Kdf

Given the endemic institutional corruption of KDF it will not take long before we start hearing of the DRC locals being extorted, women raped,....

The big bellied generals could not even equip them with things like thermal sights which would give them a tactical advantage over the rebels

Your obsession with Kenya and the KDF is unhealthy. On par with the other idiots here with SA in their small brains.

These multi unit ops can be tricky.
Who has ULTIMATE operational control? Who far does his mandate reach among the different sub unit commanders?
Ie, if he tells say the UPDF bn commander to block the route of a retreating M 23 group and engage them and he says,"hell no!," what then?
This actually happened in S Sudan 2016. The commander of the peace keepers was Kenyan and ordered the Chinese on scene commander to secure a certain IDP camp in Juba where some female CIA agents had taken shelter amongst the displaced.
Because the US bribed Riek Machar to restart the war to halt China's advance in the oilfields the Chinese commander listened to Beijing ignoring the Kenyan general.
The infuriated Dinkas got their hands on the 5 or so female CIA agents IIRC they all needed extensive psychotherapy and surgery for cervical scarring.

Maj Gen Jeff Nyaga was then a brigadier when he led KDF Operation Linda Nchi to capture Kismayu.

Here we go again. As usual;

WHILE TRUE

Foreign army enters to solve civil war.

Initial successes by the foreign army.

Massive civilian support.

War changes to Insurgency and stalemates.

Foreign army is blamed for all the problems in the country down to the cockroaches in the country.

Blame games and loss of civil support.

Foreign army gets tired and leaves the country.

Insurgency turns into a civil war once again

It has been happening already for the past 40 years in DRC incase you have been asleep....
This is a regional led initiative, and if you had cared to read the damn statement you would have seen that all warring parties far and wide, small and large have been invited to the negotiating table to end the hostilities in a political solution once and for all..
There is no, "we don't negociate with terrorist macho matra here" The statement clearly hints that only a political solution will bring permanent peace

What's going on in DRC is an attempted land grab by Rwanda, like what Russia is doing. The best solution is to let them carve out what they want otherwise there will never be peace

UN soldiers can't solve it, they will drag it out, they wouldn't want to solve the issue because it would mean they go back home and miss out on the UN money

Negotiating with an invasion? How will that work?

BTW Why is Kenya so obsessed with fighting wars that are frankly not their business? I get the goodwill part but still find that quite absurd. This was the same way they entered Somalia and consequently imported terrorism into their own country. Air and logistic support should be all at most. F*ck EAC whatever, I don't see why Kenyan infantry should be on the frontline in a charity war. Maybe their generals just enjoy wars. Kenya has no business in that FARDC-M23/ Rwanda shit show.

Please correct me if am wrong but out of all those EAC countries, I believe Kenya is the newcomer in that conflict, yet they seem to have donated the largest troops and are apparently leading the charge.

The answer to your questions is simple, Kenya wants to be a regional Power and you can't blame them for having such aspirations

Every country must aspire to be important and to be influencial to it's neighbors and in it's region.

In Africa to achieve this aspirations the country must act as a stabilizing force and contribute meaningfully to UN peace missions and also lead's it's own peace missions in the region.

Besides Nigeria did this same thing in the 80s and 90s by bringing stability to the west African subregion and Africa at large in a way it received praises from the US and the world at large. To have influence in your region you need two things, first you need to prove your military superiority over the region and secondly you need a stable political atmosphere with a good economy to achieve influence.

And I think Kenya has all what it takes to achieve their objectives wink

Its called "Carot and Stick" thats how

And you say Somlaia is not our business, but you don't know how it came to be, you dont know where it all started... You dont know how we tried for years to make things work without getting involved inside Somalia, You dont know the burden of hosting over 1 million refugees and then still get sporadically attacked and your people kidnapped... If anyone has to be in Somalia its Kenya. Not Uganda or Ethiopia or Sierra Leonne or Burundi.. By the time Kenya was sending boots on the ground, majority of Kenyan's were like, 'Finally, the government is doing something'
And about the importation of terrorism, lots of Kenyans muslims and converts had already been recruited to fight jihad in Somalia... Its was just a ticking time bomb, had Kenya not invaded Somalia, I'm pretty sure they would have found some other reason to still carry out attacks... I mean the last attack on Hotel Dusit D2, alshabaab claimed it was revenge for Donald trump Moving the US embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, like what the actual Fvck! We would have still been attacked for bieng a popular tourists destination for western countries...

And BTW, its not charity we are doing, Kenya has great economic and logistical ambition, and a significant part of those ambitions are dependent of the on a strong and peaceful DRC for supply of raw materials, expanded market for goods and services and a conduit for logistics ..

The main thing was to provide protective depth for the LAPSSET project itself a critical trans Africa road bridge-an important part of the Global Belt and Road initiative. People perpetually screech "conspiracy theory!"Why did Al Shabab attack a road building crew in an 80% Muslim zone early this year? Why has AS between active in Lamu since their mass murdering appearance in June 2014? Add up these related issues and the wider picture becomes clear.
No biggie-some guys will NEVER add 2+2!

BTW, something you've often lamented: our current exercise is a division-sized one.
Proper division of 12000-15000 pax.

Vuk’uhlome is flagship annual exercise for landward force
What the landward force is calling the “battle of the brigades” is expected to be a highlight of Exercise Vuk’uhlome currently underway at the Combat Training Centre (CTC), Lohathla, Northern Cape.

The exercise – the first at division level in the SA Army since formation in 1994 – is termed the “flagship annual exercise”. Apart from the brigade level component, Vuk’uhlome will see army Regular and Reserve Force elements exercise with support from the SA Air Force (SAAF). According to the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) Directorate Corporate Communication (DCC) the exercise has an intervention phase, followed by peace support operations, the prestigious week (sic) with the brigade battle as centrepiece followed by a career exhibition (at a nearby school) with a community outreach project wrapping up proceeding on 22 November.

“Scenarios depicting typical war scenes will form part of the exercise which will enable the SA Army to measure its state of readiness in terms of discharging its mandate of preparing, providing and sustaining combat ready landward forces for employment by the Chief of the SANDF,” according to an official statement.

“The exercise will be carried out in collaboration with other services and divisions including Special Forces, SAAF, the SA Military Health Service (SAMHS), as well as the Defence Legal Service and Chaplain Service divisions.”
