It depends on what your priorities are. Many go for different reasons.

I don't count it as success and I will reject the opportunity to go at least for now.

I want to make it big in Nigeria.

Recently a family friend of ours - a very successful man with lots of properties called to announce their relocation to the UK.

Is this the new success or just a herd mentality?
UK is good country if you get there with a good job offer, who says is not a good success...

I'll prefer to be a billionaire in Nigeria then I can travel round the world for vacation at any time
Yeah, like being a billionaire is as easy as a flick of a finger.... Minimum wage is 30k.
With a Western passport, one can Travel to almost anywhere in the world without actually being a billionaire

You never can tell as it's case to case basis. A large proportion would be herd mentality, while others would be to gain their sanity back, as most Nigerians have mental issues without being aware.

I can relate. I swear if you stay in a place like Lagos, and you're u used to its nominal ups and downs, you're mad already unknowingly. Because, you just need to be kola to tangle in Lagos. grin

The real rich people don't relocate abroad. No Nigerian billionaires and millionaires relocate abroad. Will people like Adeleke, otedola, Arthur Eze, Obi Cubana for instance relocate abroad?? To do what?? They only go their for businesses and vacations.
But where are their children?

What do you know?
Just imagine a country without PDP, APC, Boko Haram, bandits, Nigerian police, militants, hunger, poverty, hopelessness etc.
Even if it is just the waking up and sleeping in peace in your apartment after work that you do in UK, it is better than any properties you have in Nigeria where your life is meaningless to killers roaming the country on daily basis

the problem with Nigerians they think money is everything.

a) peace of mind

b) security

c) good weather.

Nigeria can't guarantee you what I listed above even with money.

Good weather?

Peace of mind?

Where I live, I enjoy these two.

Op, most of these people are not relocating or merely migrating.

They are literally fleeing!

Many of them know they will be starting from scratch in those advanced nations, as second class citizens no less, but they are more than willing to take this route.

Why are you focused on another person's moves. Define your own success and go after it. To some, stability in a sane society is success, To some, having lots of assets/money is success. Focus less on your neighbour. Instead of defining or redefining success, why not focus on what makes you fulfilled as a person and go for it.
By the way, what if your neighbours have secured themselves financially, and the next for them is to look for a place where they want to have peace of mind n opportunities for their kids.

Sit down here don't follow the herd. I hope Tomorrow when your kids would ask you where you were when your mates were relocating you won't feel bad.

It truly is not about you being comfortable I.e financial wise. How about your security??

I was in a garden around my area yesterday and started a conversation with a guy. I didn't even know that me and this guy live I the same estate, his house is like 5 houses from mine. He told me that his sister was kidnapped by heavily armed individuals 2 weeks ago and was released after a ransom of 10M was paid. I was so scared because where they picked her and several othersb up was very close to the house. An area of Abuja where the current IG has his family home ( where is wife and kids reside) obviously the area was meant to be safe. I went online to Google just to know if the story was true and I don't even see a post from a regular social media user let alone a news outlet. In my mind the guy was washing me so I started asking random people in the garden if it was true and a few confirmed to me that it was true

I used to be a proponent of "someday Nigeria would get better". I believed so much in Nigeria that I ended a relationship with a lady because she wanted to leave the country so bad and wanted us to live abroad when we got married. I mean i had the means to relocate then but I chose to sit tight and hope it would get better.

My brother the sad truth is that things may never get better especially given the fact that we have several fundamental challenges as a federation that no politician/leader is willing to address.

Right now I'm actively in the process of relocating to a country where I know I'll be a second class citizen but its almost certain that I may never be kidnapped as long as I'm there.

Thank you.

I've been wanting to ask what's the definition of 'Success' these days.

Money, Cars, Women, Educational Qualification, Ability to travel round the word, Freedom to pursue one ambition, Political relevance etc.

I'm interested in the sense of fulfillment after the success must have come.

It’s being in an environment that gives you opportunities to succeed

Imagine he bought the property during Goodluck at 7.5mN, today it will be worth 2mN in reality (adjust for inflation and devaluation)

But Someone that cleans nyash (sorry I don’t use such crass words but have to say it exactly as it is) in the UK makes more than a professor in Nigeria
