#Hemorrhoids (Pile) In Pregnancy: Myths, Misconceptions and Facts Overview What is a Hemorrhoid (Pile)? ☆▪This is simply defined as swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort and bleeding. In the general population, hemorrhoids are usually caused from straining during bowel movements, obesity, or pregnancy. They can sometimes protrude from the anus. They are often itchy or painful and can sometimes rupture and bleed. ☆▪Hemorrhoids occur when straining or pressure causes the veins in your rectum to swell and enlarge ☆▪Discomfort is a common symptom, especially during bowel movements or when sitting. Other symptoms include itching and bleeding. ☆▪A high-fiber diet can be effective, along with over-the-counter medications, such as stool softeners. In some cases, a surgical procedure to remove the hemorrhoid may be needed to provide relief. #Hemorrhoids (Pile) In Pregnancy During pregnancy many pregnant women develop hemorrhoids while pregnant, especially during the third trimester. This condition is treatable by a medical professional and is usually self-diagnosable (by the individual). You don’t need lab tests or imaging for the diagnosis. This can last for years or even for a lifetime. In pregnancy, they are more common if the woman is constipated. Causes of hemorrhoids during pregnancy Three common causes of hemorrhoids are: 1●Straining during bowel movements 2●The strain of excess weight (Obesity) The pressure of sitting or standing for long periods of time (Postural stress) #So what might lead to this during pregnancy? 1● The growing baby can increase the pressure on the veins in the lower body. This can lead to hemorrhoids. 2● Also pregnancy hormones can also cause the walls of your veins to relax and in so doing allows them to swell more easily. 3●Straining, especially during hard bowel (stool) movements, traps more blood in the swollen veins. This can make hemorrhoids very painful. 4● Straining can also cause hemorrhoids to protrude from the rectum. (Rare but common). Please note, if you have had hemorrhoids before pregnancy, you're more likely to get them again while pregnant. They may also develop or flare up with the straining of labor. #What can you do to manage of Hemorrhoids? To an extent you can help prevent hemorrhoids by making simple lifestyle changes that keep you from getting constipation: ♧1. Drink plenty of liquids. ● Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day. (Not easy, but try). You can also drink one to two glasses of fruit juices, such as prune juice. ♧2. Eat foods high in fiber. 1●Try and eat raw fresh fruits, vegetables, bran cereals and other sources of fiber. 2● If you are also suffering from increased gas, start eating foods that are high in fiber. 3● Wheat bran is a good fiber supplement. It causes less gas than other fiber-rich foods. ( You can find this in your cereal) ♧3. Exercise regularly. 1● Please, be sure to check with your health provider before embarking on any form of exercise. Walking and engaging in other safe activities for at least 2 1/2 hours CAN help. Doing aerobic exercise every week can help the digestive system do its work. This means that most pregnant women should try to get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on most, if not all, days. 2● Always be sure to find out from your health care provider what exercises are safe for you and how long you can maintain your exercise program. ♧4. When you gotta go, you gotta go. 1● Always go to the bathroom as soon as you feel the urge. 2● When you delay, it becomes harder to pass stool, and this can mess you up! ♧5. Don’t gain too much weight. 1●Gain a sensible amount of weight, according to your review and assessment. 2●Stay within the guidelines your health care provider sets, be healthy 3. Excess pounds put extra pressure on your abdomen. This increases your chances of getting hemorrhoids. ♧ 6. Avoid long periods of standing or sitting. 1● If you must sit for long periods, get up and move around for a few minutes every hour or so. 2●When lying down, lie on your left side to help take the pressure off the major vessels. #Remedies The good news is, most hemorrhoids improve on their own, you can do several things to help you relieve the pain, swelling and itching of hemorrhoids: 1●Soak your rectal/ anal area in warm water for 10 to 20 minutes at a time for several times a day. (PLEASE, REMEMBER WARM, LUKEWARM FRIENDLY WATER, NOT HOT BOILING WATER). 2● At most drug stores, you can get a sitz bath that you can use for this. A sitz bath is a small basin that fits over the seat of the toilet. 3 ●Ask your health care provider about which over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams are safe to use.(There are a whole lot out there). 4●Use unscented, white brands of toilet paper. Some women find it helpful to wipe the anal area with moist towelettes, wet toilet paper, or medicated pads instead of toilet paper. That’s ok too! 5● Keep the anal area clean. Soap isn't necessary and may aggravate the problem. 6● Be careful to gently dry the area after bathing, since moisture can cause irritation. 7● Apply ice packs or cold compresses for 10 minutes up to four times a day. 8● If a hemorrhoid begins to stick out, gently push it back into the rectal canal, with a clean washed hand. #When to talk to your health care provider Most hemorrhoids go away on their own. But, when you have done all the above mentioned, and it still gives your severe discomfort. You will require a medical procedure. Talk to your health care provider if: ●You don't get relief using the suggestions above ● You notice bleeding Thank you. BS!! I don finally hang boot after 3boys,God just blessed me with a baby girl.. After my last baby I said no baby for now again till I plan to get my baby girl oo,na so belle enter October last year I was sad cos I didnt plan it(God forgive me oo) After getting to know i was pregnant,that's when morning sickness dealt with me,I couldn't stand upright,my cramps was out of this world nd I had to go to scan to check if its ectopic pregnancy or real one...it turned out that baby was intact and perfect@8weeks.. January period @12weeks malaria strike me,i have not even started taking any routine drugs cos of my severe morning sickness I took malaria drugs prescribed by Doctor and i was fine.. Through out that time except the first 3 months no issues again.. Fast forward to 38weeks appointment,I started my exercise,walkn,climbing stairs,eating pineapple,tnkn that as a fourth time mum 38 39 weeks I don born.. Kai,38,39 40weeks came no sign,i sleep everynight in my mind that contraction will wake me up,but as the saying goes that MAN PROPOSES BUT GOD DISPOSES.. Friday was my 40th week,then on Saturday I woke up with catarrh,body pains,nd some cramps,I didn't take it as anything cos no sign of show,no contractions nd no water,i went about doing my normal Saturday works shaa So this Sunday morning I wake up too tired ,body pains too again,I know I can't head to church with the way am feeling.. 12pm I started having contractions/cramps that comes every 10minutes,I monitor it,so I waited till 1pm to head to hospital,we got there by 1.20pm,I was ask to go to labor room immediately.. The contraction pain was so too much(labor pain na labor pain irrespective of how many you have) See me shouting the nurse were like madam is this ur first?when u now said 4th,it will be like u no dey endure pain.. Na so the nurse come tell me to breath with mouth open if the contractions comes nd try to relax ,for where,e no dey easy as dem dey talk am ooo,lol.. Dey check me nd say dey need to empty my bladder dat I hv full bladder.. E no even tey dey break my water.. Before you know it baby's head is showing Tho the Doctor was there checkn babys heartbeat nd how d contractions were coming... Na when baby wan come out na so my own pain go tripple,I was raising my waist up,the nurses was teln me to bring down my hip nd hold my legs nd push,,Chai... That was how I pushed once and my baby came forth weighing 3.4kg,no tear.. Let's say 1hr + in the hospital with hot labor.. As we dey type am e come easy for mouth.. BS! BS!! BS!!! alert TTC journey: Got married Oct 2020,since that time till march no pregnancy got worried and started praying cos of some spiritual revelation, I got a new job and was saving money to run some tests. It wasn't an easy journey cos I and hubby both had medical issues we needed to work on I prayed at midnight with daily confessions until God decided to show up on the month of our one yr anniversary I took in unknowingly, found out in Nov I was pregnant 6weeks gone. My joy knew no bounds,it was a prophesized pregnancy that was revealed to the head of my sch. Pregnancy journey(FIRST TRIMESTER): Hmm the day I found out I was preggy it was like knowing triggered the morning sickness ooo,vomitted till four mnth couldn't eat anything unless juice and cold water, it was a trying period hubby was frustrated and was planning on taking me back to Lagos to stay with my mum. I lost weight badly and resembled a dehydrated person. I had threatened miscarriage at 8 weeks. Was given progesterone support to take. (SECOND TRIMESTER) Morning sickness gradually subsided and I was able to eat was gaining weight slowly and bump began to show still had spotting episode on and off due to the force of my vomiting. Registered for antenatal at 19 weeks and started taking my drugs. Baby kept being hyper active till THIRD TRIMESTER; this is where the real pregnancy package started, swollen vagina ,back ache couldn't walk well.When I entered my delivery month was given castor oil to take at 37weeks I just pooed BT second day of it I had contractions like I wud av given birth DAT day. So I was having on and off contractions till 40weeks + still no active sign,went for photo shoot and trekked some distance,woke up Monday morning with mucus plug. Doc already said he will induce so I got dre he checked I was 3cm and dilating without pain. Cervical ripening was done and at 1-8pm contractions started, I went to the hospital was checked and it was 5cm,all were hoping before Tuesday afternoon I go born. My doc came and checked in the morinig I was 7cm dey broke my water and behold baby has pooed inside dre,at 8cm dey said if I feel the urge to poo I should,me I pooed on the bed cleaned it up and myself. See person wey dey labour Hmm I was stucked at 8cm from DAT day till wed morning, doc said there's something blocking the cervix, I was just confused me wey dey in labour dey dilate with less pain and sleeping ,dey fix hot drip my body became anti drip absorber. When it was wed morning still at 8cm,doc said matron prepare for surgery I was talked to and given a choice of continuing the labour or cs cos the baby has sheet and dey don't want any risk.though her heart was beating fine.We went for scan I called hubby ,doc was trying to check for the mass blocking the place and saw I was 10cm.the man confused he said God what is going on. The devil thought they had me but I had a supernatural God. He almost said I shud endure the labour again BT said let's go and take out the baby. Almost to the theatre door see contractions again na so dem grab me and began operation. I was contracting with the surgery.Baby came out weighing 3kg and av swallowed plenty dirt and poo,no kick ,no cry, doc abandoned me and went to rescue baby. Theatre turn upside down see run here and dre oo,till my baby cried. Prior to the delivery hmmm it was a labour that started well I wasn't shouting just exercising and dilating without pain, I used the supernatural book and said to myself its nothing more than a muscle pull. And that's how I contracted without much pain. Doc said if I had pushed that baby the vagina will just compress a child that has went thru stress.The enemies never wanted me to birth the child so they introduced confusion the doc is a prayerful person and he opted for CS only for devil to take the cervix to 10cm so I can push BT it failed. I am well and fine with my Angel. She's a strong and active baby ,she's holding breast for herself with mummy. A beautiful baby girl that has the whole hospital staff in our ward cos of her.Doctor comes to carry her daily,I really thank God for her life and mine.God no go shame us,I pray for safe delivery to my remaining teamies and oda mamas.Thanks for all ur prayers and congratulatory messages May God bless you all.
