Ignorance at it's peak. Igbo women don't get property from their father but from their husbands doesn't mean they were relegated, it's just a way of discouraging divorce. Do research on umuada, a strong democratic institution of women who weild so much power. As for OSU, it's equivalent to "city of refuge" in the Bible. These are people who were marked for elimination either for actually committing serious crime or falsely being accused. Once you go to a village with a powerful shrine and declared yourself osu you become untouchable and under special protection from the shrine. This is far ahead in evolution than execution by powerful kings

At the end of slave trade Benin empire collapsed, ijaw and Igala power collapsed, but Aro waxed stronger because it traded commodities of the rain forest while others only traded slaves. During early colonial era, British trading company overran yorubaland while Aro continue to control the Eastern trade till 20th century. Dispersed settlement and decentralized polical power was suitable for our way of life and put us ahead of others in modern competitive world
