Sandbox

Though some people prefer using their terminal or bash editor. But if you're not using the sandbox, you will have to link your sandbox to your terminal or the editor you chose to use.

I prefer the sandbox because I just go in, do the projects and review them to checkers.

Note: If the checkers fail you, you have to go back and check what we're doing wrong until you get it.

If you ignore the checker that grades your project, it is same thing as failing the project.
in this case can't u use ur code editor to run the program and make sure it's error free the copy and paste on the sandbox? Or if the sandbox does no accept copy and past then one can type it in exactly as it is in the editor

Thank you for the initiative @ Anonymous6o6. I have sent an email to the email address provided.
Anonymous6o6:

Alright

Guys starting on August, if you're interested, send your WhatsApp number to this email

He will add you to a group, I will also be in that group dropping materials being sent to us by ALX and also dropping pictures of the projects so you can make attempts

That way, if you fully start, nothing will be too difficult for you.

Please don't drop your number here, please.

Lol
If only it was that easy
Do you know why we have checkers?

It is because when you are instructed to do a project, you MUST deliver it exactly as you're told.

So imagine being told you print ("Hello"wink you went and typed print(Hello!)

The checker will score you wrong!

Sigh

I feel there is a very tiny gap between my sanity and insanity!

Since Morning I have been on shell
We were given 14 mandatory tasks and 5 advance task on shell.

It was so confusing at first but with the help of senior colleagues especially Seunfumi, I was able to scale through.

So I was on my 6th tasks when the system started misbehaving, I don't know what or how it happened but all the projects I have done got deleted. I couldn't shout, I couldn't cry. I just sat there dumbfounded staring at the screen.

I tried logging into the sandbox with my phone and all the files showed. I decided to use termux (terminal but phone version) to do my projects but still couldn't, after connecting it to my sandbox and changing directory, I couldn't see all the tasks that I have done.

This is just shell project and I'm already feeling frustrated. Sigh...

ALX projects can make you rethink your life.

the program is not easy o, almost did not reach the 80% cut-off mark but we made it through. if you are just getting started, download pdfs on bash/shell scripting, and c programming and make sure you read it
where can I get materials(pdf, videos) for bash/shell. urgently needed.
Re: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6: 10:35pm On Jun 22, 2022
Gawd!!
I'm so stressed out even though we haven't started C yet

Omo the shell project stressed me oh

It got to a point where all the tasks I have done on my sandbox were nowhere to be found. I tried using the sandbox on my phone and I was able but on the system, I couldn't find them.

I ended up using Termux (A terminal but the phone version) it is really good.

Copied the ssh link, and did the project. Project I started since Morning, I just finished it. I wanna close my eyes and sleep but know tomorrow's project will deal more on advance shell, I will be studying overnight.

One thing I realized so far from this program, you can only make it through...

- Your peers
You need people to help you review your code when you're sure of what you typed but the checker keeps saying "error". I honestly wouldn't have been able to finish my project today by myself. I have colleagues who assist in explaining to me, correcting my mistakes and more.

- A senior who is ahead of you in the program!
When I saw today's project, I quickly went to the guys who have experienced and done the projects for them to explain it to me. They were a huge help along side my colleague. I always ask questions ahead just to be prepared of what is to come.

- Your note
I don't wanna believe there's anyone currently in this program that doesn't have a Note? No matter how smart you are, you need to jot down somethings, you can't accumulate everything in the materials.
Your note will be there for you when you forgot a word but you know fully well that you have read it before.

August cohort, I keep emphasizing on guys because these days we have a lot of projects and very little time, STUDY AHEAD!

alx program is more stressful than i thought and the funny thing is you will be giving materials to research on for your project within a very short period of time.

fr i’ve been awake since yesternight trying to finish shell basics project but my checker keep failing, right now i’m very frustrated and tired cry i need help, if you don’t mind, i will like to drop a message to your email pls.

august cohort pls do intensive research on git, shell and data structure. Infact read ahead to get better understanding of the curriculum. Alx will not tutor you oo just as the op emphasized earlier, read intensively.
is there a way u can list the detailed curriculum for us? And is the data structure based on a specific language?

Guyyyy....

I finished my project by 12am yesterday

I'm still recovering from the stress

We have C quiz today
And advanced shell task

Since this morning, I have been on Shell materials. Didn't move from an inch from my bed till it was time to go to work.

I'm going to continue reading until I feel ready for today's project.

I have posted it here

The reason I post pictures here is to give you guys an insight of what you will be going through so that you can prepare ahead.

Meanwhile the guy who volunteered to create a group for the 8th cohort should add me.

If you sent me an email and I haven't replied, my apologies! I have been trying to survive ALX. But I will be replying all emails now.

Today, I received another email from ALX SE team with resources to check out before the program fully commences on 9th of may. It included link to create a GitHub account, video about git and GitHub and books on C.

I was advised to read them ahead for better understanding of C, since they cover the fundamentals.

I intend to continue learning frontend because I really need a job(money) and also go through with the software program. I will be writing about journey, problems and solutions to provide information for anyone who needs it.

bro..

please, can i have the pdf and videos please

Next time when you're using gitbash.
Ssh your sandbox into the gitbash.
That would give you access to your sandbox whilst you're in the gitbash terminal and you can clone your repository there and work on your project.
Well it's nice seeing your perseverance Sha.
I'm in cohort 6, we started since March 14.
We're like 20k+ when we started, but currently we're 2k+ or so.

So Goodluck
