grin grin I don't see the point really. Tribalism wasn't as disturbing as we see it play out now. Under the military, Lagos had an Igbo governor. I believe some southeast states had yoruba/hausas.

They were not governors but administrators. Don’t confuse the two. Nobody voted for them. The AFRC put them there and it was usually done through lobbying and loyalty to senior officers.

There’s nothing stopping anybody to contest anywhere in Nigeria other than your bigotry and tribalism. Yyibbos started it.

So get off the de-railing write up.

Honestly Ive been saying it that I think Nigeria should return to the military era. Seems like this democracy is actually been our problem in this country. We are so messed up in this country. Our mindsets, like us it that this money will last you till the next four years or what? Have you ever heard of vote buying in other sane countries? Like why is this country cursed.

Obi rode on the back of Religion, Endsars and ethnicity , it was really dangerous, many politicians stylishly use it, but OBI used it as a main policy, thank God he didn’t win.

He exploited these three very well, but I hope those that think it favors them will be able to take it when another candidate of Muslims extracts used the same method from the North.

Because, no Christian from the North will be able to stand the fanaticism they will introduce. I can assure that Igbos will leave the North in a hurry.

It is so wrong for a pastor to come on the pulpit to campaign for OBI and also threaten fire and brimstone when he lost. Others are watching and I am sure they will employ the same methods some day.

The aftermath of the ripples and effects is what you see playing out in Lagos state.
Your stupidity is when a Muslim - Muslim ticket doesn't seem like a religious subdugation to you over the christians...oloshi

A military interim government will be cheaper and better. Democracy in Nigeria is too expensive and fraught with fake democracy activists who are really pro-oligarchs and feudal. This election have proven that.

Let a Supreme military council (SMC) choose leaders until urchins learn how to play true democracy.

When the SMC is ready to relinquish power, they must strengthen the electoral system and make sure that pirates and buccaneers who plunder our electoral system with their evil structures like Mahmoud Yakubu and co.. are removed from circulation.

The SMC must institute an electronic voting system, after accreditation with the BVAS, you simply press a finger on a machine like the hand-held BVAS, thumbprint for the party you want, and it goes to the collation center IREV where the whole world will see the votes in REAL-TIME as it counts.

Thiefnubuu the mandate thief can never give us a strong electoral system like that. He believes so much in his violent thugs and bribed INEC official like Yakubu Mahmoud interfering manually with out votes. OLE buruku!

THe north controls the military, the north has just been elected to power now through Tinubu. the north wont bring in army so as not to displease the western world who is backing them always to be in power, so you see, there wont be military take over. Anyone who believes a mandate will be returned is wasting his time, Tinubu will be sworn in come may 29.
moreover if you believe the outcome of the election is as a result of only tinubu influence , then you are a complete fool, backings from the core northern oligarchy, key northern politicians, influential capitalist, western world etc. if you all think some one like PO and the GRV with ties to IPOB will be allowed near seat of power, then you need to have your head examined .!
whatever is happening in lag to Igbos currently, they brought it upon themselves. Madam Oby didn't say anything when the same tactics of vote bullying was massively deployed in SE during presidential elecction, buh she is crying wolf now. two can play the game !

The funny thing about this thread are the number of fans of army rule that have sprung up.

These people are Peter Obi supporters whose side lost, and who, in their anger, think that army rule is the way to stop Tinubu from taking over.

At the end of the day, they are mad their side lost, and are basically calling for victory to be taken away from the winning side because of their anger.

Typical human nature.

I know tho, that if it was Tinubu people who lost, they too would be calling on the army to take over. Some of them were during the PDP admin calling on the army to remove PDP from power.

At the end, people need to understand that in democracy, there are winners and losers. The last thing we need is a coup. It is not like the millitary era was any better anyway, it was even worse in many ways.

Anyway, too bad PDPAPCLPNNPP would be ruling us again for another 4 years.

Now you guys are waking up to see why some of us don't own a pvc, never have voted and consider restructuring more important than elections.

Democracy will always trump any form of dictatorship however because democracy is a nation advancing on the ideas of all people's and not limited by the will and competencies of a few.

But in Nigeria's case the people cannot on their own wake up and take responsibility for their own collective good.

It is clear this new government will be business as usual and Nigeria will certainly be worse for it in all aspects that matter by 2027. Anyone thinking otherwise is just deceiving himself.

No matter the quality of food, if served with dirty utensils will leave a legacy of illness, not the remembrance of satiety.

This is where restructuring comes in, to sanitize all society by setting the ground rules for a collective, pan Nigeria value system. A sort of making the rules of the game of life and progressive living before play starts, not after.

One can see how the typical Nigerian thinks. It is always short 'termish', only about 'winners' and 'losers' not about the quality of the process that would make the quality of the product, which will in turn determine the experience of the user or consumer.

If your pure water was made this way, with the exchange of money for compromises will you drink it in that knowledge.

How about if you discover that the grand looking building you live in is compromised similarly, ir the car you drive, the aircraft you fly, the drugs you take or the quack doctor who is about to perform an intervention.

But Nigerians don't think this far or will not search this deep to find out why their beloved country simply cannot make headway despite two and a half decades of democracy, countless elections costing them trillions of naira.

Can you personally spend so much time, effort and expense on anything in life and still make no progress and be contented....

..and the dollars politicians spend to give delegates to win their party primaries election...so a lot money spent on election .where we have a lot of nigerians living in poverty... independent candidatcy will be better option,... this party politics does not give youths the chance to emerge as the presidential candidate and it's expensive and monetize...that is why this country needs restructuring

Army rule was no better, and even worse.

Plus what is a superior authority? Is it not the same corrupt people form Nigeria that make up the army?

Please, no make me laugh.

Army rule was a nightmare. As much as I am angry about this democracy, it is better we don;t go back there.

Army rule has its pros and cons just like this quazi-democracy.
Pros of military rule
Nigerians were more united. No tribalism or tribal hatred among Nigerians. Nigerian were living in all parts of Nigeria without molestation or oppression from tribalists or religious extremists. Isolate cases of religous extremism was quickly dealt with by the military. No sharia,no militancy, no cultists.

Anyone could be governor of any state irrespective of tribe. Lagos has had igbo military Governors twice and no one complained.

Cheaper.
Military regime was far more Cheaper than the present democracy. Power charged hand by simple coup and state governments by simple appointments. This last election cost Nigerians close to half trillion. This will more or less wasted every 4 years.

Another area of cost savings under military is political offices and appointments. Under military regimes the head of state and governors have very little appointments, the number of ministers, special assistants, senior special assistants, advisers, special advisers, etc, are very few. Under democracy, apart from commisioners, there are a plethora of assistants, special assistants, senior special assistants, etc. Governor Wike alone appointed over 200,000 special assistants in one go, all to be paid from state coffers.

Then there is the cost of the legislature. Under military there is not legislature. So the cost of running national assembly and state assembly for each state is non existent.

These were the reason why there were more public investments in infrastructure during military regimes than democracy.

Let me add Less Corruption.
Under military corruption was an oligarchy. Only the head of state, his family and few allies have access to public treasury. Under democracy, corruption is democratised, every level of government is corrupt, highly corrupt. On the federal level, every minister, DG, head of parastatal has his/her hands on the public purse. Its a competition of who can steal the most. On state level, the state treasury is at the mercy of the Governor and his Godfather - no checks and balance whatsoever. The local governments are just national cake distribution points.

So we should go back to millitary rule?

There was an election, and yes, two sides played each other, and one side lost.

At the end, if you want a better democracy, you do what was done in many of the nicer looking democracies and work within the system to make it better.

Yes, US, UK and many of them old democracies were once as bad as Nigeria, even worse. Voter intimidation, votter suppression, etc...even rotten boroughs (UK invention, our corrupt politicans won't stoop that low, and it was there for decades in the UK).

It takes time to build a perfect system.

Right now, our system is awful, but it won;t have suddenly become perfect if PDP or LP or NNPP won. It did not become perfect when Buhari won or when Tinubu won. But replacing it with army rule because of our anger with corruption...well we know how it went the first two times.

And yes, I am no Tinubu, Obi or Atiku fan. But as I told one anti-Gej chap back in 2014, we ain;t going back to military's rule. Oppositon lost because they failed Nigerians by splitting into four parties.

If Nzeogwu had even been sensible enough to resign in 1965 and enter politics, maybe we would have a good and mature political system by now.
