Dear Great Nairalanders

I am in urgent need of your advice on a decision I am about to make that could shape my life and my young family in about few months from now.

I am currently running successful businesses which give me a steady minimum of N1.5M per month with a potential for expansion. I have been nursing the idea of going to UK on a study Visa by September this year with the hope that I can get a well paying job that could surpass my current earnings here in naijja. I also intend to keep my naija business running but we all know trusting people with kind of investment can be tricky and risky.

What assurance do I have about earning more and having a better life in UK? What happens to my businesses I already built up in Naija? What happens to my properties here in naija?

Your advice will be of great help at this critical decision making moment of my life. Thank you
train your wife on the basis of the business before September, or if you can postpone it till she's used to handling the business. You can then travel out for your education and find yourself a good job over there before moving your family there. My two cents

It’s either he is telling you how much he earns before Uber removes its commission or he is not telling the truth

Fake story, UK indeed. The guy probably have probably never seen 1 million total in his life

You have the sense to make 1.5m naira in a month but u don't have the sense to know what will happen to your properties and businesses when or if you leave for the UK? Am I missing something here?

Dont fall for all these nairaland stories. People who earn high income in naija don waste their time typing on a internet forum.

security maybe but the private schools in naija on more the same level as the ones overseas

Hello, I will advise you base on experience, I live in Europe myself, if your motivation of moving abroad is money, I will advise you to stay put in nigeria, 1.5m is alot of money in naija, that should be about 2kpounds, but if your family is your motivation, your children or future ones, I guess it's better you move abroad, at least the basic infrastructure of life will not be their problem, eg, education, health, security etc. Nigeria will surely get better, that's our prayer and nothing like home. Thanks

Re: My Plan To Relocate To Uk by ekerintee: 6:49pm On Feb 21, 2022
It depends on alot of factors, your age ,your strength, your sex.The younger you are ,the stronger you are to endure the hardship abroad.what kind of job do you want to do abroad in UK?.cleaner, factory job ,nurse ,i.t ,driver etc also determines what you earn.can U work 12 hours a day as some folks who claim they save 2k pounds abroad.can u wake up as early as 3am as some people do,can U stand for 8 or more hours working, can you endure racism.can you endure the harsh weather( cold ).can you go thru depression as some folks abroad go through daily .some folks just fail to understand that not everyone have the ability to survive under such conditions.if you can endure such ,you are good to go .Not everyone will tell you how they make their money abroad and what they do to survive. The live abroad is good,if I may advice U,don't jump because everyone is jumping, not everyone land in same place

I don't know why people will leave an environment they know very well to move to a place they know nothing about...... It will take you minimum of 5 years in UK to be on profit level, now add that 5 years to your business, you should be on CEO level.... Why moving to a country that is not yours and can never be yours.... 5 years from now you should be talking about sending your kids to UK to get whatever exposure they will need in this world

You can still travel to UK, stay for like 4 weeks , make your research, see things for yourself.... No be person go tell you to run back home and continue with what you are doing.... You want to know the truth? You are doing well.

Bro. Your contribution makes good sense

Guk:

As a post graduate degree student, you are officially allowed 20 hours a week to work & average of 10pounds per hour gives you 800pounds a month....roughly N600k a month. As said above here, you can earn more if you are on the skills shortage list.

You will be amazed that 800 pounds a month in U.K. gives you as much comfort as N1.5m in Nigeria.

The decision should be based on your future's road map though

If you think 800 pounds gives you comfort in the UK, you clearly havent even been to the international airport in lagos, talk more of the UK.

There is no guarantee you will get job after graduation. If your occupation is not in shortage list in uk you are likely to get frustrated. Alot of Nigerians rushing to school in uk will learn soon. But hey nigeria is hell already
That's a bloody lie, i am currently in UK and life is well here.

You earn what you do, people in UK will surely understand my statements better.

No amenities in Nigeria, but here you get everything you pay for.

Anyone that feels leaving Nigeria is the best for him should do now.

I am here as a student and i know what i have earned within a short period. Shortage or no shortage, there are different means of getting cash.

Most of you are speaking like little children. I have friends in Lagos who make 3M monthly.
2 of them don’t know each other but every time we talk, all that occupies their mind with is how they can give their family a UK life.
Why ? because they have made it and the next agenda on their mind is to give their children the best upbringing .
It’s called Maslow hierarchy of needs.

Please let the brother think!
Even my cousin in the 90s their temporary Governor Dad sent them to a boarding school in Oxford that year.
This thread is a rich man problem.

1.5m is a lot. That's what some people earn over there. And 70% of it goes to bills. Earning the same amount you can live like a king in Nigeria compared to the white man over there.

If I can be making roughly 300k monthly from my little doing...I believe 1.5m is feasible for someone with a bit while existing business.

If I expand my business in two fold there's feasible chance I'll earn close to what this op claim his earning.

So don't doubt what has never been your experience bcoz you can only see within your circle unless you change your quadrant.

I pray you read this and if you do kindly take note of my advice, if you don't have any plan to go into drugs or illegal biz in UK, kindly stay in Nigeria for now. If you put your current earning in Nigeria, your closeness to friends and family and your freedom in Nigeria together, I bet it will be difficult for you to find a Nigerian in UK, doing legit job that is currently earning what you are earning now.

The future you will be providing for your kids, it's not all about money.....if you can be running the business from UK.....for me, I will advice you to leave .......in ten years time, you will be happy dor the bold step taken .......... Nigeria is getting worse every seconds.......
WoundedLamb:
Assurance? There're nothing like assurance when it comes to making such moves. It's a big-risk-big-reward kinda thing. Seeing that you're not into some of those so-called hot professions, I suggest you apply caution. Consider the fact that it'll take some time before you reach your full potential in the UK as an immigrant on student visa. And even when you eventually start earning more, what you should consider is your savings after recurring expenses and not the amount itself cause naturally, what you earn in pounds would seem to be higher. It could go either ways but another factor you must take into consideration is the amenities and security you'd enjoy, and of course, the future you'd be providing for your kids. It's not all about money.

If you really want to, why don't you consider Canada instead. I'm sure there are a lot of opportunities to explore there, in terms of expanding your business (depending on the type).

Don't forget to help people too.

You will need a manager to look after your business, I can help you with that if the salary is good and if we can agree on a flexible work schedule.more info on the property. Is it an already built structure or you are erecting it?
If built then it can be put up for shortlet.
If you need someone trustworthy and on the ground in Nigeria (Lagos) precisely to look after your business or properties then send me a PM.
