There are people in the mainland that stay far from the office too. I have a friend that lives at ojota but her office is at festac and she navigates that everyday.
I know someone else that lives at apapa and the office is at oworonsokì. If you know lagos very well, u will know distances and fares such people pay to get to work.
I stay on the mainland and I made sure my office is close to home. #100 shuttle bus will get me to work.

So many factors will determine this.

A Bank worker in Lagos on the same level/Grade as a Bank worker in Ilesa Osun state for example:

They earn the same amount, let's say 300k.

The one in Ilesa will get a 2 bedroom flat for about 150k per annum.
The one in Lagos(let's say around Ojota/Oregun) will get the same flat with same facilities for about 600k per annum.

Some people also don't mind using 3 months salary to pay rent in a case where choosing an accommodation close to workplace gives them peace of mind and significantly reduces stress. Health is Wealth you know.

Overall, it can be justifiable if one has genuine reasons for going for an accommodation that gulps about 3 months salary. The person will make up for it in other areas like cutting cost on gadgets, devices, vacations, gifts, wears. Some will not even pay tithe to make up for it. It depends on individual.

One month salary pays my rent.

My one month salary takes care of my one year rent ….about 65% of my one month salary, to be precise and I've been in that 2-bedrm apartment for the past 12 years. Not that I cant afford a bigger place but I have much better plan. Hope to finish and move into my house in a few months time.

If 1 month or 2 months salary can pay your annual rent as most commenters here claimed, that mean a lot of Nairalanders are doing well with good Salaries.

A well furnished modern 2 bedrooms apartments in most places in Lagos cost around 300k - 1.2m. Even in other city like Ibadan, you cant get a well furnished 2 bedrooms apartment at good location less than 200k.

So if your 1 or 2 months salary can do that, just know you are doing well and stop complaining about Buhari administration.
