My Ogas, which App do you use for buy stocks? I am a newbie and I want to start investing.

I am also interested in being directed to resources I can read or listen to that will improve my economy and investment knowledge.

Thank you.

The majority of Stockbrokers have mobile Apps.

Is anyone having issues with meritrade both web and app. Their service for the past 2 to 3 months has been horrible. I can't do anything on it except to view portfolio. Anyone having issues with them??

I appreciate your view, Oga Emma, and I fully acknowledge the importance of understanding the underlying business of a stock. However, I believe it's also essential to appreciate the different strategies that people use to generate profits in the stock market.

In my experience, proficient traders can realise substantial profits even from "dead stocks." without necessarily delving into the business intricacies behind each stock. Their focus, instead, is often on price, volume, and market sentiment. Now, where Fundamental Analysis shines is in helping establish the intrinsic value of a stock, which can help maximise returns in the long term.

I will not say much on Unity Bank, but as a trader, I see opportunity if price can dip a bit.

I have lost patience with Meristem. Their poor services is disgusting and added to that their high Transaction charges.

Few years ago, a company called Afroil that should be valued at N50 million was valued N1 billion by the market when the share price moved from 50k to about N10.

That was a company that owed rent of 400k per annum for 3 years.

When insiders who craved control start selling their shares, believing they could make more money trading their company's shares than managing the company, you should know that is the height of monkey hunting.

Insiders sold their shares made more than N600 million from a business that could barely make a profit after tax of N4 million and moved on.

People who thought they were smart lost more than 90% of their Investment and have an illiquid stock that could not make profits for the past 16 years

As an Investor, I still cannot bring myself to have a full grasp of the Nigerian stock market. For this I give maximum respect to the players in this market. For now I stick to my trusted Europe/UK/US stock market, and keep learning from players here to see if the potential here equates to those in the west

Naija stock is also sweet though US can give maximum return than Naija stock but if you know how to play the game well u will make fortune too on NSE. Presently no FPIs in Nigeria and am not sure they are ready to come for now. U see that full bid and offer up and down na game those volumes those guys bought lower they will gradually dump it till they are done then repeat the same process again.

Thanks boss.
Oga Emma is a long term investor, so he chooses his portfolio items carefully......so it's understandable.....but he also needs to consider others who are day/swing traders while making his assertions. grin

That's one of the reasons I don't want to mention it initially when it started the movement from circa 44k or so.

Any banking stock below N1 is dirt cheap (in his voice) in my opinion.

If stocks with no result could be delivering over +100%, I wonder what we'll say about an established and active banking stock. Selling below N1.
How many cent is that?

Besides, JAIZ and UNITY used to be in same league and move together. If JAIZ is approaching N2 now, I don't see UNITY still sitting or sleeping below N1.

With the new regime, banks are in for a good time.....at least so far that we've seen.

** Pls Note that I am not marketing UNITY. Mr. Market will take care of it as it's been doing since it started @44k. DD as always**

It is possible for a N10 stock to be cheaper than a N1 stock.

It is also possible for a bank with a negative shareholders fund, that could not pay dividends for 5 years , selling at less than N1 to have its banking license withdrawn and investors will lose money or serious erosion of capital.

That is why it is important for newbies to have background knowledge of some of these businesses before they commit funds into them

...Oga Emma, the same Afroil that I bought at 80k and sold at N1.6(something), just looking at newspaper reports at that time! I know the angle you look at it. I can assure you that those that bought at the peak are neither traders nor investors. These are the people that listened to "noise" and pushed by greed.

An experienced trader would identify such a situation as "overbought," and hence anticipate a downward correction, while a savvy investor might question the actual value of the stock at such a heightened price!

I should emphasise that I'm not advocating trading for newcomers, but merely to clear some of the unspoken negative sentiments about trading that seem to be infiltrating this platform.

It has been terrible for months. I am actively looking for another brokerage. I am okay keeping them for what I currently have, but not for future transactions. The "live" market data is not functioning.
otokx:

If I understand your approach correctly, it is stressful because you would need to pretend like you're about to buy/sell to see active bids/offers and other information. It is sad that they have not for once come out to announce an ongoing solution or ever even acknowledged that they know their clients are going through this headache.
