You don't need to read a chapter at a go. Read one or two verses and meditate on it.

Maybe it's because you find it comforting and relaxing.

It could also be that you simply don't find it engaging, or the Early Modern English makes consumption awkward. Maybe you should take a course, a real course, on the Bible. Or you could join a Bible study group of people similar to you (similar lifestyle and interests).

Read daily devotional first before your Bible it will enable you to some extent not to feel sleepy and as you do with time the sleep will vanish each time you want to study your bible.
