They will force, threaten and blackmail you to pay...
If not so... I told a district manager we have no light and that made it difficult to people in the house to pay their bills, he vehemently told me, if that is the case, he will totally disconnect us so that both of us will have rest of mind. Who does that in this hot weather. Kia, wickedness at the highest order.
can u imagine. Very wicked people.

Exactly!! For those that didn't know, Barth nnaji was the best power minister we ever had..

He understood the system and we held forth, Nigeria enjoyed more power.

But he was really frustrated by some cabals

I later heard that he had to resign because of threat on his life and sabotaging of his efforts by importers of generators( don't know how true that was though).

But his resignation still baffles me because he was really doing well

Go & ask Mr Stealing of public funds is not corruption to be more specific, it had to do with conflict of interest with Nnaji’s energy company.

Nigerians are more interested in not having electricity.

I think the best thing is for states to be empowered to generating, transmitting and distributing their own power to serve their own people instead of this outdated national grid!
Imagine a south south state where the gas is coming from cannot even boast of 4 hours power in a day!

There are private companies that are capable and ready to build the generating plant but because of a constitution that says a generating capacity that exceeds one mega watts must be transferred to the national grid!

I just hope the amended power bill is finally signed by the president so that we can know who to hold responsible!

In 2022,we are still paying more for 'darkness'! Smh!

The amended power bill would definitely be assented to enable states generate power because states like Kano and Lagos are already advanced in building such power infrastructures and their people in NASS and Presidency would press for their states interests.

And it's a welcome development for all the states to grow.

Hypocrite everywhere. When this Barth Nannies was the Minister of Power, what did he do? He doesn’t need a spokesperson but let him tell us and provide verifiable evidence. That’s the question the so called journalist should have asked him instead of this envelope collecting journalist that we have in Nigeria

Stop talking nonsense!
Barth Nnaji was the best minister of power Nigeria ever had. During his tenure, there was significant improvement in electricity supply in Nigeria.

Today, he has built the biggest private power generating and supply company called Geometric in Aba. Because of his doggedness, Aba is about to become the first city to enjoy constant electricity supply.

I think that this problem, as repeated by Prof. Barth Nnaji, is well-known to both the public and private the stakeholders of the sector. But what curious minds like myself would like to know is how we can solve this problems, and also if it's the FG, state government, or the private sector that should be relied upon to solve it once and for all, that way we'll know who to hold accountable for prolonging this problem. We keep making this stable electricity issue seem like it's rocket science.

Perhaps it's a lack of will to solve the problems that is the issue because these problems have always been there. Why can't a solution be devised for the sector the way it was with the Telecommunications sector for example?

The problem is directly linked to the structure of Nigeria as a country.

I have learnt that you can solve technical problems unless you have solved the organisation and governance problems first.

I am sure that Professor Nnaji is aware that the technical problems are symptoms of vested interest and bad governance. Nigeria has tried both privatisation and state ownership with little or no change to the country's electricity and energy requirements.

I have lived in the UK for many years and they have a regional power grid like British Gas in England & Wales and Scottish Electric in Scotland, the success of these two energy providers has got to the stage that Scottish Electric is now providing gas and electricity into England. The UK government maintains the National Grid, which is like Nigeria's TSN Transmission, with a multitude of power generators and distributors providing the energy for industry and household needs.

Back to Nigeria, let each geographical region decide its own regional energy strategy, this should include refineries, electricity, solar and gas. I cannot see any reason why five states cannot pool their resources and invest in a regional electricity grid that can support their regional development, surplus electricity can then be sold to the national grid for profit. Kwara, Lagos, Akwa Ibom have already built state power stations.

you can see clearly that the suffering inflicted on us in the last 7yrs is a total waste if we are building generation without commensurate plan to transmit the power and distribute ,they have been deceiving us ,why put much into generation without investing in distribution and transmission so we use all we produced and not be dragging Benin and co to pay for light supplied on credit? is that a miscalculated investment, we should stop the aggressive generation and face distribution squarely its pointless

If I call you illiterate aboki out now, you will start complaining! After 7 years of change, our honest fula brothers have successfully reduced 6000 megawatts to less than 1000mw and you are here complaining about a man that has successfully financed a complete power system all as alone! His geometric power station in Abia state has a gas pipe line, powerplant, and a complete transmission and distribution architecture ...............you people should go rule yoursrelf in your jihadi paradise....annoying lot!

He was never a part of the problem, but Nigeria's cabal and GEJ's ineptitude couldn't let him stay and fix the sector.
Remember, a few months after he was sacked, GEJ sold the DISCOs to some extremely corrupt people who knows next to nothing about electricity.

Una don start with privatisation. Why are we quick to refer to privatisation instead of calling for transparency and accountability of our leaders. Since the privatisation policy was implemented. Over 400 public corporations have been privatised and less than 10% are still functional till this day. Does this look like a working model to you?

Privatisation will only worsen the living conditions of the common man. And it's unfortunate that the so called Enlightened folks are quick to support this with little or no understanding of the real issues.

Can you show me a single sector that the FG is involved in, that actually works? We have 4 refineries none working, yet once the Dangote plant opens, you will see the difference. When GSM licenses were first issued, MTEL the govt firm got a license. What happened to it? What of Nigeria Airways?
Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different result. The Nigeria experience has taught us clearly, that government can never run any productive sector.

In bold,
.Oyibo people who made mobile phones will not communicate with mobile phone when landline phone is available.

Pity some of you who think that telecommunications problems of Nigeria were solved with the arrival of mobile phones system of communication.

Dangote is not for the common man. Calling for privatisation is a lazy attempt at shying away from responsibility. We must hold our leaders accountable.

Dangote took over government owned cement companies and today we can barely afford to buy cement. The housing crisis that will face Nigeria in in the next few years will be a child's play. Despite the fact that he was given a huge tax holidays gets the raw materials at almost free. Lime stone @ #25 per ton. At some point made over #1Trillion and paid less than #12B as tax.

We must make our public operations to work. Because it works in other clime. Public corporation works in China, Brazil, Russia, Germany etc.

We sold PHCN and we didn't see any improvement. Last report claimed government didn't get a dime from the sale. This simply means we gave out national asset to few elites and they turned around and increased service charges with no improvement. We have paid for meters but still yet. And I guess this is same system we should maintain.

The military founded more than 500 public corporations. We have sold almost everything for pennies. Today less than 10% are still in operation. What happened to the rest? Unscrupulous business men closed them down and sold off their assets in connivance with our politicians.

The problem of Nigeria has nothing to do with government ownership of corporations. It's simply because of bad governance, vested interests. These are what must be taken care of before we can experience the Nigeria we will be proud of. Most of the facilities we're enjoying today was built by the military that had firm control of means of production. See how long it has taken civilian government to build 2nd Niger bridge, 4th mainland bridge etc

The only solution to the power problem is the total privatisation of the sector. We have seen this in the telecom sector, and soon in the oil and gas sector, when Dangote Refinery comes online. Govt should have role on the productive sector of the economy, other than regulation.

how is dangote refinery privatisation?
