I just purchased a 2007 Lexus GX470 model from auction, with clean title. However my shipping agent confirmed the car was bringing heavy white smoke when they were moving it. As a result he has to containerised it down to Nigeria. Now I'm deeply worried on what awaits me when the vehicle arrive. Please can someone help a worried soul by recommending a great mechanic or potential solutions ahead for me? Please, I'm new here, so pardon any errors I may have made with my posting.

Start saving for a new engine, I would suspect vehicle was sent to auction, due to overheating and possible head gasket burn ...........

There can be some "un-disclosed problems" associated with "clean title" cars from auction. Most clean title cars at auctions are sold by private sellers and may not carry full disclosure. If you want clean title, better to go to a dealership although price will be about 100 percent more than auction. The issue is that Nigerians like clean title but want bargain prices. Accident cars with salvage title sold by insurance carry full disclosure of everything wrong with the vehicle and when properly fixed, it can be a good deal.
The smoke can be from a burnt gasket and shouldn't be difficult to fix but ensure the car is towed from the port to a very good mechanic and not driven. You may not need to buy a new engine but ensure you get a good specialist to fix it. It will cost some good money though but cheaper than buying a new engine.

Head gasket burn is not a big issue. Just replace the gasket and flattens the block if there is warp.

My suspect is that the engine is burning oil

It means a lot. You need to have your car checked and diagnosed by a competent technician with a high end diagnostic tool.

I know someone who bought a clear title certified preown car from a dealership in US and had it shipped down only for the car to start developing issues and when the engine was opened it was obvious the car had been reworked albeit in a shoddy manner abroad.

Lolz. You have not heard of oil burn? This is as a result of warn rings/engine block walls.

A sound mechanic could easily trace it. Ringing the engine is a major repair and needs a very good & experience mech for the job

Once a mechanic is already tempering with the engine, the engine is gone !!!!!

Why do you think car manufacturers, never ring engine...... They simply replace........

NOT always true Sir.

It’s much easier for a dealership to replace an engine with another engine because it’s cheaper and quicker.

Rebuilding an engine is a rigorous physical task which also takes time and may require long waiting time for parts to arrive.
Rebuilding an engine gives the technician opportunity to observe and detect worn out components and factory flaws in the manufacture of that engine and make amendments or use parts with higher degree of tolerance which will meet or usually exceed manufacturers specifications in the manufacture of that engine.

If a brand new engine from a crate cost $25,000, a rebuild using a much higher quality aftermarket components than the manufacturer actually used in building that engine may be $30,000-35,000 for parts and labour.

If a simple engine swap takes 10hours, a rebuild could take 70-120hours.

If an engine from manufacturer produces max 200hp and 210ib.ft brand new, a rebuilt engine from higher quality materials could be anywhere from 220hp 240ib.ft or even way more.

If factory manufactured engine have a lifespan of 10years, a properly rebuilt engine may last longer than that if components of higher tolerances and quality are used.

Those rigorous tasks, involves proper technical skills and training + with proper tools and machineries....... Which unfortunately, are all lacking...........

Those cowboy fixed engine's, are simply throwing good money at bad ..........

You need a technician to inspect and evaluate then you can proceed from there. The location of the car also matters

When I diagnosed, it's showing error code P0015 and P0017.

P0015- Camshaft position - Timing over Retarded Bank 1
P0017- Crankshaft position Camshaft position correlation Bank 1 sensor B.
Kindly assist.

I use same car. Very comfortable and cool. But you go buy fuel o. It doesn’t have a good fuel economy, I only drive when necessary when I have somewhere to go.
1. Check your break pads.
2. Check exhaust leakages due to age.
3. Radiator leakages due to age.
4. Chang your engine oil 5w 30
5. Drive around , check for sounds , you might need to replace shock/suspension
6. Buy coolant for radiator .
7. Check the level of transmission ATF. And steering oil ATF.
8. Change your battery if it isn’t néw.

Enjoy your ride!

the brakepads, exhaust, shocks, radiator and battery are all in good shape. Even the tyres are in good shape. I changed the ATF cos it's black ish. There's coolant in th radiator and I used Hardex Gold engine oil(is it good?)

As for fuel economy, I don't really notice much difference from corolla. My first car was a corolla. One thing about the car that I like is that it's a smooth ride and balanced.

That mode and reset button on the steering, what is it for?

I don’t know about Hardex. I use Mobil 5w 30. If you can afford Total, it’s also nice.
Reset button is to reset the driving time, miles, miles per gallon etc. depends on the one you want to be displayed on your dashboard..
