You work in an international organization and I'm so sure that they don't use public hospitals for the employees, or well, maybe they only use the private clinics for the high ranking employees, which you might probably be among. In fact, a company that could sponsor you outside the country for a conference definitely see and believe in your potentials and will offer you the best of packages!

Now tell me, how many Nigerians have the opportunity to work in such organization? In fact, many Professors still struggle in Nigeria! And health is not cheap in Nigeria but it's affordable, and only if you have money will you enjoy it!

Even the elites don't use Nigerian health facilities except it's unavoidable. Wether you can't wait to leave Canada or not, it's your business.

Hope you know in UK of today, if you have a headache, unless it is absolutely reported as something that is about to kill you, you won't see a doctor till January.

Earlier this year, I went back in time to few years back when I was doing so well in Nigeria. The noises from friends and all nurtured the decision to move abroad inside of me. I became so restless till I finally leave. The first day in Canada was the day I knew this place isn't where I can be forever. Most of us would have come back before the time we had in mind except for the fact that I don't still have enough. If I want to travel to naija for vacation now, I will need up to $4k. If I take that away from my savings, I don't know how I can recover.

No one tells about the downside of this place. I feel lonely, depressed and empty most times. Because no one to talk to, just everyone in my workplace goin about their business. If I make attempt to talk to them, they just waive it with a smile. It's been 3years here and the people I still talk to on video call are friends from Nigeria. It's been 3years and my savings is still Short of $20k despite how much my friends in Nigeria do tell me how easy it is for me to make money abroad but I never tell them my situation. I can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good. I know a lot will come at me with the usuall "come back to Nigeria na", please this is not an attempt to denigrate your abroad heaven, just for me to rant out and be fine

If you leave Canada, where you likely be going?

can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good

Why does he want to save enough? He should come back to Nigeria and see if he'd be able to save 1/8 of it in 5 years. He's benefiting from the good economy and the functional society that makes him earn the money he's worked for unlike Nigeria and yet, he's still talking trash about same society.

Let me reach there first and experience the lonliness ur are talking about...
You know that the expectation going abroad is great that when you go and see it is not that rosy, you can't project it to your people down home

Why?

Because the expectation is high and no one will ever agree that you are having it tough. So most times what you see people enjoying and all that is them trying to project something to you down home. It's very tough in western world. You have all the basics like water, light, welfare etc and you can make some money and send home

But what many can't understand is lifestyle is totally different. I can relate to him not being able to talk to anyone. They are very independent here and lack community life. That's why they don't play with mental health. The whole system fu*ks up some individual head. Also hardship is of another form that you can't relate until you see it. The normal hardship will relate to is being not able to eat well, having no basic amenities etc. But in the western world they do have it but in another form not what you can relate to

This is in no way to discourag your pursuit of the greener pastures but sometimes it is good to have a better context of all these so that you won't come and start writing epistle like the OP or me...it is a different world out here but still pursue your dreams and know that you can never replace home

Canada, Europe and America can be a lonely place especially in the freezing winter, hence alota people have children, work long hours, go clubing every weekend, pick up different sex partners regularly or you go on vacations to other countries . So which ever works for you to fill in your loneliness you choose, however, some of these activities cost money apart from the working long hours cheesy and if you choose working long hours, you pay more taxes, you will not have any social life, you might end up sick from exaustion and other work related illnesses, and if you are working long hours at work, why paying rent for an empty flat, house or room that you are hardly ever living in grin if you are always at work.

Also in your case you relocated to Canada to just work and make money... well..if that is what you had in mind before relocating then Canada isn't for you, it should be a relocation entirely to live in Canada and make Canada your home permanently, by that i mean intergrate into Canadian society, invite friends for dinner, drinks, or babeques, attend events regurlarly, from birthdays, social gatherings, (not church or prayer houses) going for drinks with your work colleagues, forget your Naigerian friends you left in Naigeria to relocate, make new Canadian friends, Canada is not a place to live a single man or a single woman life without families or friends, don't keep just to yourself or you may end up becoming suicidal,

Don't wait till you earn $20k, go back to Naigeria as soon as possible if you feel you are not happy or fitting into Canada society, Canada or migration to Europe or America is not for every body, Europe, Canada or America can be very very very lonely....

This is why people are adviced not to come if they are not sure how they will survive physically and emotionally. Especially emotionally cheesy.. good luck.

your situation is unfortunate but changeable.

1. I believe that you are not married. if you have a loving and understanding spouse and children, then you should not be lonely

2. about the your savings not up tp 20k for 3 years, You need to be listening to a radio program on AM 930 (CJCA the light) called the Ramsey show.
Dave Ramsey teaches about finances and investment and his show has been a blessing to me and my wife concerning our finances.

3. I don't know if you work in a specialized field or not But I would advise you to get licenses or what they call Tickets here. this would help you get better paying jobs .
Things like the PMP certificate ,P.Eng( Engineering license) , Vet license etc. requires you to write exams which cost a lot of money and requires a lot of sacrifices but the advantages are phenomenal. besides, getting occupied with these preparation will help you pass time and you wont have time to be feeling lonely.

4. Finally. Never joke with prayer. God is the doer of wonders and only he can make all your efforts
yield good result.

PLEASE WATCH OUT AND DONT SLIP INTO DEPRESSION. you will be fine.

This country is not for extrovert

I enjoy Canada because I'm an introvert, and I love cold weather. But I understand that someone quite opposite me would hate to live here. I am also able to live well here because im always working and doing one thing after another. I know for a fact if i don't,i might get bored as well.

A human is not fulfilled by money. If you tell a poor man he won’t understand, but ask a rich person and they will tell you the truth.

Quality relationships are the key and it begins with your relationship with God.

You guys are really thinking like modern day slaves.

It's not today Africans started going abroad.

The first set left hundreds of years ago and some of them returned of their own accord.

I have former colleagues abroad now and most of them are regretting leaving their jobs here for abroad.

Unfortunately, it's too late to make a reversal. A lot has been committed already.

They are regretting because they went without proper planning. And for you to have such irresponsible and useless friends says a lot about your personality also. Stop keeping useless people as friends and acquaintances and see yourself grow!

You and your colleagues are the ones with slave mentality.

I think most Nigerians abroad are only there because Nigeria economy isn't good.

In fact, most would have come back home if the country it good.

The loneliness abroad isn't for the faint hearted. You've to be mentally strong to live in some places abroad especially where there are few numbers of blacks. In most cases, everyone minds their businesses including the blacks that one would think should be friends with you.

Leaving friends and family behind for greener pasture is not easy.

You'll be fine.

Poverty mentality. Did that money save Abba Kyari or the Ekiti Speaker that died?

Ignorant folks like you think everything can be gotten with money. Can you go to Ibadan without fear during the day, not even at night. Even if you have maximum security, you will still go to your church to do vigil because of it.

Apostle Suleiman the IndecentStar, was attacked even with the security in Edo! Think!

God, I hate people that the first words that come out of their mouth is "poverty mentality". They always see everything through poverty! Sickening!
Like people didn't die in USA, UK, Canada during covid-19 that killed Abba Kyari. Or, you were told that there are no facilities in some hospitals in Nigeria that compare to the ones in developed nations? You're ignorant.

And concerning security, people that die on daily basis through violence in USA far surpassed that of Nigeria.

You said Buhari will die of heart attack in Nigeria. That's what I pointed out as wrong. If you have the kind of resources of a Buhari, there's no reason you'll want to migrate to Canada or any Western nation.
That's my point. Not how many can afford good hospitals or not.

I didn't mock him. I only stated fact. Also, he's not obligated to inconvenient himself all because of family.

When you step out of familiar places to go out and look for money, you are bound to feel lonely. I grew up in Lagos and Ibadan. My families have been around in those same places. Four the past four years I have had to relocate and work in Asaba and I must confess it has not been easy living far from home. So it's natural and op should just understand that the experience is part of responsibilities that come with adulthood.

Only few can relate what this man is expressing. Experience they said is the best teacher. It's not always greener at the other side. Some people has never experience what it means to be lonely, depressed and unhappy with life even if you are surrounded with the so called amenities that we crave for.If you have lived abroad before, you will understand what the op is saying. I believe most people have heard about Billionaires committing suicide, has it ever occurred to you why som1 with everything that you dream of decides to take he's life. In life, you will get to a point where all that matters is your Peace of mind. Every country has its own peculiar challanges.
