Please don’t repaint the faded number plates it’s an offense and it’s not 25k to reprint go the the FRSC Motor Vehicle License office and get first hand details bout replacement from the ones wearing uniform not mufti as they are middlemen.

It's illegal when you do whack job on the painting, but legal when you see a good artist to touch it up for you. A lot of people do message me for number plate replacement, it's a no brainer replacing a number plate at the cost of almost a new one. Get a good artist to spray it for you and make sure it's a clean job.

It is illegal, meanwhile, use only water to wash, it will last for more than 10 yrs

This is what I will suggest based on experience.

Let a painter who knows his job to do it for you and thereafter buy number plate cover. Something like light green cover to cover up the number plate, they will never see the error again.

You are a funny dude, have you ever seen a plate number, or any painting that doesn't fade under the same conditions your plate number is regularly exposed to? Even the colour of your car fades easily.

For me, the 1st rule is not to allow car wash to use hard brush to wash the number plate. By so doing you will help preserve the inferior material used in making the number plate.

Secondly, I didn't ask anyone before getting the same shade of paint & fine art brush to paint it.

I had similar experience and I gave an artist to help me re- paint and trace the number. On my way to Akure I was stopped by the FRSC team at Ijebuode, they claimed the plate number was fake and I was booked. Nothing I didn't say to convince them but they were adamant. I told them they needed to commend me for making my plate number readable, it showed I was not a criminal, they never bulge. I even accused them for making a sub-standard plate number, they said I would have gone to buy another one. Eventually, I parted with 5k as fine!

Our government is substandard. Almost everything they do is substandard.

Your faded number plate means those cameras installed to track cars cannot read your number plate.
2 weeks ago I received text message will bill of 20k from Lagos Via as first offender. Apperently last year March within the 2 weeks my vehicle license expired and when it was renewed the car was driven and that camera detected the car. Where? I do not know. All I saw on the bill is a clear high definition picture of my moto showing the number plate!
Them say I be first offender hence 20 bale.

Or maybe tell your car wash to stop using detergent to wash plates.

A water rinse is what a number plate needs not the scrubbing with harsh liquids and brush that lots of Nigerians indulge in.

Lots of those plates used acrylic. If you use washing materials with higher pH they definitely would wash out. Cleaning agents used for car soaps aren't acidic or caustic but you see car wash using all manner of soaps to wash.

Since i bought my car,
I have taken it to car wash only twice.
First time i bought it and one other time when i was very sick.
I wash car by myself and i have never used soap on the plate, just water and damp cloth.
If u have money go and replace.
If you don't have money, u know what to do

What if they are intentionally making low quality paints, so people can pay for r replacements.

In as much the number is visible and the person do it perfectly, I don't think you'll have issue.
