You see the problem is that many of these doctors have nothing upstairs and bring pride to the work place, they don’t know the ethics that govern their profession and are just lazy, they don’t want to do their job and are looking for who to slave off too, I don’t blame them fully, it’s a fault of the country as well, where we are uncivilized and uneducated or not fully educated on our roles and who we are. A lot of these docs are a bunch of hooligans and quacks, taught by quacks so u still can’t completely fault them. They are not taught that even discarding their waste could be the most important part of the procedure, save a life and endanger hundreds. They one way thinkers and do not have the capacity to think beyond what has been handed to over. A typical Nigerian is always looking for someone to enslave and the Bulk of nurses are women so ofcourse they want to take advantage of that. You don’t see them try this nonsense with other medical professionals that the bulk of them are males, so it comes down to what? *a mens world* of which a lot of them are scum and bless those that are civilized.

You think it’s easy to be a black man? What do black women face? Home and abroad. At least black men can behave however they like in their homes but u see women?

So most of these things boils down to poor upbringing too that feeds into the professional world too.

If u docs are tired go abroad first let me check something lol
my dear, at this point you are talking like someone bitten by a mad dog. Drop your phone and cool off a little.

What the nurse did was totally wrong and should be punished. It was not her role to enforce clean up.

Hope you are not the nurse sha undecided undecided

Doctors have some responsibility in disposing biohazardous material
Why should someone be employed to "clean up after doctors"
Is anyone employed to wipe people's asses when they use toilets?
If you use a face mask you should dispose it yourself. If you use sharps you should discard appropriately.
I am not commenting on the incident above because I do not think we have all the facts but employing cleaner to clean up after doctors is a bizarre suggestion
Disposal of biohazardous material is a serious matter with all round responsibility and doctors have a key role in this effort; not leaving biological/hazardous material about creating risks to other staff and patients

Pls get sence... every job has it specifications. Its not a doctors job to clean after any procedure. There are cleaners in every cooperate organization . Schools, banks, hospitals ...... name it.
So stop typing without your head.

Fear Nigerian nurses oh. Most went to school, but school did not pass through them. They took the learning and not the character. Them don shout for me shege, I fear them pass police. One just dey shout on my pregnant sister. "If you don't push, I will push you!". One sent me out of GOPD, for not bringing my reg card out swiftly. "Oga if you cannot provide your card move out!" At least she added oga to it.

Doctors on the other hand can form too. You can't be a boss to another professional, it not done. Do your job and let others do their job. You can't be raising shoulder to patients, who should ideally be the boss. Even house officer, that does not know the full treatment of conditions self or how to take blood sample yet, go still dey worry.

Dentists are the worst, they never support Medical doctors until it's time to contest for CMD, NMA chairman or wage increase.

So in other words , doctors are meant to clear clinical instruments used after surgery and then the cleaners come in afterwards to clean other regular dirts right ?

When doctors clear the instruments used, the nurses washes them then sends them to a place for sterilisation. The nurses makes sure the surface of any equipment is cleaned thoroughly

The duty of the cleaners is to clean the floor, they have nothing to do with the instruments or blood stains on any surface in the theatre
Then they also carry the contents of the bin to where it should be

Not surprised. There is an age long battle of supremacy between senior nurses(Matrons) and doctors, especially young doctors. I have witnessed it before. The nurse was so insecure ( all of them are when they see young doctors) and was raining insults at the young dude and telling him of how many years she has spent on the job. The doctor was just quiet and continued with his job. They are also always contending with doctors when it comes to pay grades.

Will you keep quiet, you uncouth individual.

Go and study international standard practice in nursing and medical practitioner, then you can come back and talk to me.

That d doctors are helping out, which is okay, doesn't make it standard.

And where did I tell you I was a doctor? I am very convinced you need that education more than anyone. Vote Obi, he'll take care of that for you .

Oh I see .. but I feel auxiliary nurses should rather be the ones doing the cleaning and not the doctors who would have been exhausted after performing tasking surgeries .

We all know it's Naija where anything goes.
Firstly, the doctor has a duty to check that all medical and support staff are in place before commencement of surgery, but those wings might probably be on strike.
And there is an unending battle between resident doctors/consultants and matrons.
Even at that, there are channels of seeking redress

Honestly, tired of hearing that line, assistant..
dora7891:

That’s not team work, team work is in relation to the care of the patient and not making excuse for a medical negligence. A nurse is not a doctors assistant, is a pharmacist a doctors assistant? Because they work in closest contact than other healthcare professionals doesn’t mean u and anyone else should blur the job description of a nurse. The only nurse u will say doing such are those in private hospitals employed by doctors and quacks, trained by doctors

You don’t see a doctor coming to help a nurse to clean up after she has doing a procedure such as wound dressing do u? Do u see a physiotherapist help a doc to clean up his mess?

Or should nurses also help the doc to clean his ass after he has use the toilet.

She should write NCLEX, relocate to the US and do such. That will be the end of her life & not just her career!

They are ahead of the nurses and will forever be. A nurse is supposed to work under the supervision of a Doctor. A Nurse is not an independent practitioner. A Doctor is your indirect boss whether you like it or not. Even in cadre level a freshly licensed Doctor starts from grade level 10, while a fresh graduate nurse starts from grade level 6 or 7.

I don't get this. Is the surgeon not supposed to be above the nurse by rank and status? Is a surgeon even supposed to clean up after an operation, no cleaning staffs in the hospital? And even if there no cleaning staffs what about the surgeon assistants and the other nurses? Then lastly does that nurse realized that holding someone against their will is a crime?
I've so many questions but the simple answer to all of this is- Nigeria mentality.
