Have you asked what the price range of these cars cost at auction, what the exchange rate of the naira to dollar, how about the constant increase in towing and ocean freight, how about customs duties that's crazy, how about repairs when it lands in Nigeria and other exigencies, how about profit. These are the factors that makes these cars really expensive not peculiar to TOYOTA CARS alone. Mind you, our naira is useless $ to Naira is N600 and sometimes it's really difficult to get. So what can a dealer do? I tell you at that N3m no dealer can make 200k on a 2005-2007 Corolla except the car is already a junk
Now that it's on FP let me break this down
Auction price+ Auction Charges= $3000
Average Towing fee depending on location= $600
Ocean freight= $1,250
Clearing = N550k
Repairs and other exigencies = 100k
Total $ cost = $4,850 × 600 = 2,910,000
Clearing = 550,000
Repairs/ contingencies = 100,000
Profit = 150,000
Total = 3,710,000
Now the culprit here is the "Naira"
This submission is just a picture of the verge cost of getting a good car that's without so much accident. Corolla at auction are quite expensive

Corrola is a glorified shitbox for broke people who want to save money and skip maintenance. They want a car they can abuse and still sell it to the next idiot. It doesn’t even save fuel like people think. My Lexus with V6 engine saves more fuel than my dads corrola, I even use AC all the time but he doesn’t.

My service oil cost 7500 then I buy oil filter 1000 and pay 1500 to my mechanic. That's the service. And if I want to change the gearbox oil, I spend 3000 for it. All in all, I spend roughly 13k every 2month. That's just it. Is that too expensive?

Apart from the stupid mentality that it's not consuming fuel(which is a lie) there is nothing special about that car. My V4 Honda Accord save more fuel than that Corolla.

I drive both so I know what I am talking about.

If only you understand the components of a car, then you will know that all cars can withstand any drive terrain. Peugeot engine is far more rugged than a Toyota. Go up north and see for yourself. Just say in the west where you are, Toyota has overshadowed every other car. 307 can and will deliver better service for bolt and Uber than your Toyota.

I own a Peugeot 307 and I tell for a fact that corrola doesn't come close to it. In terms of fuel economy, availability of spare parts, the 307 is top much. Nigerians are just wired to Corolla because of how they abuse vehicle. Every car is good. Maintenance is key to enjoying a car. I even laugh more when people compare Toyota to Peugeot 406. Have you asked yourself why they use 406 as pilot 1 for long distance journey? Enough of this Corolla madness.

I feel you! My thoughts exactly .I drive a bmw. I'm on my 7th one since 2002. I currently have a turbo charged 328i m sport . Every car has its advantages because they're not all built for exactly the same purpose so it amazes me when corolla owners compare their go carts with mercedes, bmw, etc. My girlfriend has a corolla and one day she said that her corolla is stronger than my bmw simply because I slow down on bad roads because the one I have is the sports trim and its lower than the normal ones. I laughed and told her not to say what she just said in public. The other day I was driving her corolla and I wanted to overtake another car but was unable to because for a moment I forgot that the corolla is not like bmw. With my bmw if you just tap the accelerator lightly the car surges forward like a raging beast! With the corolla I still couldn't get that even when I pressed hard on the pedal ! The driving experience is not the same but apart from the performance there's also the safety aspect . A bmw owner I know crashed while doing 180 km and nothing happened to him! If he was driving a corolla he would have died! Corolla owners don't even understand what performance in a car means because they've never experienced it so they have no idea what they're missing . However ,with greater performance comes greater cost. My water pump costs 180k,the lights cost 100k. The water pump for a corolla costs 25k while the headlights cost about 30k. At the end of the day the lower cost of maintenance plus bandwagon mentality is the reason why many people buy corolla not because its a superior product .

Don't be short-sited. Though I don't use Corrola because of the balance at high speed but Corrola is to the world not Nigeria alone because it tolerate any type and kind of abuse.

POS operations has been a blessing to many Nigerians in many ways to both operators and their customers. From my house to the nearest bank is 20mins drive and 40mins for to and fro if their is no traffic congestions and the machines will still tell me 'Unable to dispense cash' after several trials when I can only add #100 to every 5000 I am collecting at the gate of my street!
If something doesn't benefit you, it doesn't mean others are not benefiting immensely from it.

A friend gave me the task of getting a Tokumbo Corolla for him and I have been on it for few weeks now. In this assignment I've come to realize that Corolla is now more expensive than the following vehicles:

Toyota Camry
Toyota Highlander
Acura MDX
Nissan Pathfinder
Honda Accord

It's just crazy!!! How can I pay over 3 million naira for a 2003 Corolla? How? I've told him I won't continue in the quest unless he makes another choice.

But why are people so in love with Corolla? I know that the car is strong and reliable, but it's definitely not the only strong and reliable car out there. When we were still in school, whether you scored 70% or 100%, it is "A". So if Toyota Corolla is good at 100%, there are still others that are good at 90%; both are good.

In place of Corolla, we still have Honda Civic, Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Nissan Sentra, Camry, accord etc. They may not be as good as Corolla, but they are definitely not too bad. My opinion
