Well well, for me sha, what gives me the most ick about Canada is the people.
I am not an extrovert but whenever I am working with people or around folks with whom I share common objectives (e.g classmates), I yearn for that communal vibe within and without. Often times, if you are not a best-friend, boy friend, cousin...close relative sha...they seek no form of real friendship with you, one that lasts long. I miss that.

It's easy to say, "put yourself out there", "join this and join that" but there is something refreshing about being able to have a good conversation with someone at the bus stop or the grocery shop. Come on, no one stays in their house 24/7, 365 days a year, but the people you meet in your day to day activities are what makes your life fufilling. I call it "the natural vibe from my father's land", nothing compares to that.
That being said Canada is indeed livable, and has all everything you need to live and work as a law-abiding citizen, but just like poutine, it can't be for everyone.

Earlier this year, I went back in time to few years back when I was doing so well in Nigeria. The noises from friends and all nurtured the decision to move abroad inside of me. I became so restless till I finally leave. The first day in Canada was the day I knew this place isn't where I can be forever. Most of us would have come back before the time we had in mind except for the fact that I don't still have enough. If I want to travel to naija for vacation now, I will need up to $4k. If I take that away from my savings, I don't know how I can recover.

No one tells about the downside of this place. I feel lonely, depressed and empty most times. Because no one to talk to, just everyone in my workplace goin about their business. If I make attempt to talk to them, they just waive it with a smile. It's been 3years here and the people I still talk to on video call are friends from Nigeria. It's been 3years and my savings is still Short of $20k despite how much my friends in Nigeria do tell me how easy it is for me to make money abroad but I never tell them my situation. I can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good. I know a lot will come at me with the usuall "come back to Nigeria na", please this is not an attempt to denigrate your abroad heaven, just for me to rant out and be fine

In life, you simply can’t have it all; there are millions of people in Nigeria that want your life in Canada.
Just stay focused, do what you need to do and thank God for his mercy forever..

Why not make friends, Do you have Nigerian community in your location or better still African community, are you in School, you will see some International student to discuss with . I dont know about your place but i presently reside in USA as a student and i can say virtually everyone want to have a conversation with me. Probably it is the setting of your work place. Go out for dinners and to the clubs. Make friends with elderly people. They are kind ,wiser, more exposed and approachable. The younger ones are quite difficult to have a conversation with. Where i am in the USA older men and women are my friends and usually very generous. Almost all my household items were gifts from them.

The truth is that Canada is lonely. Canadians are reserved and everyone mind their business but it's still far better than 9ja.
If you're married it's a nice place but if you are single and you are not the type that likes quite life the it may be difficult for you.
Anyways, I love Canada and I'm happy I'm here bro.

Let's trade places grin. You will be fine.

In this life, knowing what you want, why you want it, is very essential. One has to live above the noise and know why you are doing what you are doing.

But OP, some people are enjoying this abroad you are complaining about, such is life. What works for one may not work for the other.

What am I saying sef, long story short, know what you want, why you want it and why you are doing what you are doing, avoid the crowd mentality or the 'everybody is doing it' thingy.

I was like you before i left Nigeria.. majority of people that you say are enjoying living abroad wouldn't tell you the full story.. believe me

what's your definition of enjoyment?

He's talking about loneliness not enjoyment.

You might even have money and yet be lonely.

You're a black living in the midst of whites. Do you know what it means ?

Imagine being the only black in your office and the neighbourhood.

Trust me money can't solve everything

When he relocated to Canada, what was he expecting? A black majority locality? I don't understand some of you people o. You left Nigeria - the world's most populous black nation - to Canada yet whine that there are very few blacks around? You no read the demographics of Canada before you enter the country ni? Do you know the results of having many blacks within a particular area?

I currently live in Hong Kong. I got a scholarship opportunity to Canada but declined it. The loneliness, cold, heavy tax and all that, I can't deal. The truth is, those that have never travelled out of Nigeria see these places as heaven, until they learn the hard way.

You went to Hong Kong yet you say Canada is very lonely So, how is Hong Kong very lively for a black woman? Tell me, I am very curious. I don't understand some of you people o. So Hong Kong is not heaven compared to anywhere in Nigeria? shocked Unless you get to reside in Hong Kong after your studies, I don't see how the low taxes will benefit you.

"Learn the hard way". Could you please explain how someone who migrated legally from Nigeria to Hong Kong will learn the hard way?

Thank God say I follow dey this abroad una dey complain about, because if I was still in Nigeria, I would be believing anything most of you write here. You people surprise me a lot.

Yea, but then, also talk of the heavy taxes you pay with little savings. I have Canadians where I live who came to seek greener pastures here. If it was so much of a great place to live, I then wonder what these guys are doing here. Anyways, I agree it's easier getting PR and citizenship which is quite tough in other places.

This is the thing I have been preaching on NL - the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs regarding relocation. You are comparing yourself - a black African - to oyibos who japa'd. Both of you are not the same. Oyibo migrated to Hong Kong - another functioning place - for greener pastures. The oyibo did not relocate to a country in Africa. Yet, according to you, because oyibo left Canada, then it is wrong for Nigerians to leave Nigeria to Canada. So, what about the Chinese who left the same Hong Kong where you are to Canada and the UK? What about Indians who leave their country for Australia, UK and Canada? Are you saying those countries are not greener pastures for new migrants? Why the Chinese wey dey Hong Kong no stay for there since it is green simply because a Canadian left Canada? Why the Hong Konger no relocate enter Tanzania?

Most Nigerians live to eat.
A typical rich Nigerian sees food, cars, houses as luxury (living the good life)

Lad... You are right to have spoken of loneliness and depression, because even if you lived in Buckingham palace and still had this feelings, you are not living life.

I think what you need is a vacation to Nigeria or anywhere else you can just be yourself even if for a week or two.

A lot my bro. I drive to work, 1 hour every day, here in the US and that 1 hour no go pass one hour, rather, it will be less. Life is so easy here in America.
The stress in Naija go reduce your life span over time.
The level of sanity here is overwhelming. Because people are educated, literate and developed, they most times do the right right. The driving on the road is so sane, nobody scratches your car, curse or abuse you or drive you nuts like driving in Naija.

Orderliness, very organized. Kinder humans, who won’t envy, poison or put your life in danger.

Me and my wife dey park our car for road. The security of life and property is better. The houses no get fence oo and na wood they carry build most of them.

There is no perfect place for sure. That man is just not logical and smart enough to reason things well.
When your advantage out weighs your disadvantage, then you are good.

The water here is so pure, no malaria.

Guy the good things here are much more to ignore the few bad things.

Countless places for vacations and sightseeing, and not just going to beer parlor to drink beer. E.g. hot springs. Mountains, rivers, beaches.

Beautiful babes too, wey fine like angels.

Your problem is simple. Learn an online skill to Max out your income- try joining Andrew Tate's the real world (trw) or choose however you like to acquire the online skill then monetise it. Your job in Canada will never allow you to flex the way you envisaged it back in Nigeria. Inside that same Canada, there are girls making 100k dollars or more a month on Onlyfans- you get my drift!
Those girls are not smarter than you, you just need to escape the matrix.Canada no dey sweet you because your money no dey go around wella compared to when you dey naija. Once you start earning enough money, then you can relocate to eastern Europe or you fit come back Namibia or Rwanda. If you don cross this country and you get better money - plenty of places you can live in where cost of living is low compared to Canada. Places like Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Namibia etc. Just be careful if you select Thailand, they have the highest number of transsexuals or 'ladyboys' > grin

You get the drift!

I know it is hard for black women in places with few black people, but for a black man who knows his onions and is well-paid or financially comfortable, life should not be hard. If it is too boring for someone in Canada, fly to the US to mingle with your kith. Move to seemingly functioning places in Africa to flex life. This life no too hard, people suppose to use their number 6 to navigate life.

I currently live in Alberta Canada, and I can tell you that the people who enjoy this place are those who came along with their spouses and or kids.

It can be pretty lonely down here for a single guy/lady. My best advise is once you come here look for a Nigerian community and associate yourself with the people in that community. It’s not a good idea to live all by yourself. We are not used to living that way in Nigeria.

One benefit of living here is you can become a citizen in just 3years. After that you can decide to go work in the US, Australia or return to Nigeria if you want. You have to be strategic. Don’t just move for moving sake.

There is money here if you’re in the right profession. There is peace of mind here as well. For me the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

Living in Nigeria has its numerous disadvantages as well. It’s up to you to decide what you want.

Human wants/needs are indeed insatiable.

Una go complain about Naija, complain about U.S., complain about U.K...so so complain.

Carry dem go heaven dem go still complain say the place too white or the angels clothes as dem depict am to us too bright...haba..

God, nature, and the universe abhors ingratitude and complains to no end.
Why would your savings not perpetually be hovering below the 20k mark when all you see and do is negatives?

Una no understand life and her workings.

You attract what you exhude...logic, but not a simple one to wrap an immature and inexperirnced mind around.

Whiners....

Make una get to work and mould your ideal country. We dey wait.

Integration, acclimatization, and adjustment are always foreign to you whiners and negativists.

NB
Are Nigerians the only people emigrating to the West?

Go to the US, Canada, and the UK to understand that Nigerians are learners in migration.

These other immigrants particularly the Indians and Latinos migrate in droves, set up businesses, and taking up much of the business spaces while helping each other grow and expand.

Buy our own na "I want be the only one to succeed so that every one go dey worship me and if I fail in that regards, I'd start canceling and discouraging emigration over unfounded half-truths".

The US for example was made by immigrants and slaves and is today a melting pot of every culture in the world because it is what it is.

There are enough jobs that they do not have citizens willing to do them and the immigrants of today whose home countries are nothing to write about are picking up these jobs with all pleasure and raking in fantastic earnings.

Sickening...
From your comment I just know that u have never travel abroad. U think to save 20k thousands dollars in three years is easy? How many Canadian person have above 20k savings in their account? You think Canada is Nigeria u don't pay for bills? The western world is just design to make u comfortable and not rich. The more you earn the more you are been tax and bills increases. The life all those Indian are living trust me we can't live it. 5 India man fit sleep for one room to avoid bills for the next two to three years so that he can gather money and also India community also tend to donate money for people to setup when dey just newly moved to that country in that community

They don't die in the abroad ? Stay there dey argue. There are always different sides to the coin. For instance, do you know the statistics of Americans with no medical insurance ? You won't understand as they have told you. Not all that glitters is gold. Just hope that you are successful in your life. Poor dey everywhere. If success finds you in Africa that is your Canaanland! If You see the poor in the glorified abroad, you would understand the gist!

You still don't get it. And stop drifting away from reality. Even Buhari will likely die if he should have a heart attack! Can the National Hospital handle it? No!

Mr. Osinbajo had a surgery in a private clinic in Lagos and it was celebrated. Shame!

Go and read my first comment and digest properly, this time, slowly!

And no, I'm not glorifying the developed nations, it's just the reality.

I’ll tell you what , I completely get where you’re coming from. Moving to Canada as an adult is very difficult because a lot of people here form their life time friends in high school or uni

But to start with, saving 20K in your first 3 years here is certainly not bad . Especially if you have no major consumer debt . A lot of people here live pay cheque to pay cheque . Keep doing whatever helped you get the 20K and look for ways to grow that 20K . E commerce side hussle , trading etc . And try to pick up a hobby , there’s soccer leagues you can join ,some with Nigerians in your situation also looking to connect, …church community ?

Maybe you’re already doing all these with no luck but just wanna say youre doing great and things can only get better . If you need a reset take two weeks off in non peak period, you’ll get cheap tickets <2k to Naij , and recharge . By time you come back you’ll appreciate certain aspects of Canada you started to take for granted

I've always made my dislike for Canada known on this forum from day one. I can understand if one has no other options of a better place to live, but Canada should be the extreme bottom of choice if you have options.

I have visited Canada lots of times and just hates it there. Too depressing, boring, freezing cold and dark. Snows everywhere like huge heap of sand, and people hardly mix.

Just get the passport and leave. But to call it your permanent home, you must be one hell of a kind of a person.
Canada is a bloody overrated shithole. That is why more and more immigrants that they lured in with the fake Canadian paradise stories are now packing up and returning home.

No, I'm not but the probability of you being an inhabitant of Banana Island is relatively zero and wether you live there or not, you are likely to die before 60 years in Nigeria!

It's the reality y'all should face but then, many of you are ignorant and gullible to believe that your pastor will pray for long life for you, thereby enriching those con men.
You're the one who will die before 60 since that's what you believe and my preference has nothing to do with probability. Banana Island isn't the only stately neighborhood in Africa, there's Sandton. If the probability of living in Banana Island is zero, it means you agree it's better than Canada because I can easily go to Canada, it has a high probability, I even have tons of relatives there that can facilitate the move. So what are you now talking? Better rest and start digging your grave before 60 since you want to die soon.

Dude, even if you have slurry speech or any signs if stroke, if you get medical care immediately, there's higher probability the impact will be low. Now, if your governor should have such case, he will likely end up become useless because it will take long before getting to the clinic!

Gov. Akeredolu was being treated for malaria meanwhile he had COVID, that's how bad the health sector is! If the pandemic was not a global issue, Abba Kyari and many of the elites would have fled the country for better healthcare, including your Buhari.
I don't know what you mean by getting medical care immediately. There are hospitals with ambulance facilities in ikoyi and VI that people access in 15 mins or less than.

A governor had a plane crash and he was first treated in Nigeria before being flown out. Same for the president's son.

I don't know about Akeredolu being treated for malaria while he had covid. He should blame his physicians and not the Nigerian health system. Covid came with its peculiarities. Kyari got covid in Germany and not Nigeria. One wonders why they didn't detect it and give him the necessary treatment there before he left.
Buhari didn't access his favorite UK medicals for over a year during covid and nothing happened to him.
Yes. Nigerian healthcare is comatose but it is not presently as bad as you're painting it. Especially for the elites. They're just used to traveling out for medicals and are not prepared to change it anytime soon.

I wonder why you can't just relocate.

It's simple, there was a reason why you left for Canada in the first place, since you're not achieving your aims just relocate back, after all you didn't make all the money in Nigeria before traveling, you don't have to make all the money in Canada before coming back home.

Just bring back the little you've made and continue your hustling here.
