Do you have an idea @ Folake4u or anyone

Bad experience for me

The first time from Lagos to Know 2019

I boarded first class, at first the train detached on getting to Ibadan, after much fixing, my coach was without light for a while, they fixed that, and all was good until we got to Niger

Omo to climb one particular hill like that, the name sounds like shawkwata,

In fact, the engine knocked, they brought in engine from Kaduna, he no work, even brought in one from Kano, he still no gree work,

What even baffled me was the fact, that a couple was relocating with their three kids, and the kids are visiting Nigeria for the first time, omo, we spend, three days inside bush, this kids were asking for burger inside bush, speaking American English for us. We tell them welcome to Nigeria.

One of them pool inside nylon and was asking the mom, why should she pool inside a nylon. What to do inside this kind matter.

It wasn't funny ooo. Some of the staffs wanted to leave us and japaa but thank God they were apprehended and thus, they had to provide food and security for us.

Na luxurious bus kukuma take me to Kano.

I sha came back with train, a better experience but when we almost reach Lagos, he stopped working, and I reach the next day, but never to use again until I see a massive change

My experience from Abuja to Kaduna in 2020
It was an excellent ride but crowded with a lot of people having no seats

This was my first time boarding a train ride and it was eventful yet awesome.
Many Nigerians have taken to using the railway service as against road trips(which is farther, fear of bandits, and bad roads).
For instance, from Abuja to Benin is 10-12hrs straight by road. lipsrsealed

There are different railway stations in Nigeria and they ply several routes which includes:
1. Ujevwu-Itakpe.
2. Abeokuta-Ibadan
3. Lagos-Abeokuta
4. Lagos-Ibadan
5. Abuja-Kaduna

The Beginning:
There are two railway stations in Kogi State, Ajaokuta Railway station and Itakpe Railway station.
I boarded a bus from Abuja at Jabi Motorpark, I told the bus driver I was going to Itakpe Railway station but he dropped me at Ajaokuta Railway Station instead.
From Abuja to Itakpe is 3hrs, the price is 3,500-4k.
From Abuja to Ajaokuta is 5hrs. The driver collected 2,500 from me.
So, choose your poison. I prefer anyone drops at Itakpe Railway Station though (because it's the last and most important bus stop).
*****************************************
The train leaves twice in a day, morning and afternoon and so I had missed the morning train, and so I waited for the afternoon train.
Morning train leaves Itakpe at 8:30am while that at Ajaokuta is 9:23am.
Afternoon train leaves Itakpe at 2:45pm, that of Ajaokuta is 3:38pm.
Tickets are sold 20-30mins to the train arrival at Ajaokuta Railway station.
There are two types of tickets sold here.
1. First class- N5,500.
2. Economy class- N3000.

I boarded the First Class coach because I wanted comfort and less noise.

From Ajaokuta to Agbor is 3hrs and so I got to Agbor at 6:30pm(instead of 6:12pm) because there was delay at the earliest train station in Uromi.

I boarded a bus at Agbor Railway Station to Benin for N2,000 and I arrived safely home and dry.

Share your train ride experience here, whether Ujevwu-Itakpe, Abeokuta-Ibadan, Lagos-Abeokuta, Lagos-Ibadan, or Abuja-Kaduna.

Pic 1: Train station at Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
Pic 2-3: Waiting area of passengers. These passengers were very tired. Some of them like me missed their morning train ride.
Pic 4: Arrival of morning train passengers who want to board vehicle to Abuja.

Isn't it buhari that built this. Has anyone ever said "Thank you Buhari"....all they know to do is complain.

The Lagos to Kano route is the old and narrow gauge one. This is the one that existed from the colonial era. It's not as comfortable as these new ones and it takes days to one's destination. The new trains which are the standard gauge only operate from ABJ-KD, LAG-IB and Itakpe- Warri.
The plan is to connect Lagos to Abuja then to Kano but they've decided to segment the construction. The current construction going on is the Kano to Kaduna that will automatically link Kano to Abuja.
Then there is the Itakpe- to Abuja construction that will also automatically link Abuja to Warri. Construction on this route will resume later in the year

Wow, I had no idea there's a Lagos-Kano route.
Thank you for this information.

Yes, there is.

First class ticket is 5k, second class is 2700(to Kaduna). (Na that old train way oyinbo dash us grin )

It's a 2 night journey. From Friday to Sunday.

I boarded the second class coach at Agege station, Lagos. The journey started well until we got to offa kwara state, that was when the first issue came up it was fixed after some hours sha. The second issue was in Niger state. The train ran off its track. Only the first 7 coaches could continue the journey to Kaduna and I was in the 11th Coach.

Omoh kon see rushing. I was able to enter one of the coaches through the window. E no funny that day.

Wednesday last week I went to Ujevwu Station to meet up the morning train, got there and saw massive crowd (later learnt that new corps members went to camp that day) and I was almost regretting why I didn't go to GIGM and enter Abuja bus. They said they have stopped selling tickets for morning ride, I was about going back when I saw some people entering the train via another way, I joined them. Turned out to be the engine room, long story short, they charged us 4k and it was when we got to Ajaokuta, they managed to smuggle us into the coach. Got to Itakpe and took a bus to Zuba 2k5. Coming back, I was early enough to get a ticket back to Warri

Wow! shocked Engine room Kwa?? That's risky oh.

Nigerians and overcharging!! 4k ke!

I'd like to use the train again, but since you said Ujevwu doesn't issue out tickets in the morning again, I guess I'd just use Agbor railway station again.

Who knew one could leave Edo and Delta State and get to Kogi State under 3hrs?
Well, now you know.
The starting point is at Ujevwu(Warri) and last railway station at Itakpe,Kogi State. From there, you can go to any northern state of your choice and it's a safe option as against the long road trips.
The sequence is in this format:
Ujevwu(Warri), Okpara, Abraka, Agbor (all in Delta State) then Igbanke, Ekehen, Uromi, Agenebode, Itogbo(all in Edo State), and finally Ajaokuta, Itakpe (both in Kogi State).

Ujevwu-Itakpe destination (Morning Train)
For instance, the train departs from Ujevwu(Warri) at 8am, it gets to Agbor at 9:26am, and then Igbanke at 9:49am, next is Ajaokuta at 12:01noon, the final stop is at Itakpe, 12:49noon

Ujevwu-Itakpe (Afternoon Train)
Ujevwu- 2:15pm
Agbor- 3:41pm
Ajaokuta- 6:15pm
Itakpe- 7:04pm

*******************
Itakpe-Ujevwu destination (Morning Train)
Itakpe:8:30am
Ajaokuta:9:23am
Agbor: 11:57am
Finally, Ujevwu (Warri): 1:19pm.

Afternoon Train-
Itakpe- 2:45pm
Ajaokuta- 3:38pm
Agbor: 6:12pm
Finally, Ujevwu- 7:34pm

I boarded at Ajaokuta Railway Station and these are the prices to the following.
From Ajaokuta to Itakpe- N1,400
Itogbo- N1,400
Agenebode- N1,400
Uromi- N1,400
Ekehen- N3,000 Igbanke, Agenebode, Abraka, Okpara, Agbor, Ujevwu- all 3k (for economy class).
First Class to the above locations is N5,500.

Price list for Abuja-Kaduna

Pic 2: My seat.
PS: All seats(whether Economy or First class) have charging ports beside it, plus AC.
The First Class coach I boarded was showing YouTube Yoruba movie channel.
Pic 3: First Class ticket.

PS: They also sell snacks and soft drinks on the train in case you're hungry.
There's also armed Police officers on the train to maintain law and order. tongue

It should be noted that before buying tickets at the Ajaokuta Railway Station, you'd have to write your name in the logbook and also present your ID card at the counter. Any means of identification is fine, whether Driver's license, International Passport, NIN, Student ID.
Nice thread, lovely experience you had i see. Is their a direct train line from Lagos to Abuja?

Nope, I didn't say they don't issue out tickets in the morning. I said that particular day when I got there, there was too much crowd who couldn't get tickets and they said we should wait till afternoon ride. The engine room, not where the engine is tho(we passed through the engine to enter a particular coach but they closed the door of that coach after they had admitted some persons), but where the engineer stays. The engineer that day was a Nigerian Soldier who was drafted to NRC

The reason the one of the colonial Era is not as comfortable as the new one is because those ones were built for the sole purpose of transporting goods from the hinterland to be sent to Britain.

Once you arrive Itakpe which is the last stop, you'll see cars going to Abuja.

If you're going with your personal car or you decide to hire a cab that can take you to Delta early before 8am then yes you can meet up. Truth is they don't keep to time sometimes due to one reason or the other so, the train might leave by 8am on the dot or after 8am/8;30am but it's best you're there before the said time.

I used the train again back to Abuja during the weekend. I decided to board the Economy class this time and I met lots of crazy characters here.

It seems that the train ride is fast gaining momentum as we saw lots of passengers who were waiting for the train at Uromi railway station.
