This writer is oblivious of the real charge against Ike and wife before the UK court. The writer claimed they were arraigned before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy to facilitate the travel of Ukpo, alleged to be a minor, for organ harvesting. This is certainly not true. The writer is only quoting a statement by the Metropolitan Police. A statement from the police in public domain is not same as the charge in the court. The statement may not often present the charge as stated.

According to reports: The charges against them, which already follow "an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team" is as follows:

In summary, the charges before Ike and wife the have nothing to do with whether David is a minor. The "age issue" or whether they paid him handsomely is not a concern in this case. Infact, paying him commecially to donate organ is by itself a crime in the UK, so the IKe's wouldn't defend based on that. Authentication of age is not a defense in the case before the UK court.

If the age is confirmed by Nigerian investigations, the charges still remain. "Conspiracy to arrange travel of another "person" .... (a person can be adult or minor). That's isn't a mistake. Pls read within lines. Ike and wife may not escape this, except if the charges are later modified and that would involve lots of diplomacy frm the Buhari's govt.

I've asked this same question several times to people who keep asking why he didnt get his other kids to be donors. Firstly, that they are siblings doesnt mean they must be a match.

Secondly, even if they are matches, the siblings have their own rights to refusal; papa and mama cant force the other kids to donate organs to their sibling.

Then lastly and most importantly, if God has blessed me with the financial resources to safely outsource a service, why should I get my hands dirty? Why shouldnt I pay for it?

If my thoughts were to harvest a young minor's kidney, my line of action is to apply to the British embassy for a visa for my victim, tell them what my motives were, and even make the name of where the harvesting will take place to the British consulate? Will I give the victim the freedom to even go out and approach the police in the UK? take the victim to my house and feed him well and promise to cater to his needs when there are much easier, less costly options!

So, for instance, your 21 years old brother was promised to be helped to the UK, wasn’t briefed about his major purpose of going to the UK nor was his consent sought by the Ekweremadus. Luckily, due to the organized system in the UK, he was briefed before the procedure and at that point it dawned on him he was sponsored to the UK for the love they have for his young Organ not him.

What now happens after the procedure? -Paying for or facilitating the sale or buying of organ or tissue is a criminal offence in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. And the UK govt is right to get involved as their hospital, facilities and immigration department was been used by the suspects in pursuit of that criminal activity.

-Donations of organs or tissues in the UK MUST be altruistic.

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, charged with alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child in the United Kingdom, face life imprisonment if found guilty and convicted to maximum sentence under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 (MSA 2015).

The couple, who were arrested following an investigation by the London Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team, were arraigned before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.

The court denied them bail, but ordered that they be remanded till July 7.

The police had said the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“[B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” the police said in a statement.

The police added that the child had been safeguarded.

Meanwhile, there was a letter in circulation purporting that Ekweremadu had, in December 2021, written a letter to the British High Commission about a kidney donation for his daughter.

He was said to have stated in the letter that he was writing in support of a visa applicant scheduled for “medical investigations for a kidney donation to his daughter.

Couple arrested en route Turkey– Prosecutors

Prosecutors said the couple were arrested at Heathrow Airport on their way to Istanbul, Turkey, ARISE TV reported.

The prosecutors at the court said the Ekweremadu and his wife were being charged for bringing a 15-year-old boy from Nigeria to the UK with the claim that he was to be given a better life, but they were actually meant to harvest his organ.

The prosecutors told the court that Ekweremadu procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old, but discovered that he was 15.

The prosecutors were also said to have told the court that the couple had a daughter with a kidney-related disease and had been on dialysis for quite some time.

They told the court that it was believed that the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter who appeared to need a kidney transplant.

According to the prosecutors, it is believed that the couple were on their way to procure another organ as they were unable to harvest the organ of the boy.

Ekweremadu and his wife had separate legal representations and prayed the court to release them on bail, but the prayer was dismissed by the Magistrate.

Punishment for organ harvesting under UK law

The United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 frowns at human trafficking under which organ harvesting falls and is punishable with maximum sentence of life imprisonment upon conviction.

The Act partly reads: “Under S. 2, an individual commits an offence if they arrange or facilitate the travel of another with a view to that person being exploited. It is irrelevant whether that person consents to the travel, or whether they are a child or an adult.

“Under S. 3 of MSA 2015, exploitation includes: slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour; sexual exploitation (which involves the commission of an offence under s 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children’s Act 1978 (indecent photographs of children), or Pt 1 of SOA 2003 (eg, rape or sexual assault); removal of organs where a person is encouraged required or expected to do anything which involves the commission of an offence under ss 32 or 33 of the Human Tissue Act 2004 (prohibition of commercial dealings in organs and restrictions on use of live donors); securing services etc by force, threats or deception; securing services etc from children and vulnerable persons (eg, physically or mentally ill or disabled).”

It further stated that anyone found guilty of “human trafficking is liable on summary conviction to 12 months’ imprisonment and/or unlimited fine,” adding that “on conviction on indictment, the maximum sentence is life imprisonment.”

This is UK not Malaysia.

This case shows how a lot of people are criminally minded and tribal champions too. That's why you guys keep voting in wicked people just to pepper some people. It will take years for the effect of bad governance to totally disappear from the mentally of the average Nigerian. To a lot of people the young man is a sharp guy.

The boys age, the promise of job, promise of better life in the UK and maybe money paid to his Nigerian account are inducement. But these are not crimes committed on the UK l. They are not charging them based on that because the evidence may not be tenable. What they charged them for with evidence is simple:

Nigerians have failed to understand something that the police already investigated and know what they have evidence to convict him off. Hence, they didn't charge him for bringing a minor or possible inducement. The charge reads: The charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team

They charge him for travel arrangements and exploitation, which they can prove. They don't need any authentication or evidence from Nigerian agency (bank, immigration, NIMC etc,.) to prove his guilty. I'm sure Ike already gave statement which he must have accepted he made the traveling arrangement, and also to harvest, abeit, exploit, the 21/22 year old boy due to his poor background.

With the weight of evidence, except if the charges are modified, chances of which are unlikely, then Ike would be advice by his team of lawyers to plea guilty. The judge would be appeal upon to consider on the fact that he's only trying to save his ailing daughter as a responsible father. He may be convicted with minimum sentence or option of fine. He may be ask to go and take care of the daughter, after which to come and serve the sentence. It is possible as week that he serves while the wife is allow to go and take care of the daughter.

I think the UK law frowns upon financial / material inducement for organ exchange. This is where the problem lies not actually on his age.

If there is no record or proof of material exchange for the organ then the Ike family might go scout free. But if there exist any material inducement, that one go be big problem.

Organ is not something that is openly traded. Else people would start breeding humans for the sole purpose of organ sale.


Even, u can't use a condemned criminal on death roll for organ exchange without his or her consent.

The Department of State Security (DSS) has raided a house located at JMDB quarters, in the Tudun Wada community of Jos North LGA of Plateau State, where the operatives rescued 21 young people, including almajirai.

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), while confirming the incident, told Daily Trust that the rescued victims told the group during interrogation that they were forcefully brought to the house and converted to Christianity.

The General Secretary of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, said the house which was raided by the DSS was under the custody of the church but denied that it was used to convert people to Christianity, adding the claim should be discarded.

We report that the DSS raided the house on June 14, and recovered the victims, who were said to have been brought to Jos from another state.

The raid of the house, according to the JNI’s Director Aid Group Plateau State chapter, and Chief Security Officer, Jos Central Mosque, Danjuma Khalid, came after one of the victims, Abdulrahman Usaini, who escaped from the house, reported that they had been camped in the house for eight months.

Khalid said the DSS operatives raided the house following JNI’s report.

“On June 13, a group of people including Abdulrahman who ran away from the house met me here in the Central Mosque saying that they had come to report an issue regarding forceful adoption and conversion of their pupils to Christianity by ECWA Church in Jos.

“While narrating the incident, the escapee told me that he and one other, Nura Usama, were forcefully taken by some individuals in a Camry Toyota Car from Gombe, to ECWA headquarters, Jos, and after being documented, they were later taken to a house at Tudun Wada, where they were camped, and that he had ran away, leaving his brother, Nura at the house.

“On June 14, we reported the case to the DSS, Plateau State command, and the escapee narrated to the DSS how they were taken from Gombe to Jos and how he escaped from the house in Tudun Wada area.

Immediately after we reported the matter, the DSS swung into action. The operatives of the command went to the house in Tudun Wada alongside the escapee, stormed the premises and rescued 21 children.”

He said when the victims were brought to the DSS State Command, two of the victims – Abdulrahman Usaini and Nura Usama – were handed over to JNI, the uncle to Abdulrahman, and their teacher, while the remaining victims were left under the custody of the DSS until their parents or relatives were found.

*How we were brought from Gombe to Jos – Abdulrahman*
Abdulrahman, who is originally from Azare, in Bauchi State, said he was taken to Gombe town for Qur’anic school, from where he was taken to ECWA Church in Jos.

He said sometime in October 2021, while returning to his school located around Pantami area, they were called by some individuals who asked them to wash their car (a Toyota Camry), but they told them that it was already night, but they were immediately shoved into the car.

“They took us to ECWA Church Tumfure, in Gombe, and we spent three weeks there. They told us on the last day of the three weeks that we should get ready to travel to Jos. By 4am of that very day, we were already on the road and by 9am, we arrived at the ECWA Headquarters in Jos. I didn’t know Jos; that was my first time of coming to Jos.

“We told them to take us back to Gombe because our parents didn’t know our whereabouts. They refused, and a day after, they moved us to a house in Tudun Wada where we spent eight months. Throughout the period, we were taught Christian religious knowledge.

We were taught different subjects that have to do with Christianity, but we were well taken care of.
Whatever you needed, they provided us with it.
Food was always available.

“After spending six weeks, we were taken to ECWA Good News located around Ahmadu Bello Way for church service and other church activities.”

Abdulrahman further said on June 13, he was able to escape from the house after he scaled the fence and ran to the town, pleading with people to help him return to Azare in Bauchi State. He was later taken to the Chairman of Cabbage section of Faringada Market, Adamu Alhaji Adamu, who also hails from Azare town.

The Secretary General of the Church, while responding to the matter, told us that those who were found in the house were not forcefully brought there as claimed by the victims, saying the claims were probably made to tarnish the image of the church. He said the church was not converting anybody to Christianity.

He said: “There is nothing close to that. ECWA is a global organisation and is involved in a lot of projects. We have healthcare institutions, spiritual welfare, empowerment and so on.

“That house that was raided is one of the places we have and used it to help people irrespective of their ethno-religious affiliations. The place is just like a school where somebody has to bring you. We don’t accept anybody below 18 years. We charged people money for admitting you into the school. We train them on different businesses. You will spend one year before you graduate.”

Asked if the DSS told the church why they raided the house and rescued 21 persons, the secretary general said: “The DSS may be in the best position to respond to this question. They probably don’t know what the house is meant for and you know that DSS will not tell you everything.”

On the issue of the escapee (Abdulrahman) and his brother, Nura Usama, who were brought from Gombe, Rev. Nmadu said: “The two of them don’t have to run because they have been there for seven months. One of the policies of the house is that whoever is tired of the programme, he can leave at his will. He has no reason to run because we were not the ones that brought him.”

Asked how much is being charged for enrolment into the programme, said he did not know. “There is someone who should know much about the registration fee. It is a global organisation. So, we have lots of institutions. I only know that the place is being run, but I can’t give you the details of the registration fee.”

He also said he did not know those who brought the two brothers to the house from Gombe. “I won’t know because I am not working with the students and I don’t know much about what the DSS found after interrogating the two persons you are talking about.”

Malam Muhammad Misbahu, a resident of Bomala community in Akko LGA of Gombe State, who is the teacher of Abdulrahman and Nura in Gombe, explained how the students who were brought to him to acquire Qur’anic knowledge disappeared since October last year.

He said: “Between October 15 and 20 last year, we tried all we could to find out their whereabouts but couldn’t. I called their parents in Azare to ask if they had travelled home without my consent, and they told me that none of them had returned. We were worried and engaged in prayers.”

Misbahu said on June 13, he was called that his students had been found and the DSS wanted to see him to ensure the affected victims were really his students.

“When I arrived in Jos, myself, the director of JNI Aid Group, and Adamu Alhaji Adamu, an uncle to Abdulrahman, went to the DSS command in Jos. We were told that my students including other people were found in a house in Tudun Wada. They handed them to us on the condition that whenever the DSS is looking for them, I will come along with them, and I agreed.”

Efforts to get official confirmation of the operation from the DSS headquarters in Abuja proved abortive as calls to the mobile phone of the spokesman, Peter Afunanya, were declined.
