You went from door to door and started observing people? Ok come and tell us what your direction is in life. Let everyone do whatever they want, at the end of the day the only goal that matters is making money, if you want to copy me pls feel free as long as it works for you. That doesn't make anyone mentally incapable or a child. |

Nazgul:you obviously didn't get the point op is trying to make, its not about business carea or fast moving business, the point there is that most of our adults like to engage in an un-necessory competition in life. |

CuriousCart:I totally agree with you. There is probably a mindset problem somewhere and probably a cultural element. I totally agree that contentment, wishing others well without getting worked up by their success is missing in most people. All kind of evil things can go wrong in such environment, even witchcraft. I have promised myself to flee from such people. This behaviour is very uncommon in many developed worlds, as most people lead quiet life's and mind their own businesses. Hopefully we get things right soon. |

Nigerians, like many Africans, act like children. They are not mature or advanced. They can't think beyond their immediate needs. This is why the whites are like their parents and authority figures. |

[quote author=Nazgul post=123386245]Don't blame them. Nigeria isn't working so once people see any business that gives money, everyone would dive into it and over saturate it. Look at POS... around 2016, you can rent a shop and run POS and make reasonable money. In fact you could live comfortably with POS business. Today, you'll find over 20 POS operators on a single street. So if you're planning on going into it, just be prepared cos whatever you make from it obviously wouldn't be able sustain you. Look at Uber/Bolt. I know someone who is in Canada today courtesy of Uber. He started out as an Uber driver as far back as 2017. Today because there are no jobs, more and more guys (and even ladies) are going into uber. This had made Uber become over saturated . And if their drivers are honest with you, they'll admit that it's not as lucrative as it used to be. Same with provision shop, you can find more than 20 on one street all selling the same thing. How on Earth would they make profit? Is it korokpe or danfo bus...that one is worse, there are some routes you'll ply, when you reach and park, before it reaches your turn to load again, it might take up to an hour because there are lots and lots of other buses ahead of you. In the late 90s and early 2000s, one of the fastest way to make money as someone who wasn't fortunate to attain university education was to do hire purchase. Find someone who would give you a bus, and within a year, you've paid him back and you have the bus all to yourself. Today, bad economy and inflation has made it impossible for these guys to deliver, so even though they're in possession of the vehicle, they would find it very difficult meeting their daily target. It's not that these businesses aren't lucrative, they are but because there are so many competitors, profit becomes very slim. This is why so many of them aren't making it. If the country is working, people wouldn't be eager to do any kind of business, this means that businesses wouldn't be over saturated, so those doing it would easily prosper. You're very insightful. The problem of oversaturation of any work or business is principally because of overpopulation. USA is around 350 million people. Nigeria is speeding to 250 million people. Just one state in US, Texas, is bigger than Nigeria. California also is bigger than Nigeria. Many of our economic woes won't exist if we are say 70 million in population. I know bad leadership is a worse malaise than overpopulation, but Nigeria used to be far better in the late 70s and early 80s when our population was quite less than we are now. |

CuriousCart:Who told you that immature adults is a uniquely Nigerian phenomenon… When Oyibo coined the phrase ”keeping up with the Joneses” did you think Jones is a Naija name?! Not sure if this sort of driveling is a result of (a) boredom, (b) lack of exposure, or (c) simply self-hate. > |

CuriousCart:Your observation is good but not all encompassing! I do not understand how you come about your 80% statistical figure but I think you are exaggerating. Nigerians are innovative dynamic and forward looking people even in the face of obscurities, helplessness and hopelessness yet, we are striving hard to make ends meet. Why do you think almost everyone want to 'japa' to other countries where things work? We have examples of people who travelled to another economy and after few months or years, someone classified as a lazy bone in Nigeria will be making a legitimate money and living his dreamt life. We all have one story or the other close to us. You don't expect too much from the citizens of a country where there are no systems to plug into to thrive...... Not everyone will be a business owner in life. Your line of thought corresponds with Buhari's who called Nigerian youth lazy even when his policies are draining the economy and making life difficult for the citizens. |
