You might expect gentle consoling words but ur making an illiterate out of yourself, first things first, start watching english programs on dstv, develop the interest, most that cant speak are people that will sit down and watch ibo epic or yoruba channel everytime.

My dear brother, I can deduce from your write up that writing and typing English are not your problem but what is causing you from speaking it out is low self esteem. You don't have boldness, you find it difficult to face crowd, more or less like an introvert person. Try to summon courage and start speaking English anywhere anyhow even to your tibal people, friends and colleagues

Who English help....

How many Chinese Engineers can speak fluent English....

Well if you intend to get proficient in English, then download Duolingo , Memrise or FluentU applications for Android and learn on your own at your leisure time

Ohh!! And which state Polytechnic uses "300 Level" as against HND1

.

Chinese is the official language in China, English is the official language in Nigeria. Dont use another person's yardstick to measure your life!

Help! I am about to finish my 300L stage in one of Nigeria state polytechnics but I am losing many opportunities due to my inability to speak fluently in English language. Although, I am good in typing/writing and I can compose my self in good English in my brain but it is very difficult whenever I open my mouth.
Any suggestion for improvement are welcome.

Listen to podcasts, watch lots of cartoons, English movies, use vocabulary apps to train yourself and you'd be fine.

You have Expressive Language Disorder... It's easier to correct in kids but harder in adults.

The best ways to improve your fluency in English are through reading of novels(not Nigerian o), seeing foreign movies and have friends that can speak it fluently. When reading novels, write down words (vocabularies) that you don't understand and check the dictionary for their meanings.....

If you can write, you can speak.

All you need is to stand in front of a big mirror rehearsing every day.

Yes, talk to yourself and build your confidence. Have a conversation with yourself standing in front of the mirror.

Do this for a few months and you will start seeing the positive results.

Good luck.

Brother I'll suggest you start watching YouTube talks and podcast especially those on politics. I believe that will help you a lot more than movies.

The ones I listen to are:
Dr. Jordan Peterson
Ben Shapiro
Matt Walsh
Candace Owens
Palki Sharma [Wion News Channel]

Will add more later

All those won't work effectively, he knows how to write good English already.

Only and only solution is to force himself to speak it always, from there, his spoken of English will improve.

Being fluent is an act, reading and movies only good for someone who want to improve his grammar, since he can write very well, that mean he is only afraid to speak in order not to make mistakes and be disgrace in public. Let him start speaking english( good or bad), he would eventually master the act of speaking. There is this local teenager a neighbour brought sometimes ago, you will be amazed how this girl speaks fluent english now like other kids( within 6 months).

Please watch international News like BBC, CNN, Aljazeera and Euronews. Watchtch their documentaries, interviews, conversations, reporting and discussions. Not only will your English be better, you will get the opportunity to learn sound phonetics and be able to pronounce words professionally.

Don't underestimate the importance of effective communication, both verbal and written in career progression. Use this opportunity now to develop it and sharpen your skills in that area. Your circumstances of birth or environment may have contributed to that but don't be discouraged. Our fathers lived in villages then but were able to develop their communication skills in English language effectively while in school.

All the very best.

A guy over here who was attending English classes was advised to watch cartoons. I've no idea if it worked or works but he was watching them.

Watching of cartoons actually works. If you listen to young native speakers, their own inflection is on another level. Inflection makes English speaking a joy to listen to....

No it is not, English is compulsory in Schools but Chinese (mandarin) is the official language. The Chinese man communicates with his fellow Chinese man in Chinese.

I applaud you for wanting to work on yourself. The English language is a foreign language and not indigenous to you so donot beat yourself up.

However listen to CNN everyday and repeat each word after the Newscaster.

In the GLORY days of NTA I will have suggested NTA 5 but now......

you are very daft if that is the conclusion you reached. Read my post again and tell me how you came to that conclusion. Again you highlight the problem with many Nigerians, a lack of English comprehension.
