Please how true is this assertion?

It does not, what it does is to enhance proper combustion thereby normalizing fuel consumption to the standard set by vehicle manufacturer.

Catalytic Converter reduces harmful emission such as hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide through redox reaction but DOESN'T reduce fuel consumption.

What reduces fuel consumption are; OEM standard for tyre air pressure, apply brake carefully, good 02 sensors, quality oil for engine maintenance, quality fuel, don't idle too long, don't throttle carelessly, When vehicle is on top speed, use AC, don't keep too much loads on your boot, don't drive too slow or too fast(with windows down) Etc...

I once bought an Honda EOD,very clean and cheap,it was sounding like a sport car.would buy 4k fuel and it would finish within 2 days and I didn’t go far….they told me they had eaten the akara of the car.akara is the street name for catalyst…I bought another around 35k and it fuel consumption went back to normal…..panelbeater plenty for police station accused of stealing that stuff

The simple answer is no.
What it reduces is the emission of carbon monoxide which is harmful to the environment. It does so through a process of conversion of the carbon monoxide to another compound which I don't know now. That's why it's called a catalytic converter. I usually laugh when my mechanic tells me, my increased fuel consumption is from my catalytic converter(indomie).

14yrs of driving, currently own 3 cars, and somehow I am just coming across the word catalytic converter!!!

So I thought to myself, How is this even possible.......I had to run to Google..

And realized that it's because I have never had issues with my exhaust in any of my cars..

Thieves in PH garage cut my own and welded the exhaust back. It was later I discovered. I doubt if there is any difference in the fuel consumption.
