Holding certain stocks that one likes can affect one's rational thinking, especially when one receives regular dividends from them.

For example, I bought 85,000 units of Zenith Bank at 22 naira and held onto them for a while, and the price went up to 30 naira. With a system to detect when a stock is overbought or ripe for a correction, the smart thing to do would be to sell and buy back later after the correction. Just selling at 30 naira and buying back at 27 naira, would have increased the holding from 85,000 units to 92,500 units without adding any new money.

Someone like me, who has developed cavities from the sweetness of dividends, would be happy to receive even more dividends in return. shocked cheesy

The point is that holding a stock indefinitely may not be the best strategy, especially if one can spot a correction coming.

grin grin grin

But the dividend yield is reduced. Unless the company increases their dividend, na broker gain for this scenario. Even the increase in dividend would have to be significant otherwise you will probably earn the same as before or less.

This strategy is like a trap, you can find yourself locked out. There are a number of times I have tempted to sell my Zenith shares but the fear of being locked out has always hampered me.

If the price falls, i will borrow against my shares to increase my holdings if i still believe in the stock and use my cash flow or capital appreciation if it happens to service and liquidate the loan

Why are dividends reduced? Dividends are paid per share, so if you increase the number of shares you own, you will automatically receive more dividends. Just think about it.

We should also sometimes be generous and allow others to eat. If we are eating very well, there is no need to be concerned about others eating from our labor.

There is no trap. Check the Zenith Bank chart and see for yourself that it has gone high and fallen quite hard multiple times over the course of a few years. There are also stocks that have continued to move up without falling considerably, like UCAP.

So, you have to have a good understanding of stocks, timing and their usual behavior.

Hello,

Please what's your take as regards Afripud
@seunfash16, from the technical point of view, Afripud is outlook is good with a HIGH Risk:Reward. There are sellers above 7 and the stock already making a "Head-n-Shoulders" pattern. The pattern may fail with the ongoing bullish sentiments on NSE. You'll need to calc your risk. Also, check the FA data if it's ok.

lol! My brother, everyone is learning everyday.

However, from the chart, you can deduce that:
-Sterling stock price is in a range market
-Recently (from 2017), price is moving strongly high
-Price touched the high @3.20 last week, before briefly coming down

Interpretation
-Sterling is good to buy with High Risk/Reward
-If price falls to 2.70 (or below), the better for good buy
-Based on previous rejection (fall) at 3.20, the stock price may not go above it
-Recent NSE bullish sentiments can cause Sterling Bank stock price to go above the 3.20
-IF the price closed above 3.20 by end of June ( cheesy); it may continue to go higher (but not on straight line, you will have rise & fall in price)

That's is the best way I could possibly explain the chart for your understanding, but if you need further clarifications, feel free to let me know

You are too much and correct. It will go back to #5. As long as the right thing is being done by this government. And if possible by another government after the court case. The market is going north. Thr will be no generational low unless the world or naija goes into war.
Nevertheless, we are all entitled to our opinion. The opinion should be devoid of scam or personal target.

I am going back to market because I seeing green flag from this government. They are reducing the corruption they have been sharing. Two major are gone, fuel subsidy and forex policy

You are VERY correct too index heading to 95k

UBA used to give much better interim among the fu.ga.z (in terms of price/volume comparison anyway) let's hope this year would be better as well.
