Quintopia: Hey kangaroo. Read here In the 1990s the Nigerian electricity system was failing to meet Nigeria's power needs, leading to the National Electric Power Policy of 2001, and several other reforms (KPMG, 2016). By the year 2000, a state-owned monopoly, the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), was in charge of the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power in Nigeria. It operated as a vertically integrated utility company and had a total generation capacity of about 6, 200 MW from 2 hydro and 4 thermal power plants. This resulted in an unstable and unreliable electric power supply situation in the country with customers exposed to frequent power cuts and a long period of power outages and an industry characterized by lack of maintenance of power infrastructure, outdated power plants, low revenues, high losses, power theft, and non-cost reflective tariffs. |

THAT LINK CONTRADICTS YOUR CLAIM DRAMATICALLY AND SHOWS WE PRODUCED NO MORE THAN 1,000 mw AT BEST, IN THE 1970S. 2 Likes |

Quintopia: Hey giraffe Read As of june 2014 There are currently 23 grid-connected generating plants in operation in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) with a total installed capacity of 11,165.4 MW and an available capacity of 7,139.6 MW. Most generation is thermal-based, with an installed capacity of 9,044 MW (81% of the total) and an available capacity of 6,079.6 MW (83% of the total |

ghboy83: LIAR: ''Ghana currently has over 5,300 MW of installed generation capacity''. You do not produce 5,300 mw. What you produce is roughly 2,000 megawatts. Blasted illiterate. Go and learn the difference between production and installed capacity. Nigeria's installed capacity is over 13,000 MW, and it is sufficient for her needs. She just needs to ramp up distribution, and that is being sorted by the Siemens deal. AND YOU SURE HAVE A LOT OF NERVE WITH YOUR COLLAPSED GHANA ECONOMY, RUNAWAY INFLATION, AND WORST PERFORMING CURRENCY ON EARTH AFTER SRI LANKA, WITH YOUR PRESIDENT ON HIS KNEES TO THE IMF FOR YOUR 14TH IMF BAILOUT LOAN, WHILE CALLING OTHER COUNTRIES ''BIG FOR NOTHING''. YOU ARE SMALL AND YOU'RE LESS THAN NOTHING WTH YOUR IMF AND WESTERN FOOD AID DEPENDENCY, SO KINDLY GET LOST AND GO MIX WITH YOUR FELLOW IMF-DEPENDENT MATES LIKE SIERRA LEONE, LIBERIA, BURUNDI, AND SOUTH SUDAN. 1 Like |

As a former phcn staff, when you hear improved electricity supply, it applies mainly to those in the cities not rural area. That's why no business thrives in rural villages. If electricity supply were to reach every nook and cranny, i can assure you that 5000mw can't guarantee anyone 12hrs electricity a day. Depriving all those in villages and rural areas of electricity to satisfy those in cities is not definition of improved electricity. 3 Likes |
