48 hours? undecided

Forget it.
He could at least start and see where he will get to before writing it off, i don't support him giving up on the task. You can't learn if you keep drop task. This a very competitive environment if yoy can stand out whats the reason of going into tech.

I've been learning frontend web development for a while now and after getting to a stage I react I decided to test the waters as regards to available jobs. I've been spamming LinkedIn and Indeed with applications though I apply for mostly Internship or Entry level positions.

Its been over two weeks I've been sending applications and only one Lebanese company has contacted me for an assessment and I've applied for over 200 jobs within that period.

The issue now is that the Lebanese company gave me a mini full stack project to complete within 48 hours though the time can be extended on request. Now I'm just a rookie frontend developer with no experience at all with back end, the frontend of the project has to be done with react which I can handle but I'm stuck at the back end.

I downloaded tones of tutorials on node js pertaining the project but I can't just wrap my head around it within such limited time frame. I have a little below 24 hours before the deadline and I've made little or no head way.

Even if I manage to get the project done won't I be biting more than I can chew knowing it's a full stack position? Or should I find a way around the project and learn on the job?. I wouldn't want my desperation for a job to put me into trouble.
Should I let this one slide and wait for opportunities that suit my current skill set while I further develop my skills? I haven't slept for the past 24 hours due to this project and I'm stressed out already.

Please my bosses I need your input on this matter.

Modified: I've been able to create a react app that displays the CSV file table on the frontend but I'm just overwhelmed with the back end

Oyinbo says "Opportunity meets preparation".

In your case, you are busy applying for jobs looking for opportunity and forgetting that without preparation, success isn't guaranteed.

Just let it slide, more opportunities will come in the future but NOW it's time to develop yourself. It's time for PREPARATION. Don't let the next opportunity meets you unprepare

If you're going to be touching anything related to a database then PHP is a must. As an aspiring web developer you must become proficient in the following: HTML, CSS and PHP. If you actually want to be marketable then JavaScript is a must learn.

When learning database, I didn't start with PHP, rather with MySQL and I did C# for coding. I never liked PHP then and now.

@op ask if you could use JAMstack approach... that's working with Headless cms... you could use any of them out there, personally I love Sanity.io and strapi.

With these approach I think you can do this... writing DB schemas isn't that difficult if you understand it.

After which you can easily consume the Endpoints using REST or GraphQL... why I'd always go with GraphQL is, it already have a simple approach to all you just mentioned.
Filtering, Sorting, and the likes...
Generally, what you should do for every job invite is to actually do what you were sent even though you aren't going to work with them or finish the project in their own time. It increases your understanding of what to expect in the future.

I remember trying to solve the problem I received from a Polish company, I kuku jam more problems, and beautiful solutions to accelerate the tasks. Today when a person talks about DB and their schema, I know what to do.
That's how I got to learn something like FaunaDB, then I come jam another solution like Hasura and a few others including Sanity.io GROQ. To keep it simple, you can use Postgres via hasura or kukuma go with mongodb

Just give it try if you aren't doing anything for now... comot mind for the work work do you thing. You'd see how you'll automatically start using all these right of the box.

https://www.daniel-dozie.dev/

This is my portfolio website that I'm working on.
All the texts and images are all on sanity. So basically I had to consume the data from the Endpoints using groq or graphql...

Built it right off my head without any design inspiration... using React/Nextjs with typescript, and Tailwind UI... now I comfortably use most UI frameworks. I'm working on another personal project using the same stack but this time with Chakra UI... In 24hours, I already know how to work with chakra...

the idea is to keep improving. No knowledge is a waste.

This is a portfolio damn. I hope you have started applying to jobs already. This is what I tell people all the time. Have been saying this for months on end.

But the questions is...

Are we going to be covering your ass everyday when you giving a task to complete...

Like you said ..after learning digital skills...all you need is a physical intern job to learn some meaningful experience that will help u stand alone ... Try and ignore this job or give it to someone else if possible...find an intern job and learn for few months
Goodluck

OP please this is a real legit advise, please get internships first, it will help.

It is not easy to get a job. From the responses you have gotten so far, you know what to expect.

Entry jobs arent without experience on linkedin. In fact middle experience is like 3 years experience on the job. So entry is someone who is grounded.

You may want to consider going for internship. Some are without pay while some are with. With this, you can gain experience.

Actually getting jobs take time. You need a lot of experience. I laugh the way those guys pit it as if it's easy to just learn web development and get job. Lol. It is not that easy. The competition is really high there. From my investigation, some of those guys srent working but pretending they have online jobs. Lols.

I am.happy you brought this out here. Imagine competing with Indians and middle east guys in web development. Lol. In fact, Europe and Middle East are where the opportunities can come from cos to get from Asia is slim. Lol.

Well, reflect on everything. You may have to get an intern job ....even with intern, you need experience to get it. Web development is highly competitive. This is the truth which they wont tell you, but it is doable. It is achievable. You just have to study hard and get experience anyhow to make more money
Now this is a legit advise, infact what OP should be focusing on now is internships whether paid or unpaid.

Like me for example, I just started being active into CyberSec, though little knowledge of past, but instead to be aiming high, I am starting low.
I am connecting with top guru in the industry, tapping real world knowledge from there. It hasn't been easy though, but we just dey grind join.

OP my most sincerest advise to you:
1. Get internships, no CAP.
2. Starting building professional networks, even if you are a gig worker, don't underestimate the power of refferals.
3. As someone said before, if you can contribute to opensource.
4. Take care of you health (especially mental health).
Wishing you all the best. More wins to you.

Guy, I honestly think you could get someone to do the job for you and all that but then, it's not advisable. Moreover, that 48hrs deadline is unrealistic. Those three APIs request methods (GET, POST and DELETE) in that question will take your time, we have not even talked about the DB set up and that shii o. It took me months to learn REST framework properly and someone wants you to all these in 48hrs? Really? Issokay. MOSH YouTube channel has some beautiful tutorials on all these things though. You can check it out if interested.

No bro, I still wouldn't learn it. I'm quite versed in JavaScript, HTML and CSS, I'm even starting to get bored with webdev cos it's too common.

What I wanna really perfect my skills on is App Development, cos I haven't started practically on that, still watching YouTube videos on mockplus cloud and doing the basics.

Except if you have another job already in the bag, I will advise you hold on to this, especially since you can still request an extension of the deadline. Quickly utilize that option and source for inputs from those already on the field, even if it means paying. You would have spared us the jargons tho
Re: Should I Take This Job?(photo) by Nobody: 12:18pm On Dec 12, 2021
Tell him you can't handle it in the time frame given as your expertise is not quite up to that yet. But as someone willing to learn you will explore more learning resources. Hopefully, in the near future, he can still consider you. But work on the task given and understand how to make it work. You can even just do a dummy project based of the tasks and add to your portfolio.

Really can't see why this would be so. PHP framework is typical of most programming languages. My guess is that learning programming itself is the issue here, in which case you would need to work on that if you want any piece of the global action out there. You simply cannot get anywhere if you can't program in this enterprise, of course I could be completely wrong in this assumption.

That's the way sir. See, they will drill you. Even some tests will be too advanced. These are things you must keep in mind and tackle.

I dont think I have even seen any front end job alone these days. So, I keep wondering why someone here promotes knowing only front end. It's when you start applying for jobs you will see that they want full stack. And to even get full stack without experience is hard. So, you just need to start somewhere.

The issue is that those Asians even have practical experience from their high schools. There are many ways they get experiences that keep them going. But here, it is real hustling.

Many people come online to make claims there are jobs. Yes, there are...but if is not for the cheap guys. Or for limited knowledge. You just dont Leeson front end like they claim and yoy land a job. Its hard. If they are sincere, they shoukdntell you that they are also hustling. Many of them dont have job. Some even got jobs on probation and lost it. Lol.

See, those yahop top boys research more than people looking for legit businesses. Some of then can crack blockchain from A to Z. They are hackers. But see, they see results in what they do...and that's why they dont give up. And they make money. It motivates them to keep going. But for us who are trying to be legit, we easily get tired. Those yahoo boys were lone rangers too some years back. Imagine studying blockchain like 4 to 5 years ago. Wont ppl laugh at you? It's the same with learning Artificial intelligence
and data sceince now in Nigeria. They will even discourage you that hunger will kill you. Let's learn from those yahoo boys. Binance doesnt joke with Nigerians. Those boys invested their time in crypto in those days. They endured it till they cracked it and are now experts. We must learn the same from them by having the same spirit. We must not give up. We must push ahead till we overcome the hurdle. But we dong want to endure it. All we want is fast money now. I smile at times.

Sir, you may need to get into back end also before you land a job. This is the honest trust.

One way you can easily get job is diving into marketing. It is a broad topic. Not saying you should lose focus of what you are doing, but at this stage, you just need a job to keep going. If you are gifted in writing, dive into content marketing and SEO also. With your front end skill, you have an edge. There are many ways to get the job done. But believe me, if you want to get job in web development....just be ready to crack it well. Except if one of these boys has a link for you to apply for only front end. But I doubt they will want to assit you with if such truly exists. They wont share with you.

Goodluck sir.

Honestly this advice only works when you are at a senior developer. Op please don't take this advice. I also spammed jobs before I got my first job. People I advised to spam jobs have gotten good jobs very good. One I know in fact works for two companies. One in the UK and the other in Australia. He earns over 3 million a month and he hasn't been coding professionally for up to a year. Even I don't earn up to one million though my earnings are in the high six digits range.

Spam and apply please you are a junior Dev. If you build 100 things from videos and copying and pasting stack overflow solutions it will absolutely never be up to standard. Get into the industry and learn how things work at an industry standard.

What I will advise you op as you are getting interviews is to work on your algorithms. Don't waste your time building any new thing. The ones you have done are okay.
I will like you to mentor my younger brother. I can't divulge sensitive materials here.
I wish we can talk. I don't like where he is right now and as,a big bro, I'm worried.
