SARSCoV2:Same way you can’t judge Nigeria based of what’s going on in Boko haram regions only. |

MadamVanessa:You are the one writing rubbish. She is a 19 year old girl narrating her own story and still planning to give back to help others who may come with the cluelessness she came with. What is your own story? |

ameh99:What things? Minimum wage in Chicago is $15/hr while in Naija is $45/month. What u make in 3hrs in Chicago is what you make in a month in Naija. Also, if you’re traveling to hustle dont go with ur whole family.. let the man go first, get settled and then bring the whole family. |

BigIyanga:South Chicago is a poverty, gang and car jacking enclave. Its summer already and all hell will be let lose. Very few sane people reside in hat axis. No single week passes without someone being shot to death. This week alone Brandon Foley Bruce O`Neal Rashaun Johnson Fred Boerma Anthony Allen Antonio Wade All shot to death And more people will be shot to death this week. Its a constant. |

nabeelbabs:Those African Americans you alluded to do not want to work or look down at most jobs as shitty and too low for them to do. I am an African-African working through an agency because I haven't gotten the docs to work direct yet and I turn down jobs to take a rest and still make good money in a month. |

lionlee216:You are right though there is a caveat. The likes of Chicago, Philly, and Baltimore are well known for drugs and killings. I mean daily gun shots, however, if you live in some areas you might not hear about those shootings at all. Can we compare to Nigeria, it all depends on your clique. We have folks that cant live outside of Nigeria for more than 2 weeks. They live well and do have access to almost everything in Nigeria. In conclusion, if you are young and ambitious, please japa. As long as we have the likes of BAT, Atiku, Buhari and his cohorts ruling us, we dont stand a chance. Just my one cent. |

ameh99:Tankio.. if you come as illegal or out of status, it will get worse before it gets better. But in Chicago, if you can stand the cold, you can survive. Day labourers make $200/day.. go to the businesses like Lowes, Home Depot and Uhaul to look for people to help..just hustle.. Police wont say nothing to u.. unlike in some other states and cities. |

salbis:While what you say is true I really want more Nigerians to leave. The truth is that most Nigerians are the problem with Nigeria. They hate themselves and their own home more than anybody outside. Their behavior on a daily basis is proof that they are the problem and thus when they leave I am grateful. Look at the foolish comments in this thread. Someone has reported the truth of life in America and people who haven't been beyond the border of their village are abusing her. Nigerians do not want to hear the truth that they need to work on building their own home. They'd rather piggy back on someone else's hardwork. Even the relatively small chore of holding their own useless leaders to account is too much for them. Let them go abroad and suffer if that is their desire. |

No be Obama be that for that photo? Mumu pikin! As if she could ever get close to Buhari's car back home. ![]() All the nonsense written up there is typical of a black teenager in Mid Western parts of America. I lived in different parts of Illinois, including Chicago, for 3 years, so I sabi their ways. She has only stayed for 5 years and has allowed those entitled and bitter akata kids destroy her mentality. Shame! She claimed the American dream hardly exists for minority. Yet she is clawing her way to University of Chicago medical school. If only you sabi the reputation of University of Chicago worldwide, then you would understand that America has helped her dream big and kept her dream intact. It would be easier for a camel to slide through the eye of a needle than for her to get a chance into Uchicago medical prog from Ibadan. I bet you, this girl is already a nightmare to her Nigerian parents. She would have rubbished all of their efforts to get her a better life. Na so these spoilt naija teenagers dey do. Once they get into this place and discover their parents can't touch them, they develop wings and become defiant to all authorities. They see nothing good again, and complain at the slightest thing. Even in Universities, they will drop their medical and tech majors, and start pursuing courses with racial titles. They blame the system for their inadequacies and colorize every single thing. Her type no dey get sense. Yoruba say, "pikin wey dey blame him parents say them no get money. Hin sef don begin hin life journey, make we dey watch." Make una ignore the idiot. American Universities don fund my Masters and my PhD programs. I'm grateful to God. Every resource spent on Japa moves is well worth it. Na who give up, eff up! |

Chicago south side is like mushin in Lagos or Alaka in warri crime left right and center but the good news is once you are not affiliated to gang or wearing rolex watch or some other expensive jewelries you don't have anything to fear. |

Gbabe2:What access do you have in Naija? Can you get portable drinking water from ur tap? Can you get emergency services like police, fire and EMS come to your rescue in 10mins? Can average Naija with N1m/mon afford 2 sessions of kidney dialysis on 50/visit in a wk- ie N400K/mon. Can you send your kids to free govt funded primary-sec schools? |

MadamVanessa:Everything that girl wrote up there is not a lie, except you want to ignore the truth and choose to attack her. That area she grew up is a poverty and murder enclave. Immigrants are not even in the frontlines of crime committed in that area. Its citizens against citizens. And its a good write-up to educate people about neighborhoods they should stay away from irrespective of the cheap rent. |

MadamVanessa:It is wrong to criticize this young lady and her experiences. Yes I totally agree with her on the myth called American Dream. She has every right to tell her story and she should be commended for telling it. Those of you who are demeaning her experience and story are all propagators of white supremacy and colonialism. What makes a country great is learning from the errors of the past and there is no way for America to learn and grow without people like her telling their stories. When those of you that are criticizing her are the same people collecting bags of money to sell your souls and future to politicians, until you refuse the bribes, then Nigeria will remain a shit hole. Use her story to demand change from your politicians and do not sell out for bags of rice and N500. Nigeria used to be a beacon for Africa before our politicians destroyed it while at the same time, they are securing the future of their children with anchor citizenship in America, Europe and other far away places. |
