1. No. They can hold skilled worker visas independently.
2. Yes. The employer does not have any responsibility over a skilled worker's dependents except perhaps in the initial stage of saying they'd provide upkeep for the first month or so. Once you have the skilled worker visa, adding dependents or whatever other modification is between you and home office.

So the answer can safely be no.

The overarching issue to bear in mind though is with regard to counting toward ILR, if you're intending to switch back and forth between visa types you should check the rules.

From Home Office -

"Your partner can include time they’ve spent as your dependant on another visa to count towards the continuous years they need to qualify. They cannot count any time spent on their own visa (not as your dependant)." Read more here - https://www.gov.uk/indefinite-leave-to-remain-tier-2-t2-skilled-worker-visa/family-members

3. A few days. You might even get it delivered before the email telling you to expect it comes in.

Over 10 working days and no BRP sent via post. Plus no email saying they will send it. Called UKVI today and they said I won't get a new BRP, because I used the app during my application, so my picture was captured etc. Please does anyone have this experience of updating their visa from student to skilled worker dependent visa and then no new BRP? Instead just a status update online. Can I travel out and return to UK without a valid BRP? Thanks ahead

They trying to phase out the BRP card to app based. So I think you are good.

UKVI said they are looking to completely phase out physical BRP’s by December 2024. So I think any issuance that’s seen as unnecessary is being dropped. I don’t think you’ll have issues if you have official correspondence to that effect.

Netflix woke up this morning to realise I'm in the UK, so they migrated my Naija account to the UK and requested that I pay about £11 for my monthly subscription. Something that I was paying N2,900 for in Naija. shocked

Abeg, does anyone know a good Naija VPN to use on PC and mobile?

Can't afford paying 11 pound (Almost 10k) when I can pay about 3k Naira for the same service. After all, I'm still a Nigerian. grin

I need to quote this long post I made just to be sure you read it.

My sister. Want to ask u something. Is it possible for one's credit score to increase without having to devise the cc or borrow and pay back on time method.

Cant someone just live his life normally, earn his salary, and use his card to buy something with the money in his card. Wont this also increase credit score?
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by lightnlife: 12:35am On Dec 23, 2022
It depends on the long term UK goal of the person in question.

A friend of mine who's less than a year in the country has a score 860 (out of 1k) on Experian.

She has no credit card neither used any credit service. I've persuaded her to get a credit card but she's not interested. She only pays her bills and reported and rent. In fact, she didn't know of credit reporting or score until I showed, however the score was adding up because she was meeting her financial obligations.

She says she's not interested in getting a mortgage or any credit facility in the UK as she wants to relocate after getting ILR or Citizenship.

So, living one's normal life can improve the score and ratings, perhaps at a slow pace. But without credit history, loan credibility might be low when one is hunting for a deal.

Again, it depends on the long term UK goal.

Almost impossible.

Apply online. Take your chances ( around 15% ) Provided you have a credit file already and you drop a substantial deposit(upfront).

Even if her goal is to relocate, I believe there are ways to leverage your UK credit history to get better credit in the US or EU.
Why not get a CC, use it for regular shopping and just setup direct debit to pay it off?

Good morning my people, please I need your advice.

I applied for a dependant Visa for my daughter from inside UK. I have submitted the application and I have paid the fees but the convenient appointment date that I'm getting is 18th of January but by that time her current BRP and Visa would have expired. Hope she won't be classified as an overstayer at that time.

You can I believe.

A friend of mine who's been here four years didn't do anything credit or credit card according to him. He also didn't check his credit score. He needed to do something one time and was required to get a credit card, he got one, checked his score and it was excellent. Thing is I can't tell if he obtained any form of credit along the line without realising it.

Dependant of Skilled worker or student or ...
In any case, AFAIK, the rule of 'renewal' kicks in. Simply put, won't be overstayer
For instance, Skilled worker (former Tier 2): www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/extend-your-visa

Hi, here my is story, when I came in last year, I started applying for as many as data analyst role to to my skills set, not any work experience. I stopped applying when my wife failed one of her courses which makes me look in the way of searching for care jobs that could sponsor visa because it was stated that she might not be eligible cos of the failure, but luckily for us she was given the opportunity to resit for assessment due to child birth that made her failed the course at first attempt.

I enrolled into masterschool and I can tell i am now having lots of confidence compared to when I first came in. They are offering lots of support and most of our tutors in masterschool class session are people working in top IT companies.

I am just less than 2 months in to the program and I am always very hopeful that I will be able to secure job before or after the end of the course.

I actually conducted my research about masterschool by checking in some of their alumni and I was made known by someone that it really worth it.

After all, it is until you secure a job or 25k and above that they can start taking their payment and also, it is 10% of your monthly payment which makes it flexible enough till you complete the full payment of 11k£

NB: You ain’t paying any dime yet even if the your pay is less than 25k£ annually.

I was also made know that the master school interview simulation process is more rigorous that then actual real life interviews which will make it to scale through interview stages.

It’s has really been helpful.

Projects upon projects with guidance from lots of top guys in data analytics, data engineering, data science.

You will be supported till you land your first job even after the completion of the program.

Masterschool is a big company with worth of over a hundred million dollars.
can i PM u ?

It is very unlikely. The idea of credit score (and history) is to know your integrity with borrowing and repaying. A Bank won't want to give you £200k for a house when they haven't seen proof you can be trusted to repay.

You guys need to stop pitching credit card.

You can survive in the UK and live a very comfortable life without them.

Well, there are so many advantages of having a credit card aside building credit score
1. Some airlines would only accept credit card payments when paying at the airport (e.g ryanair)
2. Chargebacks and claiming refunds.
3. Emergency funds safety net

Sometimes you just need to wait

Too many applications in a short period of time will work against you

You've just applied to get onto the electoral register which is good. Credit worthiness also takes into account proof of identity, address and stability (length of time at a registered address) all of which being on the register will help, and your score should increase in time the longer you are on the register.

What are you saying? In a country where literally everything is credit based, why will you shortchange yourself by avoiding credit?

If you’re so risk averse, you set up protections to ensure your payments aren’t late. Having a credit card isn’t a passport for uncontrolled spending, so I don’t know what your problem is.
