Canada is a country that is x10 bigger than Nigeria but has only the population of Lagos and Kaduna spread all over its vast territories. Only the province of Ontario (Toronto) alone is far bigger than Nigeria, with about half the Lagos population. Imagine the distance it takes to visit your family or friends in the other part of your province, talk less of the other side of the country. And as an immigrant, you do not have the advantage of social network, so you're building from the bottom up, with other immigrants like you creating an artificial friendship which you all understand, which just makes you stick to yourself.

It's also cold, as in, freezing cold. For example the freezing point from liquid to ice is -1, then imagine when the weather drop to -20, and even lower, for about last six months in a yeas. Also, cold climate and darkness goes hand in hand, so from 4pm where the sun is still burning hard in lagos, it's already darker than night. Harmattan is not cold. If harmattan is cold, then winter is the Arctic.

Nigerians (actually those that haven't left their native countries) romanticise living in the west. They just think that moving abroad is like moving to aso rock, basically gaining the material conveniences of life, while still retaining the immaterial convenience they are oblivious of, but moving abroadmeans youve given up something even if you dont know yet. Also moving abroad teaches immigrant something, that you can't have it all. Yes the system works, but you may dislike the food, your workplace have friendly but your neighbor is a racist.

Your bills are huge, giving you an unnecessary mental stress you're not used to, while balancing the increasing financial demands from those back home. You'll also wonder why you're suffering unnecessary here, because the fulfilment of your soul is not found in material stuff. The convenience of western systems becomes a norm, and you want something more deeper and fulfilling. Also you don't the convenience of blaming anyone, every immigrant is in the same situation as you. Most immigrant just accept this new reality and carry it with dignity, but this is a major cause of loneliness and depression. Western lifestyle is very individualistic hence, lots of immigrant especially from Africa and Asia leave after getting citizenship

The cultural aspect can be funny. Imagine receiving an invitation for a birthday and you are told to bring your own food and drink. Coming late frowned upon, and due to the multi-ethnicity of Canada, the audience fragmented into groups. Blacks stick to themselves and within the blacks, Nigerians can stick to themselves due to simialr culture and can enjoy their company better than with others groups.

This is the more reason why someone like me needs to relocate to Canada ASAP, it is 1 billon times better than this fantastically corrupt shithole

Bro, please do, my point is that it shouldn't be done with ignorance, but with knowledge. If I were you, I will get citizenship, to give me access the world, then just move back to maybe Namibia, Ghana, or a stable, peaceful, African country.

The koko is you have children and they know you as their father whatever they choose to do with their historical background is left for them to decide unless Nigeria gets developed like the European countries many will migrate and forget their roots even if they married their fellow migrants.

Op you are just knowing this. Me I haven't left yet planning to leave but have done appointment to get a vasectomy so I don't get someone pregnant. Will reverse it once I am living in a good country with a path to citizenship. I have said it but people laugh. in the next 20 years if Nigeria continues on its current trend and doesn't change. But then, predominantly black countries are very poor, so will someone forgo economics for racial uniformity? Na racial uniformity go provide my pension?

BTW, I'm curious, why have you not moved to either country? Maybe when you retire?

Youre thinking like a journeyman (employee). 21st century business is not something that necessarily requires a physical location. If this is your route, then why bother about pension and economics? Another question is, would you rather be a wealthy man in a middle income country or be a poor/average man in a wealthy country?

Just earning one million naira monthly will give you a wonderful lifestyle, or similar amount in most reasonable African country to live well with dignity. Lastly, I mentioned earlier that as one grow older, material desires goes down, and the immaterial one goes up. At 50's, you'll probably have been financially established and your worries of 20's and 30's would have been lost in memories like your worries when you're a kid, unless of course a man is pathetically lazy and stupid.

At that age, good weather, sense of belonging, not being invisible, and living in a place where you are part of the culture becomes a priority. Lots of returnees are older for this reason. They've seen it all, and look forward for things like respect, and a stress free easy life, with good food they understand. About me, I shuttle between Africa and Europe at least two times annually, and will probably move to Africa when this corona stuff is over.

It depends on how you play it. I have seen Nigerian men marrying foreigners and making sure they are connected to their root by bringing them home.

The first man I saw who did this brought back 4 of his daughters, without their mother, to Nigeria to start all over again. He raised them here...

So when you are playing it, make sure you have this planned ahead.
