I have a contrarian view here. There's nothing wrong in a President Tinubu bringing everybody onboard [including those who fought an unjust system back in the day that has now led to the destruction of the Niger Delta environment and the economic emasculation of the local people by the oil majors].

Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, and the rest of the ANC, etc, were all militant freedom fighters against the insidious political system called apartheid and got hounded. Mandela came out of prison and became the first post-apartheid South African President back in the early 1990s.

The great Ogoni activists Ken Saro-Wiwa, Ledum Mitee, right up to the rise of the Ijaw, Bonny-born Asari Dokubo, and more, all became militant because of the environmental destruction of the Niger Delta lands and waters by the oil majors since the days of brutal military rule that some of us witnessed.

Besides, former President Yar' Adua gave amnesty to all the Niger Delta militants in order to bring peace, so NO need to demonize Asari Dokubo here. If he commits a serious crime from here on out, then he or anyone would have to face justice in the court of law.

I saw that video that was posted here on NL of some of Asari Dokubo's close lieutenants carrying assault weapons like you said, and further investigations show that the video is relatively old. But then, the legit security folks have to keep a steady surveillance of the movement of these weapons so they are not used to further fuel violence.

If you remember full well, Asari Dokubo was one of those who got pipeline security contracts under former President Jonathan's government towards the end of that administration (along with Tompolo, Ralph Uwazurike of Massob and the Dr. Frederick Faseun faction of OPC) in order to get more electoral votes.

These crude oil pipeline security contracts made these men to become instant Naira billionaires and it enabled Asari to even build a Uni in Benin Republic. If you observe, even the Ibo-secessionist Massob leader called Ralph Uwazurike has reduced his secessionist agitations for years now, and it is his former boys like Kanu who was grabbed by Nigerian Intel from Kenya that are still barking up a tree... Lol...

So, I'm not surprised that Asari's bodyguards wielded assault weapons because of those pipeline contracts (and they could even have been the leftovers of the weapons that should have been surrendered during the amnesty program started by former President Yar' Adua).
