There is nothing inherently wrong with her choice of accessory, and it in no way portrays irresponsibility.

This is just a reflection of how overly conservative our culture is. She, for better or worse, should have been wary of this.
I wouldn’t deny someone a job based on a relatively insignificant accessory like a leg chain. But to each their own.

She wasn’t wrong. She is just in the midst of cultural cavemen.

A leg chain (gold or silver) is hardly out of place in a corporate attire, just as we wouldn’t consider earrings or neck laces to be out of place.
It’s just a cultural association of leg chains with promiscuity and irresponsibility that is the problem.

We should tackle the superficiality of most Nigerian judgements, because we focus on the wrong things.
Instead of assessing her intellect and fit for the job, they focused on her choice of accessories. Shows the company has their priorities in the right place.

Part of the signs corporate employers look out for in smart candidates is emotional intelligence.

As you've said already, if there's a widespread cultural perception associating leg chain with promiscuity, why then would a candidate wear a visible leg chain to an interview? Isnt that implying to the employer that the candidate isnt emotionally aware of the local business culture and that that might rub off negatively on clients or customers?

You can't go to culturally sensitive environments like China, Japan and India and be challenging them on why they aren't employing you because you are expressing your "liberality', that would be very d*mb.

You have to respect and understand how things are done in wherever you find yourself to get what you want. That's a core part of being smart.
