Please house, I am new here and have a few questions I need assistance with:

1. Do I need to learn German language before I can be admitted into a PhD program in Germany?

2. Can I travel at the same time to Germany on a study visa with my spouse and kids or they have to join me at a later date?
german language is an added advantage not compulsory, you can travel with ur spouse depending on the type of visa issued,if u have blue card or skilled immigration act u can go with ur spouse

Pls, are there schools in Germany that accepts 2.2 for Msc cos I don search tire and already getting frustrated.
I have Bsc in Sociology so I'm looking at MA/Msc Sociology/Gender Studies or any social science course. Somebody pls help me. I like Bielefeld University but I don't know if 2.2 is acceptable there.

Convert your 2:2 to the German GPA scale. That will enable you see the GPA requirements for the course in the University you wish to apply for.

(Maximum GPA obtainable - Your GPA) ÷ (Maximum GPA obtainable - Minimum GPA required to graduate) X 3 + 1 = Your German GPA (approximate to 1 decimal place.

E.g my GPA is 3.6 out of 5 points
(5-3.6/5-1)x3+1
1.4/4 x 3 (+1)
0.35 x 3 (+1)
1.05 + 1 = 2.05 (~2.1) in German scale.

The German Scale is 1-4 with 1 being the highest obtainable GPA (unlike Nigeria's which is 5).
If your German GPA converted is less than 2.5, admission might be difficult especially in restricted courses (NC). It is not impossible, as they also consider education needs assessment by country.

1. If your PhD program is in English and German language is not a prerequisite, you don't need the language course but it is advisable to learn the language given opportunity and resources, otherwise you're fine without it, and get your way through the first embarrassing few months

2. Germany doesn't operate like the UK to the best of my knowledge.
-You have to be in Germany already
-Your family will need to apply for a separate visa called the Family Reunion Visa and the person who you're filing for, e.g husband will need to have at least an A.1 German language certificate
-Proof of funds for sustenance in the form of a Blocked Account (about 11,000 EUR) per adult person and additional half of it for a minor or a payslip that suggests so.
-Proof of a adequate living space, very important, depending on the family size.
-Patience, as it might take upto a year to get your family visa(s) after application.

Hence you are sort of required to be in Germany already, you will find out these info.

Thanks. Any idea how I can get this blue card or skilled immigration act you suggested above?

It is a deal breaker if I can't move with my family.

you can apply for blue card if ur salary is above 45,000 euros ,then skilled immigration act (it’s a fast track procedure but it is done by ur employer)they give u a pre approval letter which enables u get an appointment at the embassy within three weeks and then the embassy decides with another three weeks )but it’s only ur employer that can initiate that

When you say employer, is it correct to assume you mean German employer?

Yes or get a different sponsor which is not advisable as it may backfire.

Since June 11, all covid related restrictions have been lifted.
You don't need to show any proof nor fill any form.

However, contact your airline, especially if they will be transiting anywhere. But you're fine.

Congratulations.

Did your friend and brother know his/her graduating class and GPA yet?
That will determine the appointment category they belong to. If 2:2, Cat B, they should begin by booking appointment and seeking admission.

Certification can be done at Germany embassy in Lagos, MOFA/Min of Edu, High Court (in form of attestation).

Not a must, the only criteria is that, the person must be a legal resident and earns certain amount of money.

Hi guys,

So I will be rounding up my A1 next month and would like to enrol for winter 2023, however my relative is advising me to study up to B1 as I'll get more opportunities than having just A1.

Doing B1 will make me move my plans to summer 2023.

Please advise

A lot of factors come into play, but I suggest you get up to B1 because it will go a longer way for you. What course and degree do you intend to go for?
