I finally wrote my first article on Emacs.
I spoke to a senior software developer, he told me I may never have to use Emacs, do you know any real world settings where we have to use EMACS and Vi in development?

Wow thanks.

Are the tutorials text based or they are videos?

Thanks.

Text based, with room for practise

Emacs are used to write scripts and mostly used by DevOps. That is why I emphasize that whoever finish this program and graduate with all these skills and projects. There would be great opportunities because you can work in different roles, SE engineer, DevOp engineer, Data engineer, backend developer... The opportunities are much.

Bro is it possible to be enrolled in two programs at the same time
for instance SOFTWARE ENGINEERING(ALX) and DATA ANALYTICS(ALX in partnership with UDACITY)

I am well versed in the two field, just want to challenge myself further and add few certificate, i would be able to cope easily with both.

But is it allowed?
I know it's allowed to applied for the two but keeping up is what I don't know cus it will amount to a combined hrs of close to 30 in a day. I applied for data science last week or so, I was given a test on python and sql and was told to wait and get a feed back of 12th of July. I applied for the SE yesterday which they didn't test me just some few forms to fill and this morning I received a email that I have been selected. I have been on this thread since morning reading all the posts and the contents here have been very helpful. Kudos to those that are providing guidance,we rise by lifting others

Seems like you didn't merge the branch or rather, your work didn't merge. Drop your WhatsApp number, let's chat. By the way, you're over the deadline.

If you don't do well in the onboarding or finish all the projects in the onboarding weeks, will you be allowed to continue into the one month probation sprint?

Re: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6: 7:37pm On Jun 18, 2022
Guys

This message is for all alx students irrespective of your cohort!

Today I noticed a lot of people have been evicted and their account disabled.

My account was also disabled, I will drop pictures now. But the account that was disabled is my former Cohort account (7th cohort) but I'm currently in the 8th cohort so I'm safe.

Here's the thing, even if you have gone far like 5 to 6 months but then you relax and your grades start dropping, you will be evicted! Being in the program strongly depends on your grade.

Today I spoke with many people, some whose account were disabled for not reaching the 80% score. One of them spoke about going for a Udemy course, although I tried to persuade him to re-register but then that depends on him.

Another guy, who is combining alx program with Zuri (Zuri is similar to alx, like a bootcamp different stacks). Guys guys guys please.... If you are trying to combine alx and other bootcamp program, take it from me, you won't make it past the first month! I asked the guy why he was going through that stress and he said because he needs Zuri certificate tongue

I don't even know how to reply to that response cause, Hello!!!!! Have you seen ALX curriculum? I meant the actual curriculum on the daily activities? In just two weeks, you were made to learn emacs, git and GitHub, vi, shell
with projects for each of them and you want Zuri's certificate?

I have tried a lot of materials to be frank, from Udemy, Udacity, Coursera, Cs50, YouTube, W3school, freecodecamp... All these are great materials for any dedicated programmer but why don't you search for Software engineering curriculum in each of them, then you would know how generous and amazing ALX curriculum is.

Imagine graduating with all that skills from ALX curriculum? Being added to the room to help boost your network and job opportunities, putting out that GitHub with projects as evidence of your skills... I mean, am I the only one who sees this opportunity?

Do you know why, after about 30k students apply for the program, only about 3k usually graduate? Because a lot of them were indecisive! Trying to multitask like your brain is a machine, many couldn't keep up with the workload and projects, and you MUST do the projects or be removed, they say beginners can apply but if you apply as a beginner without preparation then you would get frustrated a lot.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO COMBINE ALX SE PROGRAM AND ANOTHER BOOTCAMP COURSE!!!! it's not! You will easily get drained mentally, forgetful because your brain is trying to process a lot at once, don't stress yourself. You won't have time to learn to make research aside from the materials being sent to you because of the many projects from alx.

ALX projects are no child play you can easily brush just to do another!

When we were told about 6 alx students who were hired by Amazon, I thought it was a bluff until David(who is currently working in Amazon as an software engineer) came to talk to us about his experience. He wouldn't have gotten there by trying to do two program at once. According to him, his was able to pass because...
- His peers (I acknowledge this, very important, asking people for help doesn't make you inferior to them, keep pride aside!)
- Always study ahead (That is why "planning" is part of your dashboard)

Please... If you're going for Alx SE program and you want to make it to the final stage. Get rid of that bootcamp course because certification with projects won't get you a job. Go to LinkedIn or just search on Google for Software engineering jobs and see the opportunities in that field.

You know another amazing thing about ALX curriculum, if you graduate with all that skill, you can work as a DevOp engineer, Data engineer, backend developer, frontend, full-stack. It is very EASY to apply but VERY difficult to reach the end. Yes! ALX is hard! Which is why you should go hard towards grabbing the opportunities before you.

the program is not easy o, almost did not reach the 80% cut-off mark but we made it through. if you are just getting started, download pdfs on bash/shell scripting, and c programming and make sure you read it
