Jonathan was making 100 dollars a barrel and till now cannot tell what he did with the money. Even the road to his village in Otuoke is not paved. Now it’s 30 dollars a barrel.

You guys are so gullible. Jonathan govt left money in excess crude account your current crop of politician depleted. Okonja muted the idea of creating sovereign wealth fund, APC and some group of governors kicked against it and killed it. And who told you oil is sold for $30 dollars? You are so idiotically gullible and it is why apc could easily lied to you and you believe their worst lies. Check Bloomberg,com/energy for current oil price. As I talk to you, it is $71/barrels. Most throughout Buhari's regime it hovered above $60/barrel. Please learn and speak from informed position, stop exposing your foolishness.

I think we’ve all agreed that not allowing Jonathan remove the subsidy completely in 2012 was a big mistake. Now that we’ve all realized the danger of keeping the subsidy regime, is it not better we remove it now for good?
The argument here is why are yorubas tribalizing the issue, victimizing those who resist it. But in 2012 nobody GEj and pdp didn't see it as a tribal thing neither did the pdp supporters victimize a section of the country

Atedo is talking B.S. There was NO functional refinery as of 2012 and GEJ wanted to remove the subsidy. Besides, as part of the negotiations with NLC in 2012, the GEJ government was supposed to construct greenfield refineries but that administration NEVER built any. Only people with short memories or who were little kids as of 2012 would fall for this apology blackmail ramblings.

A whopping $10 billion annually would be saved by the government which can then be channeled towards critical infrastructure and human capital development. Dangote Refinery will begin production in July and that should be able to meet the needs of folks back in Nigeria, and have more for export.

I expected buses and cars powered by CNG to have been launched by now just like Lagos State in partnership with Oando launched electric buses in May 2023 to minimize pressure on transportation in the short to medium-term. In any event, fuel pump price will drop drastically this year with Dangote coming on stream.

You are very stupid. The fact remains that crude oil was at its height in 2012. What did Jonathan do with that money? As at that time with all the looting going on in billions, subsidy was the only relief for the common man. Starting from his Government did people have mind to steal in billions till today.

Atedo is a clown, nobody will apologise to any failures. GEJ removed subsidy partially and fuel price went up from 65 to 97 naira. stop making it sound like GEJ did not remove subsidy at all.

Jonathan removed the subsidy partially? Do you remove something and still have it remained? Jonathan reduced money being paid on subsidy but the subsidy remained and kept compounding. As the price changed and went upward, the subsidy moved on upward trajectory and the country continued to accumulate debts. If subsidy has been removed, the prices of pms would have continued to change in response to oil prices and sociopolitical crisis affecting the world energy sector.

Yes of course. Oh u didn’t know? Kyari explained this on TV all week. Only difference will be the freight shipping cost dt would be removed. And dt difference is not so significant to make a major difference.

They asked him so what’s the benefit of refinery in Nigeria, he explained that availability of stock is guaranteed, as sometimes scarcity occurs due to circumstances beyond their control. Also companies don’t need to secure forex, demand for forex would be less than half which would improve the economy.
I do not think Kyari is the best person to explain whether fuel gotten from local refineries will be higher or lower!
The reason for his explanation that the price wont change is because the crude oil is bought at international price hence price decrease will depend on the fall of the crude!
This leads me to this question...Why should crude oil that is a raw material that emanates from Nigeria be sold at international price and currency to local refineries instead of being sold in naira?

Nigeria is full of corruption. Subsidy is a scam and corrupt practice but it is the only corruption that the common man benefits from. Every other form of corruption is benefited by politicians and those in high places.
Let's watch what happens in the next one or two years then we will know whether the decision was to benefit the common man or not but sincerely you can't keep minimum wage at 30k and expect those at that level to survive this exonomy

What is the difference between the two administrations? Na de same people .what happened in 2012 was that we deferred the evil day,so they can do well to apologize that they didn't understand it better then cos of politics.

The part in bold is wrong. Very wrong. Government is not paying subsidy because we import petrol. Government pay subsidy because Nigerians don’t want to buy petrol at market determined price. We want to buy petrol at a price regulated below the cost of production and profit margin of petrol importers and refiners. Let’s understand this and not confuse each other, please.
