I don’t know about Hardex. I use Mobil 5w 30. If you can afford Total, it’s also nice.
Reset button is to reset the driving time, miles, miles per gallon etc. depends on the one you want to be displayed on your dashboard..
do you have pictures of the total oil?

No I don’t but total oil is being sold in total filling stations… just ask for the one with 5w 30 , your engine should take 4L and 1L = 5liter total.
And also, I advise you download the Lexus manual pdf on the internet to have a better clarification of fluid types ( both engine oil and ATF) you should be using.

the brakepads, exhaust, shocks, radiator and battery are all in good shape. Even the tyres are in good shape. I changed the ATF cos it's black ish. There's coolant in th radiator and I used Hardex Gold engine oil(is it good?)

As for fuel economy, I don't really notice much difference from corolla. My first car was a corolla. One thing about the car that I like is that it's a smooth ride and balanced.

That mode and reset button on the steering, what is it for?

You didn't notice difference in fuel consumption from Corolla to Lexus?

First time I'm hearing this.

My Lexus consumes more fuel than the v4 Venza.

I buy 4k worth of fuel every week for my corolla. I do the same for the Lexus

Then your corolla fuel consumption is out of range. Lexus is supposed to consume more

Lol you are right. Nigerian used cars are the worse to buy. They are plagued with too many problem because of lack of maintenance and road side mechanic

Good day, everyone,

Please I need some expert opinion from pros and those with similar experience.

About a month ago, my 2009 Lexus ES 350 alarm goes off unprovoked. The key becomes ineffective and the alarm shuts off on its own after about 1-2minutes. I can only have access to the car manually because the key won't work at this time. When I turn on the car, it starts but here is the problem, when I switch it off, the fan goes off but the engine remains on with the dashboard lights staying on as well. To switch it off completely, I will have to disconnect the battery. When I reconnect the battery back, it remains the same, the car starts but won't switch off completely. By now, the key starts working.

I called my rewire who came a day later to take the car for about 2 days. Mind you, when the rewire came, the car had returned to normal. When he returned the car, everything was fine until two nights ago when rain fell. The alarm goes off and the same thing happened.

On doing some research, I was only able to get information from a mechanic site that said such issues are caused by the 'body computer' technically referred to as the Body Control Module. That when the car is been washed or when rain falls, water may get into the body computer and it begins to display all the above-mentioned issues.

If you have had the issue before, how did you resolve it and for the pros, how can I resolve it? Thank you for your responses.

I just got a Lexus E 330. (04) with 170k mileage.. I’ve not started using it cause I’m waiting registration and plate number.. though it’s a naija used but it’s clean…

What questions should I ask previous owner regarding the kind of oil he uses and how often does he service ..
this is my first car, pls assist with relevant informations

Thanks in advance

Congratulations!

Your vehicle needs 5W30 engine oil and, IMO, it might be unnecessary to ask the previous owner what he used. Simply buy an available and good engine oil, that meets that rating and run your change.

Oil change interval is 6 months or 5k miles, whichever is first.

However, you could extend that to 20k miles or a year, whichever is first with fluids such as M1 extended performance (with an accompanying filter for that purpose or you change filters halfway through).

What is the situations of:

1. The coolant reservoir. What is there?
2. How does the tranny fluid look like?
3. The power steering fluid?
4. The spark plugs, coils, throttle body, engine air filter and MAF?

Most Nigerian used vehicles are deficient in this regard, hence this checklist.

Tune up the vehicle, run your fluid changes, and you're sure to enjoy many years of pleasurable, reliable luxury.

Pls don't give car advice if you don't know what you're saying.
The type of oil the previous user uses and how long matters.
Do you want the op to introduce synthetic oil to a possibly sludged engine?
Op, you can check points 1 to 4 highlighted in addition to when the timing kit was last changed.
But definitely ask history of oil change.

Few Nigerians who sell their vehicles ever tell you the true state of things plus, often, asking isn't always an option for instance, vehicles used in Nigeria and traded in at lots fall into this category. Even the almighty toks we swear by do not have this info in their various VIN reports, so knowing beforehand for sure what oil was used is simply blind guess and bare trust.

The old trick of the trade is to open the valve cover(s) and take a first grade look (for that 3MZ since the flashlight trick isn't an option with that engine).

For vehicles that are sludge affected, a good (read: premium) engine flush comes to the rescue, not those sad Abro contrations that melt seals ohh!

This, in my opinion, is how it should be done. I did not want to overwhelm the new car owner with a lot of technicalities of owning a vehicle in Nigeria, especially a Nigerian used one.

The list of things to do after buying a used vehicle are many. That list quadruples with a Nigerian used car, sadly!

Make we no scare the new car owner, however.

Do I still sound like I don't know what I'm talking about? wink

Pls, this is highly discouraged. Don’t advice people to run extended OCI on engines which weren’t designed to run such.

Thanks

It is the engine oil (and oil filter) used that determines OCI, not an engine type. Any engine can run extended OCIs provided the right engine oil is used, in this case, M1 Extended Performance.

An engine can determine that in most case. FYI, 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE has high tendencies to sludge due to their PCV design.
