The one of Dangote is a fact.
I have been drumming it to the hears of people even last year when this Dangote refinery issue came up.
I posted in this forum on various threads that no one should expect Dangote to sell fuel at ₦185.I was even generous then when I opined that fuel from Dangote would sell at nothing less than ₦300-₦400.
Even in areas where Dangote has a bit of co-player,cement,he has muscled other minor players to be fixing prices at higher rates because the other players can meet only 10-20% of demand while he controls at least 70%.
Now imagine fuel,an essential product where he would be the only player since sourcing dollar at market rate to import fuel would be more like economic bankruptcy!Added to the fact he has massive debts to pay,in foreign currency!!
₦1000 or even ₦1200 by December is highly possible.

That doesnt make sense. How exactly does having the dominant share of demand help you force others to sell higher? If anything, smaller companies try to undercut bigger ones as a competitive strategy. Kindly explain your theory

boss, those refineries will never work, the only time they will start working is if they are sold out to Dangote or other top government officials. those refineries are like atm machines for politicians. tinubu is on another turf entirely and totally different from the Lagos turf, now he is faced with the real devils worrying Nigeria and they are very very powerful, their interest is at the cross with the interest of the masses

What baffles me most in Nigeria is that a lot of us are too sentimental to actually reason well. If not, how we do not see that our refineries are not working because of this organized crime call subsidy.
The fact remains that, if different aspects of our economy is to develop, going forward this is a step in the right direction.
Believe me, with subsidy gone, watch and see our refineries working in no time.

They would increase minimum wage after PBAT receives the report from his team and does his audit on the best minimum wage.

Which licences did they give out?
Or u think it's only dangote that has money?

By the way, u think he uses his money to build his business?

Don't u know banks are the ones that fund his projects?

As urself are there no mega billionaires in Nigeria that can get loans frm banks to build refineries?

U think even peter obi cannot build one?
Or atiku?
Or some state governors?

Why is it only Dangote? Ask urself that question first.

At least 28 licenses for private refineries were (or have been) granted going back to the OBJ administration…
This includes BUA, Orient, Waltersmith, etc. And is apart from the promised “4 Greenfield Refineries” by NNPC.

Dangote is not the only Nigerian with money…
But remains one of the few who invests in MANUFACTURING (in infrastructure-poor Nigeria), rather than trading.

All of the world’s biggest corporations/businesses take loans (or other debt capital)…
Nonetheless, loans are not given out for free, and with this refinery Dangote Group provided HALF of the funding.

Peculiar thing about Nigeria is the penchant to denigrate success (while often celebrating failures)…
If Dangote was a trader investing only in his own village or state (instead of across Nigeria/Africa), he’ll be venerated.

bros calm down, the man is not against fuel subsidy removal, from Nigeria to America to China and even South Africa EVERYONE AGREES THAT THE NIGERIA FUEL SUBSIDY PAYMENTS MUST GO, but what he is saying is that a) there are no measures in place for anything to cushion the effect, b) GOVt didn't consult, and that is one thing many people have agreed to be a wrong move, c) that for competition to be in place, many players and adjustments need to be made
THE NLC CHAIRMAN IS NOT AGAINST SUBSIDY PAYMENT REMOVAL JUDGING FROM THAT INTERVIEW

This IMO state guy is just being partisan. Everyone knows BUA will also finish his refinery next year.

So why not wait for BUA and other refineries to come up and then visit the subsidy issue? Why not put in place the palliative measures before removing subsidy?

What are the other options this country has?

- Combat smuggling and our porous borders.
- Fight corruption.
- Cut the cost of governance.
- Give tax incentives like zero tax/duties for food importation to help lower food prices.
- Do everything humanly possible to secure the North so that farmers can return to their farms by facing and eliminating the terrorists in the North that have chased locals from their homes and farms.
- Combat the issue of multiple road taxes and bribes food transporters face on the road to reduce cost of food transportation.
- Ensure transparency and accountability.
- Expedite the renovation of the local refineries.
- Encourage the set up of more modular refineries nationwide etc

Government can’t run any business. All their refineries keep swallowing money & is useless.

- Why can't government concession out the refineries to qualified private companies to renovate and manage?

Subsidy is a pit that also swallows money wt no benefit for expansion. Subsidy is gone. The goal is increasing states revenue generation and providing a living minimum wage.

ALL governments including the US, China and Russia give subsidies to ensure gas prices and food prices in their countries remain affordable in addition to establishing robust social welfare programmes. So my brother subsidy is not the problem but corruption in the subsidy process and this is what should be addressed head on.

Let's stop being political about this. Already 133 million Nigerians are living below the poverty line and you want to increase fuel price by 300%? How will the common man cope?

nigerias cant afford subsidy....thats just facts....
nigerians should be ready to pay international price for fuel....
because right now, nigeria doesnt produce refine enough for entire nigeria....

una are complainin....what about neighborin countries that cant produce enough too....
Most of you lack common sense.

Every country in the world subsidize certain things for their citizens to live a great quality life. National money or wealth is not meant for the luxury of the political leaders but for the wellbeing of the entire citizens of a country, same does not apply to Nigeria and the dumb citizens support their oppressors parading themselves as political leaders all because they come from their tribe or religion.

Let me educate you, if petrol subsidy have outlived its usefulness in Nigeria and Nigerians have collectively agreed to let it go, then the government must start a wide consultation and carry out honest feasibility studies on how to gradually phase out the subsidy regime within a stipulated timeframe to ensure the impact doesn't weigh the citizens down.

You don't just wake up and remove petrol subsidy without rolling out real palliatives and creating environment that will absorb most of the hardship that will come with subsidy removal.

First, increase worker's minimum wage. The minimum wage in the US is around $2,000 or so and petrol is sold at 350 naira per liter in the US, but minimum wage in Nigeria is around $65 and petrol now sells at 550 to 650 naira in Nigeria and you are here blabbing that Nigerians should buy petrol at international price when they don't earn at international wage.

Before you remove subsidy on petrol, map out say a 6month phasing out process. Before then, add lanes for bicycles in key Nigerian city roads, buy bicycles, electric powered scooters and sell to Nigerians at subsidized price of say 60%. Make it available through LGAs, CDAs, Churches, Mosques, Private Organizations, Community leaders/Chiefs, etc.

Work on power supply and ensure major cities are getting at least 12hrs electricity supply in a day to reduce household and business consumption of petrol.

Roll out buses, coasters, etc to ferry Nigerian workers and market people at subsidized fare.

Invest hugely on solar energy, inverters, etc and push to rural areas and farm settlements.

Issue refinery licensed to more industrialists and give them timeframe they must start operation or it will be withdrawn.

Issue petrol import license to more importers to bring in petrol at competitive price pending when local refineries start full production.

And then you can remove 50% first phase and observe the impact for 2 months then 70% for another 2 months and 100% the next 2 months and in 6 months you have completely removed the petrol subsidy with less negative impact on the citizens and the economy
