Me too. I have a 1.4 million naira a month job but i want to Japa to Lebanon because Nigeria is a shithole. I will rather hawk puffpuff in the middle east sun than stay in an air conditoned house in Nigeria.

You said and I quote, "I no get any exceptional skill, I be sales man ooo."

Because of this, I would seriously advise against it. Especially as you are with a large family already.

With all the info you've given, then it's best you remain in Nigeria, because it'd take a number of years to get that big boy lifestyle you're enjoying in Nigeria abroad. If you're going with 4kids, the cost of child care is going to be significantly higher that whatever it is you're paying in Nigeria at present.
Yes, though the student route is easiest, not all translate to permanent residency after school, so that level of uncertainty is there. You must open your mind to the possibility of packing sh*t, mopping floors, and doing other manual labour, you wouldn't have a choice anyways, esp with 4kids, moreso, with your limited number of work hours as a student, things will be initially rough, and madam will need to hustle too to balance the equation.
If you're ready to bend and endure the temporary pains though, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
PS: Before they deceive you that they're earning 2Million in a month, ask them what their tax, rent and insurance etc is first.

OP: This was a very realistic, detailed, and honest feedback from someone who understands how things work abroad. Take his suggestion.

Honestly it is 50/50 to travel, why because your children are involved, for young couple, Canada is likely the best, it will be tough in the first or two years if you traveled with your family.

Any young couple or young man should japa from Nigeria pls, life is tough everywhere, but abroad give one more comfort and opportunities, the life in Naija is too hostile for human being and the political situation is another thing, no to talk about education of the children, ASUU is on strike till now anyway hmmmmmmm My family and I visited last Christmas season and it was something else, the generator could not carry the AC, the Inverter was not working well, everywhere was just so disorganized, noises all around and every one in a hurry. I remained in our estate most of the time because going out was something else for me.

Abroad is far better than Naija oooo from my experience. It might be toughed initially but at the long run, it is far better. Your children will have better future than Naija where our politician has borrowed the future of our children.

Above us pray to God, discuss with your family and follow your heart.

What kind of life do you think 600k will give you in Nigeria as a married man with 4 kids. I earn more than that as a single person and I am just managing. That money isn't worth shit in today's Nigeria especially if you live in the big cities and 4 kids.
You earn more than 600k in Nigeria and you are single yet you open your mouth to say that you are managing?

There's no place that is easy.. My immediate brother had it rough when he got to UK and he spent over 11 years before getting a resident permit and I also have a friend who traveled in 2018 and he already has a resident permit, destiny defers but in all Nigeria is not for the average man, my advice is japa to the uk but don't stay in London cos this areas are over populated and the cost of living is high, my bro was paying €400 for a room self con but he is paying same amount for 2 bedroom flat in Belfast

@OP I didn't want to contribute, but I hope you don't make the biggest mistake of your life.

I saw someone saying Nigerians are debtors and they crying about bills why the whites don't. The confidence in the ignorance is alarming.

The whole western society is built on debt.
In the UK here, the phone you own, car you own, house you own are all on credit, they are not yours.

You have to ask yourself some very important questions
At the moment with your salary does it give you a good Standard of Living, don't loose it searching for something that does not exist.

You have 4 kids, you would need childcare, have you googled how much it cost per child. You can't leave them in the house thinking they can manage themselves. The day the government finds out, they will take all of them from you. Let me tell you straight off, except if your wife earns a high income, she would have to stay home. By the time you calculate the childcare cost, most times it doesn't make financial sense to pay for it.

Now you have 4 kids, definitely you want a 2 bed house, not the 2 bed house with a store room they call a single bed room and a small sized room that they call standard double bed.
Google rightmove and zoopla that would give you an idea of the house prices

i will advise you as a friend/brother will and then as an enemy.as a friend / brother i will say you are the most unqualified candidate to go abroad. you have 4 kids ? which in itself is not a problem if your name is dangote or otedola but for you ? its a burden that will sink you abroad. secondly you dont have any marketable skillset. and so you are most defnitely going to be doing manual labor or security work. so the question is what right thinking person leaves 600k per month to go and be doing manual labor abroad. i would even go as far as to say you are not even qualified to have a 600k job in nigeria because you said you are a salesperson so basically you are just one lucky bastard ( british slang ) and if i were you i would hold on tight to that job because there are 200 million people who want that job.

back to the abroad thing, someone told you he is making 2 million a month dong security work but did that low iq deceptive guy tell you what the cost of living is ? lets see so 2 million is 2600 pounds a month. thats 650 pounds a week. rent is 250 pounds a week, council tax is 30 pounds, water 50, light 40, tv license 30, feeding of 6 people is like 150 pounds a week, clothes for 6 people is like 300 pounds a week, internet 40 pounds a week, phone line is like 30 pounds a week, with 4 kids you need a car, car insurance is like 40 a week, gas like 40, road tax like 20, mot like 10, so when i add up all these expenses they come to 1030 pounds a week and so you can see that earning 650 pounds a week will not cover your expenses. someone like yu will have to earn 5000 pounds a month in the uk to survive ( thats 4million naira a month you have to earn ) and so your low iq friend is not telling you that the 2 million per month is too small. he is hoping you would think you are living for free with no expenses and all the 2 million is take home..and that is the reality of your situation

conlusion > you are hghly unqualified to go abroad unless you dont mind a life of misery and suffering and manual labor and council estates Where your kids would be beaten up by jamaican thugs everyday. YU BETER HOLD ONTO YOUR 600K JOB

NOW THE ADVICE ABOVE WOULD BE FOR A FRIEND OR BROTHER BUT TO AN ENEMY I WOULD SAY JAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. GO TO THE UK. YOU WILL ENJOY YA LIFE cheesy cheesy

Let me give you an advise.
Japa becomes easier and recommended IF,
1) You are young, aged 35 years and under.
2) Unmarried, especially as a male. For a female, you have to be very young, else, getting married will be another story.
3) If you are married, please have a small family. Because for everything you will need for your documentation, you will multiply it by the number of heads you have.
4) If you are in a STEM course, especially engineering, medicine, medical sciences, statistics, mathematics, etc.
5) If you have some savings on you to start life.
6) If you have a trustworthy, honest, supportive friend abroad too, it helps.
7) If you are a honest, genuine person.

Better watch it. #2million is just a little above USD $3,000. Somebody earning #600k in Nigeria is better than somebody earning USD $3,000 abroad. House rent and other utility bills will take more than ⅔ of your earning abroad. With what you currently earn, you may double or triple it in about a year and your children bills will not come easy abroad

I would not recommend this idea, especially not the UK. The monthly salary in pounds when converted to naira might seem to be a lot but the tax rate in Uk is very high, as high as 40%. Let’s use your salary in Nigeria for example, N605,000. I’m sure that after all deductions are made, your take home is at least N550,000. However, in the UK and at 40% tax rate you’ll be left with N363,000. Rent is paid monthly not yearly and the bills are paid monthly not yearly. You have it going well for you already. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Finally before you make such a big move, given that you’re a married man with children, try visiting the Uk first to check out things by yourself. If you’re ok with what you see and you decide to move, then you’ve made an informed decision.

Thanks, Guys

If.you have the needed skill, you will thrive....but if you go and study all those courses that might not too much job opening abroad, you will suffer like your colleagues..

..there are former Bank managers in Nigeria after relocating abroad, they have no choice but to be doing laborer or carer job....
But if you are exceptionally good at IT related field, you will live large here...
And also, all boiled down to the spirit that left with you to abroad...there are some people here that they didn't study relevant courses but was fortunate to get a good job and also get promoted ..and within some few months of working....they have their permanent residence permit..
So, ask your God if you should go or stay put. Because with 600k in Naija monthly, you are a big boy but your 600k in abroad is in the range of strugglers..
Call on your God first, for direction...

IN THE ABROAD, for most people, it gets a bit rough before it gets better. I like the fact that you know yourself and you should stay true to yourself. I for say make u remove Germany from that your list first....and I think with how you have described your personality and family profile, just go for Canada or Australia PR....the money u will be eligible to make as a student isn't so much, that's why most students end up augmenting with menial jobs...

To answer this question, you must answer this first. Why do you want to japa?

1.) Is it for economic reasons?
2.) Are you leaving ahead of time incase a war does break out? Which it almost certainly can considering how volatile the polity is.
3.) Are you leaving to experience human dignity and a better living condition for yourself, your wife and especially your children?

For someone who earns 600k in Nigeria, I would infer and say I don't think you are leaving for economic reasons. True, it may be partly the reason, but that is not the primary reason.

Having said that, that leaves us with question 2 & 3. I'll stake a limb here and also infer that you have considered that Nigeria's volatility may devolve into war and now would be the best time to move your family out before it becomes too late. It's an open secret that Nigeria is a failed state and promises very little for our children so getting them out of this sinking titanic while we still have the means may be a factor in why you want to japa.

Finally, you may have considered what it feels like living like a human with basic amenities that afford you dignity.

If the economy is not your biggest reason for leaving, then you may need to look beyond the temporary menial jobs you may have to do when you get there. The system abroad works. You wouldn't do a menial job forever. You would have escaped from a war prone country to one approximating stability. Your children would have a real shot at life. Emergency health crisis, the scare of kidnapping for being well-off, would no longer steal your sleep.

Make your decision without emotions. Don't allow anyone sway you either way.

My 2cents

Edit: don't ever sell yourself short. Youbjave the greatest skill you will ever need to survive. Especially if you are of an entrepreneurial bent. You know how to sell. Forget STEM skills. The ability to sell is the most important skill that will never be obsolete. You can survive with that skill anywhere.

How can you be a salesperson and claim you don't have exceptional skill? The hardest thing in the world is selling. Whoever can sell will always find work wherever he is!

if you have in demand skills and get an employer why not. Two auditors where i used to work in Nigeria got job offers in an audit firm in usa and have moved this year. IT, nursing, usually get jobs abroad easily
I'm in IT.
Please do you know the procedures I'll need on my end?

Pls check out that video I mentioned, but most importantly read the comments, before you finally decide. It is very eye opening.

One troublesome nairalander claimed Africans in the diaspora were lying, but how can Africans from different countries, living in different locations all be lying about the same thing? Na plan?

Don't worry he may soon land here, he likes japa threads and believes Naija is a shithole grin. By his posts you will know him.

It is not that Africans in disapora were lying. The fact is when those in diaspora mentioned how hard it is but people home never took them serious nor believed them.

The people you talked to are not lying, more and more Nigerians are starting to open up about life in the diaspora and being truthful about their experiences.

A neighbour who works with Mobil and has relocated his family of 4 (wife & 3 kids) to Canada told me life is not as rosy as we think and it's really tough overseas. But our people like to lie and pretend about these things.

Does it make sense to leave a good paying job for a menial one like some of your friends are doing? I don't care how much it pays, you don't need a soul sucking job that pays XYZ amount before you can live a good life. You get the money and end up with other issues like depression, health hazards etc

I have heard of a 50 something year old Nigerian man who works in a factory over there, he suffers from back pain and all, but he can't quit. He has to keep grinding because they took out a mortgage on their house, him and wifey are still working to pay off. I can't recall the exact age I was told but it was something close to our retirement age in Naija. If they were here, chances are, he would have built his house and been able to retire from active duty by now.

Before you japa watch a YouTube video of Wode Maya & Juliet (search for it on Youtube) to help you make an informed decision. Take your time to read the comments that follow as well, it is African diasporans sharing their truth and experiences.
I saw that wode Maya is a channel on its own then I searched wode Maya and Juliet but saw several channels relating to only Wode Maya. Please can you help with any link as regards the one you mentioned?

There is nothing misleading about it. Someone has shared a personal experience about her life and time in the UK. It is left for people to make of it, what they want. They can use the info or her experience to help them make an informed decision on their japa plans and destinations.

You can watch it, then decide to stay back, move or reroute your destination. The choice and final decision always lies with an individual and the OP is seeking other people's views on his japa plans. I only pointed him to views of people with actual diaspora experience, how many of us commenting here have lived abroad? I haven't o, so let me direct him to those who have.

And when you say few individuals, I wonder if you read most of the comments below her video. I didn't listen to Juliet's tale alone, I read other people's views and experiences too. But make I rest, I am not here to argue on someone's thread, just passing on info and sharing knowledge.

Op, these are they kind of people that would discourage you from leaving the slum, those that havnt even left the shore of Nigeria before. They are too quick to share people bad experience abroad, but they would never tell you about those that have made it.

Everyone's experience is unique. For instance you can expect someone who has no skill to travel out and make it all of a sudden. You would need to work hard and upgrade your skill. If you know you aren't ready to work, you can aswell stay back. But if you are looking for where your hardwork would be rewarded then you can take the chance. I believe with the level youv gottent to in Nigeria, based on your salary, there is a good chance you would get a job in the Uk that would be willing to sponsor you.

Those complaining about menial jobs in the Uk are those that are jobless and doing menial jobs in Nigeria. They rather stay lazy in Nigeria and beg people doing menial jobs abroad for money than to work.

You might be very comfortable in Nigeria, but this is Nigeria, anything can happen, and very quickly.

All the best.
