Thank you for the reply.

His Interview was in Lagos and we are trying to change the sponsorship to himself

Can this also be a red flag because we are going to be moving the money into his account anytime soon.

Also is it okay for his duration of stay to tally with mine as in thesame duration of stay for my PhD even though we mentioned in the form that he would be coming at Intervals and summer breaks to monitor his business.

VISA DENIED - Abuja 9am 02 Aug 2021

Gurus in the house, I really need your advice and help here.

Course of Study: MBA
School: Suffolk University
Fee: 71k
Funding: 23k Fellowship
Balance: 40kplus
First Resumption / Class Start Date: Sept 07
Next Resumption/ Jan 18 2022

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning Sir
VO: Fine thank you. Is this your first time of applying for a US VISA?
Me: Yes
VO: What is your program of study?
ME: Master of Business Administration. It's a dual concentration with specialization in general mgt and business analytics
VO: Have you ever travelled out of the country before?
Me: Yes, I went to South Africa in 2014.
VO: What was the purpose of your visit. Vacation?
Me: No, It was an official trip. I was recognized by my former company (Bleep bank) for mitigating fraud and went for an award and recognition ceremony
VO: Fraud, Nice - So what is your current role where you presently work?
ME: I am the Head of Customer Experience
VO: Nice: Customer Experience. So who is sponsoring your education?
Me: My Father
VO: What does he do?
ME: He is a real estate investor. Also, work as a contractor on the ongoing Dangote refinery project and owns properties currently on rental income from banks.
VO: So, what city is Suffolk University?
ME: Boston in boston massachusetts.
VO: What year did you say to travelled out of the country again? He was typing fast and guess looking at my form
ME: In the year 2014.
V0: Brought out the green form. I was really surprised because the interview was quite smooth.

Observations:

On my DS 160, where it was asked if i had travelled before in the last 5years, I said No. During the interview, the VO asked if i have travelled before - He did not mention 5yrs, so i said YES. This question was repeated twice and my response what yes. Travelled to SA and the rest of the story. I think maybe he felt i was lying. Could this be the reason?

I have re-applied and next interview is 08 Dec 2021.

On the D-160, I still maintained "NO" as my response and stated that the VO did not clearly explain the reasons for my first rejection.

What would you suggest I do differently next week to boost my chances. I am praying to God for a divine encounter. Please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

My Background:
Age - 36yrs
work experience : 10yrs
Current role: Head, Customer experience
Marital status: Married
Bsc: Business Admin
Grad: 2.1
year of grad: 2009

Two things I can point out here is your age and your sponsorship .

You are married and have a family, obviously it means you can stand on your own and take care of yourself.

Would suggest you should add yourself to the sponsorship ( you and your dad).

About the travel history, I think you should have filled in “Yes” on your form. ( I stand to be corrected).

Note : They rarely believe in mistakes, so always follow what you fill. Let your A be A and Let your B be B.

Short story.

When I got to the POE in 2017, the officer asked me if I know anyone in United States, I said No, He asked me again, then immediately I remembered I filled in one of my distant uncle’s info in my form which I totally forgot innocently. Then I said yes . Guess what , I was taken to the second screening where they drilled me so bad before I was released.

So always let your response match what you fill.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I will be going alone. Someone said, stating your family will be going with you could present an intent to relocate.

Gokoyer0:
Things might had come out different for you had it been that you were self sponsoring yourself, i think. Pls remember you are married and 36 yrs old also. I don't know may be i make any sense. Btw, are you going to US alone or with your family?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by larkson(m): 7:27am On Nov 30, 2021
This is quite revealing. Thanks for sharing. I may have to fill out another DS 160 to reflect the co-sponsorship.

Thanks alot for your feedback. Please, is there a chance you can be of help in reviewing my potential script? I will be emailing you.

I plan to fill a fresh DS 160 form to reflect your comments.

The reason for refusal was not your travel experience. I think the VO was looking at your profile...years in the job, and why you are just going for the Master's. I know the angle I am looking at your case may look weird to you, but as "Head" of that position, 10 years in the job, you are mostly at the steep of your career--in that position. Why now? MBA is a degree people get to get to that steep you are currently occupying.

Secondly, you are 36 and your Dad is the sponsor. As "Head" in your current position, the VO probably thought you should have your own money too. That is why I always tell applicants from here that if you have personal funds and you have a sponsor at the same time, state who is sponsoring you and ship in: " I have also saved about $10, 000 over the years and I will use this toward my living expenses."

I was not at the interview with you, but I am not convinced you utilize the time you had to give detailed answer to the VO questions. I would be expecting more answers to his questions. You can reapply, but craft strong answers to the potential questions you'd be asked.

All the best!

MS.c Accounting. Non thesis course.

Do I really need to write a prof in the department to get scholarship? I have gotten one admission with little funding though, I’m still thinking of applying to better schools and aiming for better tuition waiver or scholarship but I don’t know how to go about it.

Almost no school will fund a non-thesis MSc, whether in the form of GTA or GRA. But you can get a certain percentage off of tuition and maybe a GA position when you land. All the best.

My 2cents below.

F Class of VISA is not meant to be treated/used as a visiting VISA. So I don't know how a VO will take it when he/she is told that an F visa holder will be travelling to/from his home country and the US periodically to oversee his business.

You can have someone in-charge who will be required to report daily/weekly to your husband on the health/status of his business. You can present this in a different way.

I might be wrong though.

This is very True.

You won’t see total funding. I was lucky to get partial funding and GA. Even the GA money small die, but irrespective, we go run am.

If you are looking for funding, go for a Thesis based course and not necessarily a project based course.

Good luck to us all having our Interview 2mao. Na so so good news e go be ooo by Gods grace.

Please I need an answer from any good Samaritan. I know other procedures, from I-20 to DS-160, I have been following this thread for so long and i've gained alot, thanks to those that give their time to answer questions, God will bless you all.
However, what battles me is that when I want to apply to any university, for undergraduate studies, the always require High school cumulative GPA, even for international students, I heard some used WAEC and used WES for the calculation or somehow. My WAEC isn't so good, and my NECO is filled with Bs and Cs. So, my question is, is there any university that'll give me admission if I do ACT/SAT only or language proficiency test only without high school cumulative GPA?
Please anyone that can explain, God shall bless the person
Hi, you can try University of Wisconsin Parkside. You can get admitted with just your WAEC certificate and IELTS result.
But abeg, if you can write SAT/ACT write am pls, you'd be able to apply to more schools with better scholarships.

Hi Fairheart, Thank you for all your immense contributions on this platform. I have a question. I received a full tuition waiver, however, I still need to show POF for living expenses. I have a statement that covers this. However, everyone keeps saying personal funds is a red flag. Kindly advise as the school would issue my I20 tomorrow. Thank you.

This your transcript is you want to use 3 persons time at the embassy? They wouldn’t have time to ask you all that . The interview don’t last more than 1 minute.
Meanwhile, prepare with your transcript in case

One of the consular at the Lagos consulate when she was talking at a zoom meeting organised by EducationUSA Lagos said there was no special dress code for interviews that you can wear anything you're comfortable in.
She even went on and said some ladies wear heels which she feels its not necessary and also inconvenient.
#my opinion wear something decent and comfortable.
