Asabawood actors are doing well,I love the way Igbos took movie out of lagos because of too much disturbance from agberos.Asaba is calm and peaceful.The state government even build a film village.Non of the recent winners can lead the noble actors guild of nigeria.

Asabawood is one major segment of Africa Magic that generates enough money for the company. So it's not totally fair to ignore them when it comes to awards

It's quite unfair. The sole called Asabahood has more talent and will in time dominate that award soon. Thanks to Governor Okowa for encouraging them by building the Asaba film village.

Those are the people shooting movies good enough to be in our cinemas or any of the 2 major streaming platforms in Nigeria (Netflix & Prime Video). All those Nollywood movies where stories are being recycled are stale and outdated. Same stories that Ramsey and Genevive played some 2 decades ago are what majority of them are still doing in 2023. Where is the originality? Check the movies that were nominated.. Not the usual home videos.

AMVCA is not popular. It more of a Lagos social media personalities' award

Unfortunately, none of those in the so called AMVCA is a true nollywood personality. Most of them are social media influenzers doing skits, short videos and African magic movies and soaps as part time. Some are merely hustling ex-multichoice housemates being promoted by the company. They easily mobilise their social media fans to support them.
Did you notice any difference when Nkem owoh and patience ozokwo came to speak? Those are the real nollywood personalities.

Until I start seeing regular faces I see in ROK1 and 2, and African magic channels, then the award remains unimportant.

The asabawood and the yoruba actors and actresses are the most viewed and popular seen as Nollywood. You see those ones using expensive cameras to make movies that looks like edited skit on tiktok are not Nollywood

It's like that in Hollywood, too. There are only many ways to tell one story. It's just that Nollywood is too lazy to take different directions with one story so they don't come out exactly the same. Nollywood isn't even large, and that's why they keep using the same faces. I can count how many star actors we have. There are only about five directors working in this new Lekki Nollywood, so, they tell same stories over and over.

Somehow, I feel like Africa needs to come together and form one movie industry. Our different film industries aren't large or creative enough

I don't rate anyone still watching Nigerian movies in 2023.

Even Hollywood movies, I have to read their reviews on Imdb, rotten tomatoes, yts.mx etc before I watch them.

Sometimes, I streamline my choice to the companies that produced the movies.

If I don't see Warner brother, 20th Century Fox, Liongate etc I dare not press play on my remote control.

The last time I saw a Nigerian movie was over 10 years ago.
