You almost had this, it is well. I am concerned about your proposed interview transcript cos you seem to be focusing on job while it would seem to me that the whole thing went south because VO doubted the marriage. Send me a msg here on Nairaland, need to drop some tips with you before the next interview

Yes. There was too much going on with the F2 in the first interview and the VO was just not buying it. F2 shouldn't have control of everything.

Hi guys, I’ve been a silent participant on here, great job from everyone for all the insights, tips and ideas being shared at all times. So I got this offer from Ball State University. A 50% tuition remission and GAship which makes my tuition instate...the stipend makes a lot of sense though, I wish I had a full tuition waiver though, what do you think bout it?

Good evening nairalanders,
I have been a silent reader here after I finished all my applications last year. To the Glory of God, I just got a PhD offer at University of Maryland Baltimore.

Please, I will be happy to connect with fellow nairalanders who just got admission or are presently schooling here to come to my rescue. I have some questions to ask before accepting the offer.

Good day Nairalanders, been following this thread after a friend told me about it. I had a VISA interview in which I got denied at the U.S embassy at Abuja on the 23rd of December 2021. I informed my school after the interview that ill like to defer my admission and I am working towards the fall 2022 admission date. I would be grateful if anyone here can share their piece as this would be helpful
I got into Benedict College to study computer engineering. I got a Scholarship which also covers the full cost of my tuition. I'm 21 years of age also. My transcript goes thus:
1st attempt- denied
VISA interview date- 23rd of December
Location- Abuja
V.O was a young Asian american guy
Undergraduate course of study- Computer engineering.
Tuition and fees- $23000
Scholarship- $14000
Deficit-$9000
College- Benedict College

V.O- Have you travelled out before
Me- No, I haven't

V.O-I see you have a partial scholarship, who is expected to pay the rest
Me-I got a full tuition scholarship, my dad is expected to cater for the remaining cost.

V.O- Ok, what does your dad do?
Me- My dad is a medical director of Vines hospital, he is also a medical consultant for hospitals within and outside Nigeria, he also goes for medical outreaches within and outside Africa.

V.O-Do you have a Bank statement with you
Me- Yes I do, I gave it to him, (just flipped some pages, and after a while handed it back to me.

V.O-I see you graduated from high school in the year 2017, what have you been doing since then
Me- Shortly after graduating from high school, I joined the education USA program at the U.S consulate Lagos, where I was guided by advisors in applying to colleges, at the same time I served as a volunteer whereby I was tasked with duties like printing membership ID cards. I also took series of college level coding courses in python and machine learning that is going to be useful to me as a prospective computer engineer.
V.O- I'm sorry, I won't be able to give you VISA.

I look forward to reapplying again this coming fall, I would be grateful f I could be shown places where you think I committed some errors or places I could do better, and also tips when I’m filling my next DS-160

Lol. Odogwu, hope you’ve sha accept the offer? Even if you’re expecting something huge elsewhere, still accept it, Because all these rants won’t solve anything here. Some people wish they have ‘just’ that offer; in that same school.

Please accept it and if you THINK YOU DESERVE MORE, you can easily email them and let them know and understand. If it’s BSU, they would surely get back to you with a clear feedback.

Again, Congratulations and good luck champ!

Hello people, could you guys help with looking at this mock interview questions & answers and evaluate by constructive criticism etc.. Here it goes ;

Why are you going to the US?
A: I’m going to the US for my masters in Statistics ( Biostatistics concentration) in the department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University in Downtown Atlanta Georgia - USA.

Q: How Many Schools did you apply to?
A: 13 schools in the USA, 2 in Canada and 1 in Singapore

Q: How many of them offered you admission?
A: 6 of them offered me admission while others are still pending.

Q: Why Georgia State University ?
A: Apart from the fact that they offered me full tuition waiver, an employment and a monthly stipend, Georgia State University stands out for me because they match my objectives, training opportunities and field research . These are in line with my goal of being a lecturer after my Masters and PhD Programs. Also, apart from the fact that he has been helpful to me through out the admission process, I am particularly fascinated by the research work of Professor Gengsheng Qin. He researches on "statistical methods in diagnostic medicine and biological research" ; " survival analysis" etc which will be very effective in my quest to being a biostatistic lecturer of note after my PhD studies. I also chose this school because of its rich culture of faculty and student diversity.

Q: Where is Georgia state university located?
A: It is located in Downtown Atlanta Georgia USA.

Q: Why do you want to have this degree?
A: My dream is to impart knowledge to the younger generations and in order to do that having a masters and PhD degree will increase my market value when i return to my al mata (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka) in Nigeria

Q: Who is your sponsor?
A: My school( Georgia State University) is sponsoring me. They offered me a tuition waiver with an employent as a graduate lab assistant and a monthly stipend. The deficit will be covered by my first cousin Mr Michael Uhuegbu.

Q: What does he do?
A: He is studying for his PhD in Vanderbilt University right now.

Q: Are you married?
A: Yes i am

Q: Do you have a relative in America?
A: I don't have a immediate relative but i have a first cousin by name Mr Michael Uhuegbu

Q: Why is he sponsoring?
A: He has been so passionate about my career and I told him about my ambitions. After i got my admission and he saw the funding deficit he immediately said he would cover it.

Q: Why do you want to study in the US?
A: Apart from the part that the US is known to have one of the best education system in the world having my education in the US will expose me to the advance practical and theoretical aspects of statistics. Also like I said having a master and PhD degree from an america university will do my credentials a whole lot of good on returning to my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Q: How did you get to know this school?
A: After outlining my aims and objectives I decided to do a comprehensive search to find and filter schools in line with my goals. I did this by using google and other academic websites like USNEWS.com etc

Q: What is your study plan/What are the courses you’ll be taking?
A: It would take me about 28 months to complete the total of 30 credit hours ( comprising of 24 hours coursework and 6 hours thesis research). My courses include but not limited to Survival analysis, Advance methodologies in Biostatistics, Linear Statistical Analysis etc

Q: What’s your plan after graduation?
A: With my updated knowledge of the various aspects of Statistics and its application, I’ll be coming back home to the role of a lecturer in my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Q: If I give you this visa, what will you do?
A: That means I have 28 months to equip myself with the theoretical and practical skills needed to be a lecturer and then I will head back to my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria to take up a lecturer role and impact knowledge. My al Mata have since been experiencing dearth of statistics lecturers and i I would like to fill this void.

Thanks!

Boss, I got into the same school and dept. Can we connect? I'm preparing for my interview.

Was this the way you said it at the embassy during your interview? I would be glad if you can reply. Thank you.

Ah! Your cousin in SCHOOL (not just any school, same country school wey you wan enter) would cover your own deficit? Base on, he’s fully funded there or flowing in USA wealth?
Ah! Ah!! Ah!!! This wan no sound right at all. Biko, In all you do, don’t even try SAYING that.
Find a 9ja SOA and say your Uncle (as they’re expecting, lol) you can even use his 9ja account to do that.

You’re going for USA interview, you only meant to give USA related answer(s) to the question(s) being ask; talking about removing the Canada and Singapore schools mentioned in your names and numbers of schools applied to.

PS: Those are the 2 ‘things’ that catch my attention to reply rn.

Goodluck boss!

Edit:

Just seeing this rn: “ he saw the funding deficit he immediately said he would cover it.”

Lmao! Please oh, IMMEDIATELY COVER IT ke? You want them to bring his own personal record(s) to your ‘face’, make you know say him sef never balance, they would easily do that. Just to save their own time and stress; They won’t sef, because they know it’s like ‘not possible’. A student LIKE YOU, want to fund you. Lol
Even Dangote won’t ‘immediately’ covers someone’s DEBT, when it’s not ‘passion’ or they jazz him. Lol

Please don’t play that ‘card’ for your own sake.
PLEASE!
That person already interviewed and got his Visa though.

on the bright side, I can just re write waec and just say I finished school this year since my waec result will show it was written in 2022 yh? when does fall reg start? or lest i forget , I was doing the open university last year but it felt like a waste of money

If you want to rewrite the waec then plan towards Fall or Spring 2023. Admission for Fall session usually from Dec-April, classes start in August/September depending on the school.
