benqo01:Do you know how many people China has to kill extra judicially to ensure things are working? They also have a mini dictatorship which ensures continuity. Human nature is greed especially in government when the proper processes are not in place to check such excesses. Government should only deal with administration and not industry. Government job attracts the laziest thieves in society, so give them chance to treasury and they rob everybody blind. 3 Likes |

Dotherightthing: Can the government match the 300% pay rise with the way fuel prices was increased by 300% ? We all know and subsidy to be removed not without a plan on how to reduce the suffering of the masses. And do you think the $10B they claim to pay for subsidy would actually be used for infrastructural development or it will still finds it way back into the pockets of the politicians, don't easily get decieved by them except you are also a beneficiary |

Then what are the alternatives? Get your refineries to work Get the modular arrangements working Derisk downstream operations to allow more importers Investigate the subsidy regime Promote alternative energy that is cost effective and durable Alternative energy should not be for only the rich |

kazyhm: Let him continue to wallow in his ignorance. OPEC DOES NOT regulate any price. They only try to influence. There are so many players in the energy market that don't belong to OPEC. If you think subsidy removal will make Nigeria better then you are on your own. The real questions should be how did the cost of subsidizing petrol for almost 16years of pdp suddenly become something we pay yearly to keep subsidies on. Nobody should be quoting international prices of energy without comparing the general cost of living, earnings and standard of living. Let them subsidize Nigerians abeg, let them arrest and prosecute those behind the subsidy scam. Why would over 200million people pay the price for the crimes of less than 50,000 people. If Nigeria is so broke then let them start with themselves, why will less than 1million people get to enjoy about 25% of the statutory allocations legally and still have access to steal up to 50%. No stupid increase in wage too. Are you all not tired of this persistent rate of inflation. If you think the government of Nigeria would give you a minimum wage that will buy a bag of rice you are on your own. The moment they increase the minimum wage the cost of every commodity will react to counter the benefits. Why do you think despite the increase in wage people are still poor all over the world. That's because it's the SYSTEM. Capital punishment should be meted out to public officers who are found guilty of corruption. Why do ignorant people think competition would drive prices of petrol down and make it cheaper. Haven't you heard of price rings? How much is a litre of LPG, Diesel, kerosene? E Don come down? Why is competition not driving the prices down. It is the duty of government to regulate prices, there is no market that cannot be manipulated forget all these demand and supply theory, there is a reason why there are abnormal demand and supply curves. All they need do is create a disruption In The normal flow of things and blame it on an event. How many times will they remove the so called subsidy self. Don't be surprised that after some months or years you will begin to hear subsidies again. 1 Like |

Dotherightthing:How you reason!! Money for general and massive pay raise and money for subsidy, which one is more expensive? Remove subsidy, but before then fix the refineries. Dangote could build refinery but an entire government couldn't fix their already built refinery, but went and bought shares in Dangote's refinery and even lent him money to build it. Don't you have brain in your head to reason? They're setting the entire nation up for a fleecing because they and Dangote are the owners of the refinery Dangote built. You arrange monopoly for Dangote and deliberately killed public refineries. |

LegendHero: Do you know what is monopoly Are you aware that Dangote cement controls 65% of the market share, while BUA, Lafarge, Unicem etc struggles with 35% When a single product is controling more than 25% of the market, that product have monopolize the market So Ajero is right |

Dotherightthing:See your mouth like pay rise as if the govt will ba able to increase salary as much as they did to petrolpump price. Are you in this country at all? How many state governors are still complaining of the payment of minimum wage after many years? I said fuel pump price will get to N1000/ltr, one guy here was telling me Nonsense about price mechanism. I just laughed. How can a reason govt announce the removal of fuel subsidy without making necessary plans for palliatives and consultation with relevant bodies? The president made very terrible mistai |

jmoore:Saudi Aramco is government owned and it's the most profitable venture in recent history. Rosneft (Russia), National Iranian oil company, China national petroleum corporation and Kuwait petroleum corporation are all owned and profitably run by governments. And that's not even the end of the list. As a matter of fact, governments are in the best position to run businesses as they have access to relatively unlimited resources, the full instrumentality of the law and a near zero risk factor. We just keep making excuses for our government's ineptitude when we say they can't run businesses. They mess up then pass the brunt onto the ordinary citizen to bear. 1 Like 1 Share |

If Peter Obi was that any special, why didn't Anambra experience that transformation? This is one question Peter Obi himself has never answered. Who told you guys that goverment doesnt have a hand in business?Where do all the taxes and levies go to?Is that not business? The reason why fuel importation is high is because of demurrage, and various charges impose be the foreign country where the crude oil are refined, various taxes imposed by the nigerian government and kickbacks that officials of goverment extort from oil marketers that make the price go up. |

kingsways: There can’t be only one supplier, FGN isn’t gonna ban importation of petrol. My only grouse with the FG is why aren’t the 3 FG owned refineries working? Why should we wait for Dangote refinery to guarantee supply? These problems keep pegging us backwards. I understand that hat the new FG has to be steadfast if it wants to end this subsidy menace BUT it has to fix the problems I highlighted. |

LegendHero: Dude he is right, very right. Monopoly or cartel destroy business eliminating competition. The cement industry is like a cartel, they few guys decide the price and fix it at that. Cement in Nigeria is the most expensive than in other African countries. If cement can be imported like every other commodities, cement won’t be above 1k market price. Go write this down, Dangote as a private business being the only one refining fuel is destructive to business |
