Thanks everyone for all that you do. I would like to apply for application for Fall 2023, but I have some questions and concerns.
I currently work in Nigeria and make just around 100k monthly. I am also married with 2 kids. My younger sister works in the US and she is planning on being my sponsor. She has a total of 40000 Canadian dollars equivalent and her car documents. I also have about 1 million naira personal savings, small sized agribusiness farm and few plots of remote land. Do you think I stand any chance considering that the funds she has isn’t really much, also she is younger than I am?
All contributions and opinions are highly welcome and appreciated. Thanks

Please can someone share the link to request the CBSA GCMS notes - someone on Canada wants to request - not the IRCC one pls

Yes, you stand a chance. If possible, apply with the kids only, and let your spouse apply after you arrive in Canada.

This is a bit strange, I've never seen anyone denied after PPR request, did you get your BVL alongside the PPR or what and did you on anyway track your application?

Simti:
Dear nairalanders,
I hope we are all doing well?

Please, I need suggestions on my next point of action as regards my study application.

Here is my story,

I applied for a study permit on the 26th of March 2022 with my two years old daughter. I indicated that my husband and my two older children will be staying behind in Nigeria pending my return. I did an upfront medical before I submitted the application.

In the process, I noticed that my medicals was updated in a pending visitors application I did with my husband in 2020 which till now has not been attended to probably because of the applications had the same name but my daughter's own was updated correctly.

Fast forward to the 12th of september, 2022 I got a medical request from IRCC. I also got another update on the 13th of september I.e the next day of a passport request. I actually thought that my medicals have been seen hence the passport request.

I acted upon sending my upfront medical slip to IRCC through the webform and went ahead to submit my passport to IRCC on the 15th of September 2022.

I did not receive an update from IRCC for almost two months until the 25th of November when I got a refusal correspondence stating two reasons:
1. My stay not being consistent with a temporary stay in Canada
2. My course of study not being in line with career/ previous education.

I was really devastated to say the least. My passport was returned to me unprocessed. I sent a message to them severally about my situation and I got a reply on the 15th of December that the application is still in process. I really do not understand.

I have made steps to request for the CBSA notes which I am yet to receive. My course has started so I am thinking on starting online to enable me hold on to the admission as I cannot defer anymore.
I am thinking for them to have requested my passport, I probably still have a shot with this application so losing the admission may be detrimental to me.

What do you guys think? I really need advice pls. I have not heard back from IRCC and I do know if the application is truly still in process as they said because my status still shows refused.

I really need advice as I am about to make financial commitments for the spring term cos the payment deadline is fast approaching.

If I decide to reapply again, can I change my intended course of study as my first degree was a bachelors in Economics and I was going in for a second degree in bachelors of public health more like an after degree program which runs for two years.

I explained why I was changing careers in my SOP and all.

What really puzzles me is why will IRCC request for my passport and still refuse my application based on my course of study?

I am really confused. Any ideas on what i can do?
Thank you.

Must you say you are masters degree holder. Just apply with your BSC abeg.
[/quote:

It’s a red flag for a Master's degree holder to go for an undergraduate diploma. However, it is not impossible to get the study permit approved if you have a strong reason for opting for the program.
2. HND is equivalent to Advanced Diploma. So, let the person apply for a Postgraduate program.

If you are not a recent graduate, VOs expect your program of study to be related to your occupation, not necessarily previous education.

@bullstriker : provided you have the proof of funds for the entire duration of ur studies.

Please I want to know if it's possible to just pay the first deposit of like 1600-3000 cad requested by some of the colleges for a 1year course, then use the receipt and admission letter to apply for student visa with personal pof here. Would they likely approve they application?

Each province decides the age of a minor. For a study permit, a minor is someone less than 17 years and can apply to travel with a parent or legal guardian. I believe this situation does not apply to you.

Yes, you can pay the minimum deposit requested by the school.
They would if your PoF meets the requirement and you address other aspects of your application like ties, career progression etc

@ bullstriker Please can I apply to Fanshawe college through you?

It is a one-year program, and you will be eligible for a one-year PGWP upon completion.
The school can’t add holidays to the duration.

Hello house, pls I need advice.
I would like to sponsor my younger brother to study in canada.
His first degree is Remote sensing and Geoscience information system.. 2 years ago but he has been working as an IT Support Analyst for 2 year now.
He wants to continue in his IT field so I am wondering which will be better.
A BSC in Computer Networking field or Post graduate Diploma? 1year or 2 years course?
What are his chances of getting visa?
I am also concerned about fee.
I would appreciate if any can help with list of affordable schools too.

Thank you.

Apply for an upfront medicals now so when they are done with your visa they can easily request for passport than going through the stress of going for medicals after they have requested it after it have been updated on ur portal then you will have to wait for ppr
So its better you go for ur medicals now

Please I need help with info on switching courses/school.

My sister was advised to apply for a course related to her current job in Nigeria, because her BSc degree was completed 10years ago. Note that she doesn't like her current job (Marketing in a Bank) and would like to switch to a totally different course/career in Canada. She already has admission for a Marketing Graduate Certificate with the help of an agent, as they insist she'll get a refusal if the course is not related to her current job. Next step is for her to pay acceptance fee which is non-refundable, then 1st year fees deposit of 9k CAD by June 2023.

My question, can she get another admission in the course she prefers, but apply for a study visa with the Marketing LOA then switch afterwards? At what point would she switch courses? After or before landing? Will she still report to the 1st school and will they refund 1st year fees deposit or it's money wasted? Has anyone done this at Postgraduate level?

Please help, so she doesn't waste her time and resources. Thanks in advance
