The Federal Government is making plans to prosecute users of PolyChlorinated Biphenyl (PCBs), popularly known as transformer oil, in frying “akara” (bean cake), plantain chips, chicken and other food items.

The govt is still planning to....

Everything thing is in future continuous tense. Nothing on ground. Who Dem do arrest wey they wan prosecute?

The FG knows this ... and has done nothing about it? Why not prosecute the offenders instead of giving warnings and speech and history?

If that transformer oil is bn used,it would change the color and taste of the akara.

Lies from the pit of hell, someone will just sit in one archaic office somewhere and be fabricating nonsense.

1, A drum (200L) of used transformer oil is over 300k, that is about 1500 naira per litre, how much is a litre of unbranded vegetable oil? Then someone will now use an oil that is higher in value to spoil his/her oil that is cheaper. Does that make any sense?
I really wondered dat too ...via d high cost of transformer oil.

2,Virgin Transformer oil tastes very awful, so how can one now fry akara with the used one and the Akara will still taste good, if one even try to fry akara with an over used vegetable oil, the taste will be so bad that you might throw the Akara away not to talk of using transformer oil.

They mix transformer oil with vegetable oil so that the oil can last long.

Studies of PCBs in humans have found increased rates of melanomas, liver cancer, gall bladder cancer, biliary tract cancer, gastrointestinal tract cancer, and brain cancer, and may be linked to breast cancer.
If you are good in frying stuffs for food, you will notice that used vegetable oil doesn't taste really good when reused, the taste alone will deter you from doing that next time, and besides Transformer oil has this distinctive smell, so there is no way you cannot notice that awful smell and taste in any food prepared with it.

The prevailing unprecedented hardship across the land has hardened the hearts of most Nigerians who now device various crafty and inimical practices to keep body and soul together even at the detriment of fellow citizens.

In the present desperate attempt at survival, the scriptural doctrine of being one's brother's keeper sounds like a fairytale in the practical realm of reality.

The harmful effects of their evil activities and actions as they affect even the health of their own fellow citizens have no place in their mindset provided their bread is buttered.

Nigeria: Which Way?

No milk of human kindness anymore!

The problem is not even the buying but having a change of attitude as Nigerian. Imaging how do we explain the motive behind buying empty devon king oil, mamador gerrycans and the rest. These wicked people has a way of filling them with adulterated contents and push them back to the market. If you are very close to those selling palmoil in the market you would realise the level of atrocities been perpetrated by them how do you explain mixing the old blue Omo and colour with palm oil? This country just dey stand on one leg ooo

I thought so too. We should always apply logic before spreading news. More information is needed here to ascertain the correctness. How can such an expensive oil be used in frying Akara? Does it make the main oil last longer or multiplies the number of Akara fried?
My brother I tire oo, Some of all these our round pegs in square hole Professors will just throw up something without proper findings just to be in the news.

Bros may not be entirely lies. It may not be with akara, most likely with plantain chips.
The plantain chips will even be worse, just try to fry plantain chips with all these poorly processed red oil, you will surely hate the taste.

Oga say what you know. Now you are claiming to know more than the so called expert and?
You are claiming that a drum of used (condemed) transformer oil goes for over 300k, so why is it still very expensive when it has been used already?

Mind u, things are so so expensive now in this country. One ragolis bottle of groundnut oil now is above 1k. So anything is possible.

They mix the vegetable oils with the transformer oil, the oil contains a compound called PCB, Polychlorine Biphenyls, it has high temperature resistance, its odorless and doesnt degrade.

Beware of all those yellow vegetable oils that sell for cheap, they could have been mixed with the oil.

Dont trust those buns sellers too, if they have their way they can even use engine oils too.

Mogbe! Transformer oil. That's PCBs. A chemical that chat can cause so many health issues from cancer, hormonal inbalance, sterility issues, etc. I did my grad studies on bacteria that biodegrade this killer chemical. Go ask people in certain parts of the US what damage this chemical did to them.

Pcb is dangerous but it's a spit in the bucket compared to big business.
You guys should be more worried of the aspartame and high fructose corn syrup used by brewery PepsiCo and coca cola in making their drinks that has been going on for years. This is the real cause of onset diabetes, and type 2 diabetes.
Not forgetting sugar used in breads that makes one eat without getting fill you eat and eat without satisfaction.

Aspartame is a dangerous chemical.

Number 1 product that contains it is Nutri c.

Very harmful
