What's Your Take On State Generating Their Electricity by Starberg(m): 6:59pm On Mar 02, 2022 |
The National Assembly passed the bill for State to generate their electricity. These are my views: 1. This will break the monopoly of Discos 2. The State Governors will have no where to hide their inadequates. 3.The people will know whom and where to lodge their complaints. 4.The state governments would want to compete with one another by looking into other source of power like solar etc. 5. Price of services will fall like barbing, photocoping etc. 6. Investors would want to invest in states with adequate electricity supply 7. It will be used as one of the criteria to judge a parforming Governor. 8. Las las Ghana will stop mocking us with light 9. Less attention will be focused on fuel. 167 Likes 7 Shares |

Starberg:DISCOS don't generate light, they only distribute. The problem now is that, state might generate, but discos will fail to buy most of what the states are generating There should be a bill that will make more distribution company start operating as DISCOS too I might be wrong though. 110 Likes 1 Share |

Starberg: Delete point 5 Electricity isn't cheap anywhere It could even be more expensive due to disadvantaged economics of scale now Modified: this is why we must mind who we vote in 2023. Vote in another anti-restructuring man and he will pressure the house to cancel states taking VAT and power 81 Likes 2 Shares |

seanfer: Exactly. Besides MOST of the infrastructure being utilised by the present DISCOS are state-owned and were not put in place by these DISCOS. This is most needed in Edo state 13 Likes 1 Share |

There will be no significant changes if we still have mediocre governors. Nothing stops government from having refineries in their states. But how many governors in Nigeria built a refinery? 28 Likes |

Op we haven't seen the bill so these comments for now might not be in order. Did the bill give states the power to set up distribution company or generating company? Discos distribute while gencos generate. And the last I heard, there is enough power been generated but the discos were not buying it so the power ends up being wasted. So establishing more Genco might be fruitless. Any I will comment more when I see the bill 6 Likes |

gaddafe: Since it's has been settled in the house, the Executive has no option than to sign it and then the state that are ready to work don't need the whistle to be blown before they implement it. |
Re: What's Your Take On State Generating Their Electricity by Starberg(m): 7:36pm On Mar 02, 2022 |

I trust Dave Umahi to be the first give his State 24hour power supply. It's time everybody will know that South East is the home of Natural gas 21 Likes |

Goddyj:Lol Most power projects will take not earlier than 3-4years to complete, meaning your governor can't finish it within a term, and I don't think you will vote him for 3 terms Thank God at least, hope looks feasible now 6 Likes |

Starberg: It's like you didn't get the message I passed. If the states are to implement? What will they be implementing? Is it creating companies that generates power? If this is the case, then it's going to be a wasted effort as that is not currently the problem in the power sector. The question I'm asking you the Op which I'm not sure of is whether the power sector was removed from the exclusive list? Or was it just only approved that state should generate power? If the latter was the case then it's a wasted effort. If it's the former then we might see something new. 1 Like |

gaddafe: You are the one not getting it. States now have the power to generate their own electricity by any means they feel like, coal, gas, wind, solar.. The monopoly of FG on electricity is what have been the major problem with electricity generation in Nigeria. OBALOLA55 191 Likes |
Re: What's Your Take On State Generating Their Electricity by helinues: 9:40pm On Mar 02, 2022 |
Ttalk: The companies and industries would be the first to ginger their state governors with proper documentation on the benefits. Also, state with high concentration of companies and industries would be financially buoyant to start the generating of electricity. This is more like devolution of electricity.. helinues: I dare you to provide a link to the bill and let's analyse it. The house of Assembly does not have the power to use the word "any means they feel like". Rather states will only generate power with the approved means of generation which will be approved by the federal government. Also that's not even the main issue here as I didn't quote you. Power sector is divided into generation, transmission and distribution. If the house approved state for generating power, it means the federal is still in charge of the other two sections. I bet you didn't know this. Please think we'll next time before quoting me. 3 Likes |

The good news is that states will throw their doors open for investors to make 24hrs feasible as that's a pointer to rapid industrialization of their domain. It's not yet uhuru as there are more legislations to be made so as to concretizes this new amendment hence not to create loopholes for saboteurs. Remember, our politicians and their cronies still import generators into the country. There should be a way to curb any sabotage on the part of government. This is Nigeria, remember! |
Re: What's Your Take On State Generating Their Electricity by Starberg(m): 7:36am On Mar 03, 2022 |
Nyanmiridunce: This is actually true in West and North. But the business men and women will not allow that to exist because of the importation of generator. 1 Like |
