the only place igbos were sold?
the ijaws were very powerful and because of how reselient we were, we controlled the trading routes. stop being daft, we sold you people for mirror, Dane guns and rum, even umbrellas and fine fabrics.
we were the brokers between the Europeans, the Igbo pride can be measured in the fist of the ijaws, go and read your history properly. ok how did you get to the spot of the Igbo landing?
the ijaws put you in the white men ships and sent you there Madam... go and read up your history. the ijaws are the only people who had Cannons, do you know how expensive canons were?
I even saw my great great great grandpa's Canon when I visited my hometown last year. he got a Canon by exchanging Igbo slaves to the white men, and most war canoe houses had canons.
stop saying trash. we were the wealthiest in those days and we made those wealth by trading igbos and sending them to go and cultivate sugar Cain plantations in the Americas stop talking what you don't know madam, I will School you. you don't know history...I don't blame you because Nigeria do not teach history
Bro, the people who had power to sell slaves in Igbo land were the Aros, the fellow Igbos.. there are accounts where Ijaws were decimated and they had to bear gifts to appease the Igbos... You guys came to Arochukwu in Igbo land to collect JuJu for protection and the protection of your family.
Many of you were taken as slaves. I will dig 1000s of written evidence before you. The reason why much is not said about you regarding the slave trade is because your population was insignificant. The census estimated that you guys were not more than 50,000-100000 in total. That is very insignificant.

you guys were minorities.

Me too, I am a Nembe man.

Thank you.
