You are obviously not into tech. Some entry level position in tech pay that amount.

I have made it clear that we have contract staff who are not permanently employed and those ones get high pay so dont confuse the two.

There are basically two types of employment which are permanent staff and contract staff.

I guess he did not specify but no permanent staff in any tech industry makes £90k except the very few ogas at the top.

I just hope you realise how you sound with this kind of attack. The OP asked a valid question, coming from someone that spent 11 years abroad. Abandoning everything you know and a life envied by most for a country where you have no family or friends is not an easy thing to do. In fact, he can lose that job in a few months if global uncertainty and risk continue to rise due to ongoing war in Eastern Europe.

Most people saying Japa, have never lived that life.

When I opened the thread
The focus was to get insights from people already there like you

I initially thought this would be an easy decision...but man it's not

Bros 4k pounds doesn't sound like much over there(especially if you're into programming). And when you look at future expenses , you might not really be able to say afloat (especially with a family and all). So I'll advice if you ask for a remote opportunity with the company, since it's obvious you're intrested in increasing your financial power

Completely ignore this idea!

Western countries are becoming more stringent in allowing legal immigration each passing day, any opportunity you get to jappa today, don’t delay it a minute longer, ask those who delayed their immigration all over the world until Trump came into office.

4K pound/monthly after tax is not too great and it is not too bad, you will find many earning lower than you and it is more or less a stepping stone to better IT jobs, your employers know this and they wouldn’t even keep you at that level for too long else they will lose you to their competition right next door.

And as soon said earlier, you may be doing this for your extended family. Yes, it is possible that, UK is bad but you need to go experience it yourself, after all you can still come back to Nigeria if you don’t like it there.

£4k net a month is around £70k Annual Gross Salary, it is quite significant and definitely above average salary.

I do not know if it is a good salary for the profession you are into, however you will live a good life on that salary.

Rent/mortgate £1600 (assuming a 3 bed in an average area, if you are OYO, maybe £1,000 for a 1 bed flat)
Utilities £400.00 depending on your lifestyle and how big your house is.
Transport £250.00 depending on your home-office locations
Misc commitments (food, clothings, village people, charity etc) £750
Savings £1000.00

All the above are average, as your empire grows so will your commitments, car, childcare, uniforms etc and salary will not increase inline with these commitments.

Goodluck!!

1.5Million Naira is far better than 4kGBP in the UK . However, since UK is a credit environment, your credit will rise and you can have access to take loan to do so many things. It depends on what you want.

If you are working remotely, 4kGBP will be cool. That means you are earning in the UK but spending in Nigeria. But once you move into UK environment, you will have saving but not like you anticipate.

It is very possible to earn £60,000 per year doing tech jobs. There are people that earn £1,000/day.

The question is out of the multitude of job seekers in the UK and US, why would employers employ someone based in Nigeria to do a tech job based in the UK/US? There are work visa issues to sort out, how does the person pay tax? Which bank account do they receive the salary in e.t.c. Maybe they are consultants working independently and not employees. Or they could be be employed locally to work in Nigerian subsidiaries but payed in foreign currency. Or they have some very specialist skills. What kind of tech roles are they in?

At the end of the day na still demsay unless you have seen the money go into their account with your own eyes.

They are simply contract employees.

People hire consultants or contracts from UK and US to work on long term projects, but this isn't a full time role & there are no work visas granted. You are a remote onsultant and that's it.

This is what Andela does full time & I know for sure.

Bros, there are remote opportunities that pay just as much and are willing to offer you growth without relocating. Secondly, the purpose of immigration is to increase the financial status of an individual and nor necessarily waste time pursing greener pastures that many of you never see in their lifetime

Let me tell you one thing, except he's living in a village in Derbyshire, he'll most likely live in a small flat whilst spending 1k pounds on that alone.

Car - 300 pounds a month

Phone, broadband, Netflix - 180

Council tax - 200

Electricity - 120

That's already 1800 pounds without even paying for fuel and clothes and feeding.
what about people that earn less than £2,000 nko?

Earning 5million in naija is better than earning 4k pounds in UK,
The man wrote 1.5million, not 5m. Please check again. 5 million naira is more than £6,600.

I have cousins who were living like a rich upper class family in naija their dad was working in uk from naija but ever since they moved to the UK, they've been struggling to pay bills and it's been more than 5 yrs now they're still living from hand to mouth in the UK, unlike when they were here they were living in big men quarters
I agree. It is because govt subsidizes many things in Nigeria. And it is really affecting us. Also, Nigeria is a dumping ground for used things. However, things are changing fast. You better start buckling up. APC wants to subsidize fuel again cos of the next coming election, but IMF is telling them nope. They know it isn't possible too. If you ask GEJ, he will tell you that subsidizing is killing us. Buhari who used the gimmick to get to power knows better now. Sir, Nigeria will soon be crazily expensive. Bu the time govt removes everything, reality will be seen clearly.

The safe way is to move and still hold on to Naija. Go and start investing in buying houses in Naija before they become so expensive again. This is the only way I see. In the next 10 years, Nigeria will be expensive. Land will be too. The true value of naira will start reflecting. We will see it clearly.

Very soon, govt will ban used cars from entering Naija. I can see it happening. And that time, govt will tell you all to use public transport system. Most state governments will tap into the ride-sharing business very soon. They will follow Lagos. This is how Nigerians will enter the same credit system in those nations. And naija's case will be worse.

If you are a tech guy and you follow these things, you will know. Better you japa if you can now, but start buying properties in good places in Naija.

And if you can japa and forget Naija. You have only 70 years to live. Live anywhere and live well.

Good luck!

Liar

Now I know why people are suspicious of stories on Nairaland. No one will make an after tax offer to you in the UK. You either pay through PAYE or you sort out your own tax outside IR35. In both cases your offer will be your gross annual salary.

Tell me I am a hater but no one is offering you a £90,000/year job in the UK from Nigeria simply because you are 'tech bro', Whatever dafuq that mean. I dont care if you can write perfect API code straight from sleep or you are a developer, SDET, BA, Architect, PM all rolled in one.

4000 * 12 = 48,000, how did you see 90,000
