And what is he trying to do NOW after the destruction? It wasn't even about surrendering, it was about not joining NATO.

Ordinary oil cut off and sanctions, Russia is feeling the heat already.
War is bad, no one win it well, both sides will count thier loses.
Russia cannot win NATO, NATO countries are not interested in a war right now. That doesn't mean they cannot fight.
War are not win only by weapon alone. You need money.
If there is a war many nations will back the EU and US.
And the highest Russia will do is throw nuclear. But other countries has nuclear too. I don't want war.
Russia offers the world nothing except oil and gas. The USA and Europe are the engine of the world. And Russia knows they Russia have little to lose.
