Yes God saved him. Jesus said "watch and pray". Even Jesus was taken away by the pilates for us to understand the need to be careful while you pray to avoid getting exposed to danger. You can recall that Apostle Peter and others were sleeping when Jesus Christ was praying, which was against the warning of Jesus. They later slept off until Jesus was surrounded. Because you prayed does not mean you should constantly expose yourself to danger. Those that can think deep should be able to understand.
