I understand this post but there are still good people who may need help and wouldn't take it for granted or overstay. I think while we filter those friends, we also let those we feel we can allow know that the staying would be with a date.

A man accommodated his friend and his wife who had house problems. He ga e them a room, and after sometimes, they started having issues, which resulted to a fight. In the process, the two wives fought themselves, and the wife of the man that was accompanied pushed down the wife of the man that accompanied them who was at the time pregnant. It depends, if you must accommodate anyone temporarily, make sure he's gainfully employed...maybe he had accommodation issues, and needed somewhere to stay pending when he'll sort himself out. If that's the case I'd say open your doors to him, cos he won't be a parasite to you and would even assist in sorting out general bills.

But if he has nothing doing, say like he relocated to your state for greener pastures, or just came up with some flimsy excuse to put up with you temporarily, my brother respectfully decline his request cos from experience, most jobless guys are chronic womanizers, they're home all day so they have all the time in the world to ask every single girl in the neighborhood out.

Your house would most likely be converted into brothel. And every single drink in your fridge along with other provisions would be consumed without mercy by him and his numerous female visitors.

He'll borrow little sums of money like 1-2k almost on a daily basis from you under the guise of going for interview and wouldn't pay back until you get fed up and stop giving him, he'll put on your clothes and shoes to go on dates without your permission, monies and other valuables would keep missing in your house and he'll deny ever seeing them, he'll collect provisions on credit from literally every shop in the neighborhood using your name as collateral. He'll be a thorn in your flesh and you'll keep quarrelling each day until you wouldn't be able to take it anymore and ask him to leave...my experience wasn't a funny one. That's why I've vowed never to engage in such unnecessary charity anymore

You are wrong with this ascertion. I remembered vividly 29 of May 2010, I was called for an interview in Ajaokuta kogi state and I reside in Kaduna. Which I boarded a car to Abuja and to be sincere I had no idea where the company that called me was located. I just knew I will get to my destination with Faith. We got to Lokoja around 10pm because I Left Kaduna late around after 4pm. A good Samaritan engaged me in discussion and I told him about my journey. He said it was late already that I should try and lodge in an hotel. I told him I can't afford any. He gladly took me to his house. Even though, his younger brother had second thoughts but he told him that it is good to be of help to others. I slept and proceeded the following morning. May Almighty God always locate that dude with His favor and mercy always. I will never stop praying for him.

A Local Food Vendor protected my wife at Waterlines junction in Port Harcourt at night. My wife had to pass the night in their thatch house.

I had a terrible experience accommodating someone via proxy, and I almost paid with my life.

I have resolved in my heart to only help people from a distance.

Op, you no lie at all... when I was in 300 level in uni, na so my guy for school beg me to stay in my place, so that he can finish his final year clearance, since his room rent has expired.
So I just told him to move in, since we are good friends, can you imagine that this guy brought his girlfriend to come and join us 3 days later, without even informing me, na when I come back from lecture ,I come dey see lady's stuffs, I come ask the mumu, he begin dey beg me, been that I hardly say "No" to people I decided to accommodate both of them, but I was not happy at all.
I wasn't even comfortable in my own room.
People always take advantage of the fact that I'm too nice , but now i no dey gree make dem use me.
