That’s a lie. China did not ban imports up to 1990. Show us the evidence. We live in an info age. You can’t just fabricate a claim and vomit it on social media. Quintopia: |

Kai! All of a sudden, power is improving. I remembered the few months after Buhari resumed office in 2015, Omo!! We were literally switching off our refrigerator then to allow it rest from the excess power. It was so much that we all thought that was the change Buhari was bringing. Now, all of a sudden again, power is improving........ I won't say anything My advice still remains VOTE WISELY 8 Likes |

The power plants in Nigeria are under utilized, they can generate more energy if they want to eg the Nipp power plant in Olorunsogo has been shutdown for a while now due to low pressure of gas to propel their gas turbines and even when there is gas they don’t run all the gas turbines . |

Uchek: Go and study history and quit embarrassing yourself. China closed its economy to the world right up till 1978 specifically, when she began a process of opening up to foreign commerce. This was not an instant transformation, but took place slowly throughout the 1980s, reaching its peak in the early 1990s. https://www.jri.co.jp/english/periodical/rim/1999/RIMe199904threereforms/ Prior to this 'opening up', a combination of outright bans and extremely high import tariffs served to protect her economy from foreign imports, encouraging local industrialisation, such that by the 1980s, she had established a strong enough local industrial base to open up the economy to the multinationals and foreign competitors. This is really the only true and fast way to develop a country, ie initial bans and high import tariffs to force local innovation and industrialisation, even at the risk of local discomfort and suffering. The trouble with it is that it requires a brutal dictatorship to enforce, since democratic societies would never support a restriction of their freedoms, including the freedom to import everything they need in a 'free market'. 4 Likes |

Quintopia:/ The same format every 4 years. After the elections, it will revert to total darkness. Why is every good thing about governance in Nigeria always happening around election time? Politicians intermingle with the masses, power improves, contractors mobilized to sites, terrorists being tackled head long, etc and once the election is over, everything goes to status quo ante. The good thing is that the politicians have mastered these gimmicks and the masses continue to fall for them. I don't know this man but he captured it succinctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfVZkjX7Zyg / 7 Likes |

Enkidu70: If you didn't have the intellect of a toad, you would have seen where I typed that Nigeria had an installed generating capacity exceeding 13,000 megawatts, and that her problem was primarily distribution, which the Siemens deal is here to deal with. Shuu, everybody on this thread are fighting @quintopia, though if we read what at quintopia writes it makes sense in one way all the other, I took my time to read his comments, but beyond that I think our problem is our leaders, in few weeks we will be 62 and in many ways we have not gotten it right, if to be honest we gained independence before Ghana, but it's crazy to believe Ghana have stable power supply than us, Ghana don't even have the resources we have, Ghana make use of hydro, thermal and even gas for generation of power, but here our sole focus is hydro, I believe if we get good leaders though we can't be USA in a day but at least we will see significant improvement....I hope who will election in 2023 will be the right person for us, though I am atikulated 2 Likes |

Hitsport16: It is a MYTH that Ghana ''doesn't have the resources we have''. Here's a little secret: Proportionate to her size and population, Ghana is more richly endowed with resources than Nigeria. Ghana is a country of just 25 million people - the population of one state in Nigeria. Yet she is the 2nd largest gold exporter in Africa after South Africa, the largest exporter of cocoa in Africa, and an oil and gas exporter of note on the continent. There's no reason why Ghana should not be fully developed with abundant power supply, cheap food, top class infrastructure and more. But instead what we see is Ghana running to the IMF to bail her out of her economic collapse, as inflation and hunger run riot in the country. I can't remember when last Nigeria approached the IMF for a bailout loan. Must have been in the 1980s or something. 6 Likes |

Quintopia:Forget this long story. The reason is the amcon takeover of Discos. Those Discos used to reject power and do a lot of load shedding. Now that they're out of the window with those their shenanigans, power supply had improved |
Re: 5,043 Megawatts & Rising - Nigerians Enjoy Improved Power Supply Nationwide by Quintopia: 6:28am On Sep 07, 2022 |
Invest4growth: SIEMENS ARE ALREADY HERE. It was the 'covid pandemic' that delayed their work, as the contract was signed in early 2020 just before the 'pandemic', which stopped all work and shipments worldwide for nearly 2 years. Now the contract execution is back on full steam, and it is really just a question of time before Nigeria witnesses an explosive and stunning improvement in power supply. And when that happens in the next 2 to 3 years under a new administration, Nigerians should remember to commend the Buhari administration for initiating it. 2 Likes |

jeyem: This doesn't tell the whole story and amounts to a misrepresentation of facts. Nigeria's installed generating capacity is over 13,000 megawatts. Our problem is not generation, but poor distribution capacity caused by an antiquated grid, and that is now being fixed with the Siemens deal. Egypt had the exact same problem we do, and Siemens was called in, and they fixed it in 5 years, leading to Egypt now generating and distributing around 20,000 mw. 4 Likes |
